Being competitive is the trait of an ordinary football team. If they were half decent they’d have beaten us comfortably tonight.

We were shithouse bar periods of that 3rd quarter.
FFS mate we won on the road in the wet

we have one 5 out of 6 now. If we lose the next 6 then you will have plenty of time then to be depressed

Can never understand this need to talk down every single thing we do

As always…

the pressure rating and AFL player ratings really sum up how good A. Jones was

Treloar had no ice on his hammy which is a good sign? Disappointing to let go of the rope in the first 10 minutes but we got freaking hosed by the umps in that 10 minutes.

Much like the Port game it coincided with Bont being on the bench as well, we have to fix this, would rather he starts the 4th in the forward line and works his way back into the middle.

Thought Gardner was very Rusty but tough game and conditions to make your season debut in.
It was Canberra so there was natural ice

Think the melts on Marras game were harsh, wasn’t his best night but when is he ever gonna suit these conditions? I thought he tried really hard, the effort was there which was the main thing. Naughty was arguably worse until his dominant 10 mins, it just was never going to be their night.

Very happy with how hes tracking and I suspect Bev gives him a big tick for his attitude tonight, never stopped trying.

He’s a gem, will be a superstar
Just the usual suspects

Nothing wrong with his ga given the cond

Not all players are great in the wet.So well done to the whole team for perseverance.
Pity the mid season draft isn't this week.
We need another big bodied mid. With Treloar possibly missing.Mclean or Mccomb doesn't fill with much confidence
Might be worth giving Bailey Williams some time in there

If we’re hanging our hat on the fact that Brisbane beat them by 21 pts, then we sound more like Gold Coast supporters than the supporters of a team that should be pushing for a top 4 spot.

Most of our last 4-5 weeks have been great. Bar a poor period against the Hawks last week. Tonight was a couple of steps back from what I watched.

Bank the 4 pts and hope for better performances over the next few weeks. We’ve got a massive opportunity to get a decent ledger between now and a potential finals birth. We need to be playing better than we did tonight though.
We are not hanging our hat on anything other than we are in the 8 and have won 5 from 6. Just enjoy the win and take each week as it come. Every team has beer up and down at different times we just need to bank he wins and move forward

Sam Darcy doesn't have the same core strength that Lobb does right now. He will get there in time but currently he is to easily moved off the ball.
The recruitment of Lobb was astute list management so that young Sam isn't ground into pieces before he is ready. And when Lobb is in decline Sam will be ready to take his spot

I like Buku but if it’s still a case of tank how long we do persist with him?
It’s a good question but I expect they are hoping it improves over time. He can still play as a 3rd forward when the opportunity presents but we can’t have him in the back half not running out games imagine how he would have been last night towards the end

He was clearly tired and frustrated by the questions tonight but grumpy demeanour aside he was more open and thoughtful than he normally is. The concession perked my ears up too - I liked it. I also thought his answer about why we're transitioning the ball better was a nice reflection.
cant understand why anyone would think that someone as intelligent as Bevo would not self reflect. Might not do it publicly and nor should he.
First couple of rounds could simply be players not performing their roles not necessarily some tactic but like all good coaches he accepts public responsibility

Hard to get a gauge on our form with the conditions but the last weeks have been disappointing but a win Is a win.

Bont is leading by example but others need to step up more to share the load. English also continues to cement his first AA. Arty is improving but we need more from Cody. Scott needs to get the ball more and apply pressure. His pressure was very poor last night.

Next week will be interesting, two of the better lists in the AFL but with similar coaching level. Big test for the dogs, if we are a decent team we get the win.
LOL

I think it’s mainly due to his ground ball stuff as he’s a little slow to dispose of the ball and can get caught, which stands out to people. Personally I think he’s having a great season, other than being inaccurate in front of goal which I don’t think will be a long term issue.
He is having a better season than the posters

That said, I do think Tom Green is rising into the elite level of the game and he had a terrific match tonight. He's just 22 and built like the modern prototype (191cm). Much respect for him as a footballer. Could easily win a Brownlow or two before his career's over.
You know D Doublya, being a Canberra resident, you could join the Tom Green fan club and get a free beer when he kicks his first goal. I think they have more members than GWS itself...

You could also be the Dogs man on the inside whilst there and subversively work away at persuading his GF that she really wants to live in Melbourne...Footscray, Melbourne.

Of the up and comer mids on other lists, I'm liking him and Butters from Port (and Maribyrnong College!).

Question for those who have seen the Artful Dodger in the VFL or as a junior:
What do you see as his ceiling? Does he have Eddie Betts tricks or Tom Papley style explosive play?
He looks great to me, but just wondering what else is in his back of tricks apart from pressure, nice hands and nimble feet.

i dont think you can play Keath and gardy in the same side, both have too many calamitous moments

Keath has had some ups and downs recently, but I don't this his spot should be in question, he still brings plenty to the table to balance out his mistakes\weaknesses.

I also struggle to understand how Gardner keeps getting linked with certain players like Keath and before he was pushed out, Cordy, and even less how he often seems to come out on top in such situations. As the late comer with the weaker curriculum vitae, he is the one that should need to work hard to fit in, not others needing to adjust to fit around him.

Last night Ryan was brought into the side because Bruce and O'Brien were both out injured, fine. I'm ok with the selection decision.
I also appreciate that he comes after a layoff, and you can be a bit more forgiving for the long period between senior AFL games, however it should be recognised that he put in another shocker, making repeated defensive mistakes which resulted in opposition goals, and he was lucky that they didn't end up costing us the game.

yeah i agree Gards was pretty good last night for a first up performance, he got a bit ragged in the second half.
Keath probably does enough, but he is just heart in the mouth too often. If he is playing on the third forward then he needs to mark more, and brain fade less. i would play Buku or Cleary instead as theres more upside
