I can't for the life of me understand why people would boo Callan Ward. He was a 21 year old kid being offered $1 million a season when he was nothing more than a promising young footballer. How could anybody seriously hold that against him?
He also wanted to sign with us more than a year before he agreed to terms with the morons, but we were stupid enough to hold off.

I don't begrudge him the move for a second. I didn't boo him tonight.

Ultimately though, he lowered his colours in late 2011 and then he crossed enemy lines. So I don't blame supporters who elect to boo him, either.

I don't hold it against him. I save my boos for the twin evils of AFL sponsored franchises with big cheque books and the incompetence that was our list management at the time that allowed it to happen.

He wis going to play until he is thirty or so you would think. When GWS runs into salary cap limitation which they will they won't be able to pay him anywhere near that for his next contract. If he stayed with us he would have been our next captain and probably our best paid player. If he kept improving at the rate he was when he played for us, his wage would have kept increasing. When he becomes a FA, his worth won't be anywhere near as much as it would have been if he stayed with us. He is going to be worse off all ways. Why do you think he was the only elite young player who has ever gone up there?

How good was Easton Wood? Has developed into a very assured dangerous running half back - is he now our most important player? Murph, Moydy and JJ make up probably the most attacking half back line in the AFL. Loving seeing Fletcher Roberts developing too which may allow Roughy to help big Will in the ruck.

Hopefully can add Talia to that list. I'm mystified why he was dropped, where has he played a bad game?

Part 3:

Roughy: Huge impact! I had doubts on him as a fwd, he was unlucky not to get a free right in front of goal. As a ruckman he was great and as a utility even better! I honestly don't know his best position, love him as backman (forget last year his shoulders were bung), but he can ruck, and he could be a forward (although he isn't a forward yet and needs to work a lot at this craft)! Great game today!

Biggs: Was the first to the backline when he came on. Feel he is a good kick but needs to have belief and kick through the ball. Feel he could be a good run with player!

Dale: I love him! His disposal was a bit off today but wow he finds the right spots! And he gets absolutely smashed every time and gets up and gets on with it! This kid has something, you think the Hill/Smith/Hill wingers of Freo and Hawks and I think this kid can get there!

This. Absolutely this. It's still very early for him at the Dogs but I feel when he has the ball he's just a bit cautious and I'd like to see him look to take the game on a bit more.

Firstly I don't think he is getting $1 million a season. Only 2 players got paid a million last year and I don't think Ward was one of them.

Secondly I think there is more reason for people to ridicule Ward than Griffen.
Griffen put his career on the line to help rescue us from more misery under one of the worst coaches in the history of the game, but was unfortunately hung out to dry by the administration who initially backed the coach. I am thankful for his courage.

Ward left the club who gave him his AFL start for some quick cash.

I think the young man was a little foolish and poorly advised. He had an opportunity to be an AFL star at the Bulldogs, the club representing the area he grew up in in the National league. He would have been well paid over the journey at the Dogs, even if it took a little longer to get there. Unfortunately he passed up that opportunity to take the easy cash and play for GWS.

I did boo him tonight, no particular reason. Just a sheep following the herd really. I agree though. I don't hold anything against Wardy. Took the money. Looking out for himself and his family. I don't hold anything against Giants for talking to RG either, we did the same with Boyd.

I've just got problems with Griffen. That c**ksucking thunderc**t deserves everything he cops.

He could just as easily have suffered a career ending injury in Round 1, 2012. He'd have been stupid not to take the offer, even if in a perfect world he becomes a well-paid, iconic Bulldog stalwart - which he had all the courage, tenacity and ability to do.

He made the right decision, even if he's pissed away the best years of his career at that toilet of a club.

I don't think you can seriously make those assumptions and base your argument solely of that. All it takes is one serious injury and everything you said goes to shit, just look at Clay Smith as a perfect example. He had $5million sitting right in front of him, that sort of money sets him up for life. As a 21 year old you'd be irresponsible not to take it.

He may not be on a million a season, but he's definitely thereabouts. Whilst I can understand the logic of wanting to stay at the club and make you way up the ladder so to speak, he had the opportunity to jump up five rungs on the ladder without any effort whatsoever. Without knowing your profession, if you were offered double your wage I highly doubt you'd hesitate to jump ship, especially if you were only at said business for three years.

His decision is understandable because he took the lowest risk option financially, but that doesn't mean it was the right decision.

There is more to life than money.

Ward seems to have got off fairly lightly on this board. Abandoned us when he realised we were on the decline and for a shitload of $$$. And to top if off Melbourne got 2 first rounders for Scully and we got only 1 for him. Notice Scully was not the captain today.

ard got $800K a year and we got Jak MAcrae. No losers there.

Maybe so....but we didnt have chequebooks with zeros on the end to entice him to stay. IT wasnt gws or our fault... it was the the AFL. They shat on us on numerous occasions with GCS and GWS.

Oh my god. You have taken to rewriting history to support your pathetic narrative.

Facts are that Griff was asked whether Macca should continue add coach. Griff said yep, I can work with him to turn this ship around. Then three weeks later left us with our pants around our ankles in trade week.

I understand why Griff left and I don't hate him, but to glorify his actions to suit your own anti McCartney agenda...

1. Let it go, he's not at the club any more
2. Griff cost us three extra weeks of him, you've picked the wrong Knight in shining Armour

And unless someone has some new angle, can we not trawl through the whole Ward thing all over again this year?

I know. Let's have a discussion about whether we should change our name back to Footscray. We haven't done that one for a few months.

Never been more proud to be a bulldog.

Mitch Wallis was hurt by Griffen leaving because he bleeds for this club, and he showed today why he could be a future captain. Hard to think of a better game when the club was under the pump, he walked off the field with not an ounce left in his body.

what an amazing win, its a real roller coaster this year, but loving every minute of it.

STATS (1)
With the round not yet complete we are sitting in 9th place.

In 9 rounds we have played 7 sides in the top 8 and only 2 outside it.
We have beaten 5 of those top 8 sides and come closer than anyone to beating top-placed Fremantle. We have only lost to Freo and the Hawks.

Our problem has been our inconsistency against lower sides, hence the losses to Melbourne and St Kilda.

The good news is that it means we have a lot of games to come against lower ranked sides. In fact in 13 games left we play only two sides currently in the top 8 - West Coast (away) and Collingwood.

STATS (2)
We are still incredibly young and inexperienced. Coming into today we had:
4 players with < 10 games
9 players with < 25 games
12 players with < 50 games (over half the side)
18 players with 80 or fewer games.
Median experience = 41 games

And we have a few untried colts in the stable who also look pretty sharp.
It's only going to get better.

Technically Port Adelaide came closer to beating Fremantle in their R1 encounter.
You're right. Port led until half way through the final quarter.
We were level with about 10 mins to play - maybe I could hang my hat on that? ;)
