Nice to win, but it would be really nice to follow a team that felt like more than the sum of it's parts. We really haven't since 2016 to me and that absolutely includes 2021. The main thing I've enjoyed about this year has been Arthur Jones, stoked to see him start getting some rewards, and obviously Bont is Bont. I know he got a bit of it but Macrae obviously down on form still, losing Treloar on top of that makes our midfield start to look pretty thin, just have to hope Libba and Bont continue being freaks. This year feels way too much like 2020 football wise.

Would be good if we could play a four quarter game sometime.
I know it's always hard to remember these things but I'd say we played a consistent four quarter game against Fremantle 2 weeks ago after 3 straight away games (2 of which were interstate, 2 of which were absolute slogs). We played a four quarter game against Brisbane in round 3 who are currently one of the premiership favourites.

It's more important to learn new ways to win at this time of the year than it is to play your absolute best.

"All the time"

Why come on here and melt most of the time ... you're allowed to have an opinion but I don't see why the majority of them need to be negative.

There were plenty of positives. It was crap conditions and they clearly tired.

Could probably give the plastics some credit given they did this against Sydney last week but won. At least our team showed a bit of maturity in the end after not a great quarter.

The rest of the game was solid
Pretty solid comments but you need to admit you are a serious “melter” yourself.
The complete obsession with other club boards, and the childish Nick Names and stuff.

Night games in Canberra in May🤦‍♂️ So many of our victories there seem to be pyrrhic ones.
Relatively but not totally unscathed this time around with Treloar's hammy (hopefully a minor one) being the blight.

Meanwhile, Arty Jones. Loving his contribution and energy.

I still think we stitched Jongy up a bit by bringing him back in near freezing conditions in Canberra. He was always going to break down but it's a cursed ground for hammies that joint.

Hearing you, but they also lost to the Eagles. They aren’t a good side.
Horrible game to lose but pretty sure they had Kelly and Whitfield out for that game.

One bad game doesn’t dictate their form. Their form for the previous 7 weeks is a competitive team not good enough to win most weeks but make it a tight tough game.

Ok they are 13th not 15th. Personally I can’t be happy scraping a win against a lowly side with some of their best missing. Hope I’m wrong but we’ll know more of where we sit over the next 3 weeks.

It’s not even the result. The performance was shithouse. Flat foot receivers caught like deers in headlights. We jogged to tackles rather than closing fast. Our positioning around the contest was poor and had numerous fumbled handballs trying to exit due to it.

On top of that our intensity for most of the game was poor.

Compare that performance to any of the teams fighting for the top end spots and we looked like a bottom half of the ladder team.

Let’s be happy with the 4pts but Jeepers, not sure how supporters can be happy with how we went about it.

I still can't get over how good he was at the very start of 2015 before he broke his hand (and played the game out in that epic win against Sydney). Even by that stage of his career he'd had a bad run with injury but it felt like his form was kind of symbolic of the start of the Bevo era.

We are travelling further than the Leylan Brothers this year I swear. Compare our draw to St Kilda. We have played the MCG twice, Adelaide against PA in Gather Round, Perth against Freo, Canberra against GWS, and then will be in NT soon against Gold Coast, and then also Ballarat but that’s our own choice. The Saints have played every single game at Marvel other than Gather Round….. every game! How the F are they able to get that many games at their home ground over the first 8 rounds? Seems completely rigged to be honest. I don’t know how that is a fair competition.

In terms of the game tonight, we shit the bed for about 10 minutes at the start of the last quarter but to be honest the umpiring didn’t help. That was disgraceful. Lost count of how many holding the ball decisions were let go. Head high front on contact on Richards not paid. English just cannoned into from behind, no free, no 50m penalty.

Bont was awesome, Arty fantastic, English great but a bit poor on disposal a few times uncharacteristically, Libba in and under, Naughton just three moments of absolute brilliance, Liam Jones continues his fantastic season down back, thank god he came back to the Dogs.

Tough conditions and a good win. GWS are not a bad team. Let them back into the game but held strong and got the momentum back which we often struggle to do so that was good to see.

Onto next week and hopefully we can smash the Blues.

Jones was huge in the last ten minutes. JJ too.

JUH is an almost player. Will be such a weapon when it clicks for him.

Gardner's second half was better than his first.

No, Gardner's second half was definitely not better than his first.
He may have gotten into the play more but that doesn't mean it was better.

He also made more costly mistakes. His last quarter was a bit of nightmare for him unfortunately. He really needs to learn to play more conservatively as a defender, and that sometimes it is a much better option to not over commit to a contest and prepare to fight the next one.

How many times can one bloke make the same type of mistake over and over again and not adjust his approach?

I dont think it's an accident that our forward line hasn't leaked nearly as badly as it had in the first couple of weeks with the introduction of the Glimmer Twins. Ive been sceptical about Jones' ability for much of his time at the club, but Im happy to eat a bucket of shit and acknowledge how quickly he is is coming on now that he is being exposed to the game at the highest level. I think he still has a way to go when it comes to staying in games for their entirety, but he's definitely on the right track. The match committee deserve kudos for bringing Jones and his enthusiasm into the side when it needed it most even if that was before he deserved a place, but its a risk that is starting to bear fruit.

As for the game itself. It wasn't one to write home about, but given the conditions for much of the night Im happy enough with the result. Once again, when a team came at us, we steadied and then took our chances to put the game out of reach when it mattered. This is new to the team this year and shows that the work they did over the pre-season is starting to pay dividends. We're now a couple of games in the positive and knocking on the door of the eight. Something that seemed rather unlikely after the disorganised and the unbalanced nature of the side in the first two weeks. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Treloars replacement. Im guessing that McNeil will come into the starting side. From there its pretty slim pickings.

I remember that game and thinking that bringing him back first up in sub zero conditions was every chance of not ending well. And so it came to pass....

Not MCs finest hour.

Why does Jamarra get so much criticism on here? He is a 21-year-old, 197cm key forward playing in atrocious conditions for a tall forward and he kept at it all night. He was so far from our worst player that it's embarrassing to read the criticism on here. JUH has plenty of influential moments and works his arse off during the game. I wonder sometimes if I have watched a different game than some of you.

English huge in the last quarter. Bailey Williams has had a great few weeks. Full credit to the coaches for believing in Arty, could have send him back to the VFL but their belief in him has lifted his confidence. 5/3 is ok, big game next week but we are in the mix and after a ****house start, think we have bounced back very well.
The thing is we need a player just like Arty and have needed this sort of pressure forward for quite a while. So he absolutely fills a need that no one else has managed to do. It was great to see him get a little reward for all his efforts because he never stops running and pressuring. I love him and the energy he brings and I’m sure the coach and the rest of the team do also

If we’re hanging our hat on the fact that Brisbane beat them by 21 pts, then we sound more like Gold Coast supporters than the supporters of a team that should be pushing for a top 4 spot.

Most of our last 4-5 weeks have been great. Bar a poor period against the Hawks last week. Tonight was a couple of steps back from what I watched.

Bank the 4 pts and hope for better performances over the next few weeks. We’ve got a massive opportunity to get a decent ledger between now and a potential finals birth. We need to be playing better than we did tonight though.

I don't think it was many Mutt. Most of us agree with you. He just had a bad day - don't we all - and conditions didn't help.
