They all did their bit and some who were down were back on track, but I want to give kudos especially to Treloar, Richards, Keath, English & Jamarra. Arfa had a great debut - he's gonna be a gun. Bont his usual brilliant self. What the hell do we do when Libba goes? Great to see Macrae, Naughts & JJ back to their good selves. Apologies to everyone else. I thought the Lobster, Oscar & L Jones were handy.

I guess I'm just happy we won :)

You can tell it’s genuine too, Marra looks like he’s 100% ingrained in the fabric of our club right now and will be here for the next 10 years. Far cry from 2 years ago when people were worried about him shipping off to Essendon at the earliest convenience, he’s a bulldog through and through and you can see how much it means to him
That talk was always little silly. You only need to see how glowingly he speaks of the closeness that the playing group has. Thats without taking into consideration how close he is to the cornerstone of this team The Bont. They have a genuine and lifelong feeling of brotherhood between them. Its very much like the one between Treloar and Dunkley but without the ever present homoerotic undertones that those two seem to exhibit.

A very good, very mature and very much needed response.

Just thrilled for Jamarra. He is a very special player and person to have at our club.

I also loved Arty Jones - a great debut. Well done mate.

Obviously Bont was fantastic, vintage game from him tonight. Can’t believe people were questioning his leadership. The man is a god.

Treloar, Richards, Bruce, L. Jones, Macrae, Liberatore, Keath (where’d he pull that game from!), Baker, Daniel - all excellent.

Also thought JJ (played down back) was decent - he belongs down back. He had one - or maybe two? - poor kicks, but he was solid enough. Given also he was on Charlie Cameron - who has killed us in the past - he did a brilliant job on him I thought.

A much improved effort from Bailey Smith too

Also think I saw someone criticise Lobb - disagreed. He wasn’t dominant or anything, but competed well and provided some good contests.

In a post where I’ve highlighted several
positives, I’ll balance it with one negative…Garcia, geez. I really like him, but he will want to forget that last quarter in a hurry. Two 50m penalties, a free kick and a fumble I counted.

Just a comment on Brisbane - Harris Andrews is an absolute superstar. I know he was assisted at times by our delivery, but still, what a gun.

Anyway, now that we’ve got the much needed win and shown what we are capable of, can we please show that intensity every week please!!

Go dogs.

I want to put in a word in Riley Garcia's defence.

I know he stuffed up with a couple of those 50m penalties (I think there were 3 in all) but before the game we were saying we wanted somebody who had a bit of err ... meanness in him (the Anglo-Saxon word that was posted was a bit more blunt). Just somebody give us anything but the pusillanimous efforts of the first two rounds. There were also people saying they didn't care what else happened as long as somebody flattened Dunkley.

Let's not go back to having 22 gentlemen footballers just because we took the four points this week. The spirit that we saw tonight was a blend of what all 22 brought. Garcia's aggression was an important part of that. Unlike St Kilda last week, Brisbane knew that if they took possession they were going to be tackled, bumped, hit or scragged. And just like us last week it affected their disposal which always had to be rushed. By contrast last week against us St Kilda had a training drill from one arc to the other.

Garcia has played just over 20 games and he clearly needs to learn how to stay just the right side of the umpire like a lot of hard men in the past learned to do. It'll come. Hopefully so will a bit more composure over the ball.

He stays in the side, for mine.

You can't erase what happened in Rounds 1 and 2. Totally unacceptable. The anger and questioning were quite in order ... if anything a little overdue.

Or is Bevo not responsible for those two performances ... yet still deserving of praise for guiding us to a win this week?

I applaud him for getting the team back up this week (it would have been curtains if he hadn't) but I'm certainly not back on the Bevo wagon yet.

Let's just see how the season plays out.
I’m talking about comments to the effect he should be sacked or questioning his re-signing.

Fair to criticise the performances. The last two weeks have no bearing on whether the decision to re-sign him was the right one, just as if we win next week the decision isn’t immediately vindicated.

We struggle against Richmond, especially at the G. But I feel like they're beatable atm, wasn't a fantastic game round 1 against carlton, nearly choked against the Crom last week

Maybe, or maybe, just maybe, the shackles are finally off and we just go out there and stick it to them.

Garcia was fine until the implosion at the end. I like him generally.

I doubt much needed to be said to him after.

Ch7 got Arty Jones back after the Bevo/JUH presser to sign off the coverage.

I love Arty, and his energy, and comes across well on tv, but hopefully that's a one-off until he's more established. No need for over-exposure just yet, let your footy do the talking for the next little bit.

