Reading the supporters of most other clubs in the Brisbane thread band together and whine about us and some vast umpiring conspiracy. It brings a tear of joy to the eye.
The Carlton board was balanced. Talked more about the game and brushed off the umpire rubbish. They think Smith is good but not in Walsh’s class which is fair enough.

English fought, fought, fought in the ruck. Then the crescendo was winning - not losing - that final ruck free kick. Bloke's been criticised for his rucking and his aggression but he battled so hard that 2nd half.
Yeah watch the replay and that free kick was 100% there for English. As you say English suddenly became the more aggressive ruck and Oscar ran in early with eyes on English and not on the ball, leg up and blocked him from getting to the contest.
the Lions got a dodgy free in the last that gave them a goal.
Don’t for one second think the umpiring was biased towards us. I’m speaking to neutral mates that are saying the umpiring was not an issue at all.
The Lions are ****ing whinging babies

Been watching games since the 80’s. Easily top 2 game I’ve seen, along with the 16 prelim.
My heart was visibly beating through my jumper during the last couple of minutes.

Can we go again next week? We looked bloody cooked at final siren, but we never know with this club. Been a hell of a ride this season!!

Go Dogs!!❤️❤️❤️

I actually posted during the game thread that he didn’t look right mentally. Definitely something was getting to him because he had no spark whatsoever and was struggling to get to the ball which is just totally unlike him. Hopefully he is his usual self for the Prelim in Adelaide because we will really need him.
Assume his wife and kid were up in Brisbane so must have been a tough couple of days if he couldn’t see them. Certainly a weird vibe the whole game.

What the hell is with every opposition supporter bandying together to try and claim some umpiring conspiracy against the Bulldogs? Salty pricks.
It’s explained in attribution theory and things like locus of control.

Culturally, we are not perceived to be winners. The long term narrative of our Club externally still swirls around informed by the stigma of the working class, western suburbs and all that. Folks believe, truely believe that all those factors are a reflection on something wrong, or bad about us. It can’t possibly be external factors. You reap what you sow etc.

The opposite also occurs. That they don’t “suffer” the same, is because of their actions. They are winners by virtue of their inherent qualities, who they are. If they were to lose, it couldn’t possibly be anything other than a confounding, external factor.

There are a lot of folks struggling with the fact a team they have been groomed to look down on are just flat out better than them.

instead of wasting time and energy fretting, these pissants should just get on the ****ing knees and bow down to the Dishlickers. Enjoy the new status quo bitches.

Im not a fan of Hannan but I have to say his attack and clean possession of the ball in the crucial contest to handball to smith was first class
That contest and then look-away handball to Smith for his last goal was insane by Hannah. Well done son, well done indeed. It was a little glimpse of magic sandwiched in all the hard work!

I actually remember that game that he is quoting very very well. I was a Fitzroy supporter at the time and have never been as angry at a loss as I was that night. This doesn’t come close to that. Sure a couple of frees went our way and the one to English at the end was probably the one I thought was the most dodgy/weak. But I can think of a tonne going the other way that also weren’t great decisions and the overturn of Bont’s goal was one of the worst decisions by the score reviewer I can ever think of. There was no vision at all that was conclusive that it was touched. He basically made that decision because the Brisbane player was so sure he touched it that the reviewer believed him. The ball didn’t deviate at all. That was absolute bullshit.

To even try to compare this to the game Fitzroy were robbed of against Adelaide is laughable.

My father who is a massive Lions fan even called me afterwards to congratulate me on the Dogs win and said he thought the game was umpired fairly with a few going both ways that probably were a bit iffy but overall the Dogs deserved the win and while the Lions had their chances, the Dogs defence was too strong and in the end we took our chances better than they did. This coming from one of the most one eyed Brisbane supporters you could ever meet. So no this game was not robbed by the umpires. It was a fu*king arm wrestle that we just managed to win. Great game by both teams. No one deserved to lose but to blame the umpires is bullsh*t.

The McCarthy free kick in the first gifted them a goal. Gards did not even touch him, perfect spoil.

Caleb deliberate was a joke.

VDM ridden into the ground when kicking the point - free kick warranted, milks 30 seconds (assuming the timekeeper starts the clock again....) game over.

Yes - blocking free in the ruck was soft, but it was there.

Plenty of times the whistle was put away in the last qtr - especially in our forward 50

All this rubbish about our frees is simply dumb.we are hard, disciplined, first to the ball and our tackling and spoiling technique is sound. No coincidence we win the contested ball and free kick count.

We 100% had the rub of the green with a few holding the ball calls/non decisions.

It happens though.

Off to the prelim.

I thought it was funny at first, came from jealousy. But it’s getting beyond a joke now. It’s degenerated into Bulldogs Derangement Syndrome, with certain posters or certain clubs.

Of course they are only going to be spurred on by this sort of thing, even though 2 of the 3 examples were actually on our side -

And in another report

“Essendon supporters were irate at a number of umpiring howlers in the sudden-death final against the Bulldogs in Launceston last week. The Gabba faithful were revolting on Saturday when the Dogs received 10 free kicks to Brisbane’s four in the second term. Some were there – despite the passionate protests of some Brisbane supporters – but a few were very soft calls against the Lions. In short, they had a shocker. None of the officials at the Gabba should figure in the preliminary finals.”

It’s becoming a plague, all these bad umpires are following us around and we’re getting the blame.

Opposition supporters still flooding to the lions board to offer condolences in what there saying is daylight robbery from umpires lol
They’ll all be on the Port board next week 😂

What I don't understand is that surely the more it happens every week, the less likely is it to be some sustained conspiracy over several years, and more a reflection of our style of play. We're at the top of the contested possession differential ladder, with a tactical style to get numbers at the contest rather than on the spread around the ground, of course we're going to get more frees, much in the same way that Richmond's late physical pressure and standoff style at stoppages also has them consistently at the bottom of the free kick ladder, which also isn't some sort of conspiracy.

Possibly part of the reason for the complaints is that fans have internalised interstate teams getting umpiring advantage so much that when the other team gets a slight advantage - on the balance of probabilities - they can't fathom it, and they agree with booing crowds.

Comfortably a pass mark, winning a final interstate with Covid protocols is an amazing effort.

Next week is a free hit, but equally an enormous opportunity. Bring it on.
Yeah it’s a bit like 2016 in that most of us were so stumped we’d made it to a prelim that we were thrilled either way, but as we learned then, sometimes you only really get one shot.

We look spent so I don’t have massive hopes, but if we get over Port we’ve got a massive chance given the week off and playing on neutral turf.