Just don't lose that on-field exuberance though!
Love the irrepressible smile on his face.

Well said DW, yeah it was a mare from Garcia but you almost take it in this side right now because that’s the intent we needed. Someone said it well in the game day thread that him and West are a bit the same in that they’re very over eager and trying to find their feet in balancing that line. Im happy to use a spot on a role player like this, but probably can only carry one each week

It's a fair point that it seems a bit silly to talk about moving on a coach on who has never performed worse than 10th, while getting the team into 2 GFs and winning one. It is reminiscent of St Kilda considering moving Ross Lyon on (before he moved them on) when he had never performed worse than 9th and gotten them into 2 GFs. And now look at them getting Ross Lyon back after failing pretty much constantly for the intervening decade.

But I continue to feel like the team is moving into a new phase, and Bevo will not survive the rebuilding that simply has to occur. And the fact that the team needs to be absolutely beaten around the head to bring out genuine effort suggests Bevo's message might be wearing thin. I guess we'll see over the next few months what happens. But the bottom line is if the team makes the finals or probably even 9th or 10th I wouldn't expect Bevo to be sacked this year. The reason I was (and continue to be) confident he will be sacked is cause I suspect we will end up a bit lower than that - even after tonight's creditable performance. But I sure hope I'm wrong!
I think the club sees it quite differently.

Maybe a total supporter revolt might change their thinking, but I think they want stability and don’t judge the coach on individual seasons. It’s the approach Geelong, Sydney and Richmond have adopted.

All three have had coaches longer than Bevo and have had downers and they’ve backed them in as long as they think they’re the right person.

I think it will take something pretty severe for him to get sacked this year or next.

Great measured post as always.

Yes, agree, Garcia will learn over time where to draw the line. Yes, he stuffed up tonight, but through trying to do something, which as you say is what many of us have been crying out for. Not ideal, and could well have cost us the game, but prefer that to some of the timidity and lacklustre efforts last week. Baker doesn't mind a crack either, when there was a bit of a scuffle at one stage. No need to go silly and get suspended, but sticking up for your team-mates, and staying in their face, is not a bad trait, and one we are severely lacking in.

I actually think the 50m penalties were very soft. I don’t actually think he was late on Dunkley but it looked a lot worse than it was. On the knocking the ball away from Andrews he was just holding his arms out to guard the quick handball release and was unlucky he connected with the ball as Andrews was getting up.

Bont and JUH were awesome but let’s not forget LIBBBBBBA!

LIBAAAAA was LIBAAAAA tonight and that player is awesome

He was tough tonight as always LIBAAAAAA

Yes Baker deserves a mention. I was pretty sceptical about him being listed but he's starting to look like he'll have a decent future at the kennel. He brings some spark and aggro. He's also prepared to take the game on so we aren't too stop-start and predictable. He's got a very punchable head so I'm glad he's on our side.

I just wish Williams would play more instinctively like Baker does. Several times he took a mark in space on the wing and had ample room to play on but instead he retreated and let the Brisbane side rushed back to their defensive structure. TBF perhaps he couldn't see a genuine target (it's always hard to tell from the zoomed-in TV coverage) but that sort of conservative play got us nowhere in Rounds 1 & 2.

Final one for me tonight - Watson, Thomas and Gil's brother trying to still say Scott was the driver of the sling tackle. FMD are they blind? They showed it 10 times from every angle in slow motion, Scott WAS NOT trying to spin in a circle as he was being tackled, the tackler created the sling motion and clearly spun Scott around. Then one of them said his whole body hit the ground at the same time, so it was ok. And that the tackler executed the tackle almost perfectly! It's the f***ing intent you moron, not the result. Scott had no control where he landed, and his face still hit the ground without an opportunity to brace himself as one arm was pinned and the other holding onto the ball.

As others have said, Williams seems to have gone into his shell since the 21 GF. I agree, he needs to take the first option on instinct, he is one of the best kicks to position in our team.

People here love complaining about Bevo "not caring about the ruck". English was fumbly and not at his best but clearly played a part with going 12-4 out if a middle. You want to see a team "not care about the ruck"? It's a team having OMac and Fort, both pretty much duds for 1st/2nd ruck, and limiting their midfield. English can have one of his worse all-around games for 2 or 3 years, but still win the ruck. Bevo clearly "cares about the ruck" more than Fagan.

I was at the ground but generally find Hamish unlistenable.
