Who’s going to be our leading goal kicker this year????

I’d go with bont if forced to pick. That’s a bit sad.
If Bont, Wood, Dunkley, Johannisen, Dale, Dickson and
Picken all kick between 20 and 40 goals would you
still be sad ? Maybe that is a representation of the
changing face of football, interesting times !

Although Im still not quite sure what it is, picking out the one single metric that nobody would claim is his strong suit does not serve your argument well.

Need I remind you that during the best season of his career in which he managed to kick 50 goals he only took 5 contested marks across a season spanning 23 games as opposed to last years clearly injury ruined one when he took 1 in 9 games?

Has he peaked? Almost certainly, but that is not the question at hand. Now if Fronk had asked if his is our best contested mark...

To be able to kick nearly 50 goals in a season in a team that delivers the ball into the F50 like our does, and excel in multiple finals, speaks volumes.

Dicko is an absolute gun who is, I think, probably succumbing to degenerative injuries. After the GF, he had his hip replaced with gel or something equally gruesome and long-term sounding.

Dunkley. He'll play permanent forward a la the Clay Smith/ Wallis role of tough insidish mid who dominates F50 stoppages.

Only difference is Dunkley is 191cm and can mark.

I'm not sure he is a natural forward. His finishing is average at best.

Hes not a good set shot but his snaps are, dribbles and soccer goals are good, and that is what we need from him. I think we do need to play him forward more often.

If he's the leading goalscorer of the year, how many does he need to kick for us to make finals?
35? If we can get a large contribution from Bont, Picken again, Dahl, Boyd, Redpath etc. Will be very interesting to see this year. Obviously last year our forward line was a schamozzle so it would have been a heavy focus. Interesting times.

The Pieman handicaps inevitably reveal my thinking on this. Here's the top 15 and it's pretty open:

So I agree with your re the Bont, even if he's playing 50% midfield. If Dickson stays fit he's got to be a strong chance.

Redpath is a conundrum. If he only plays a dozen games he almost certainly won't be leading goalkicker but if plays 20 he could easily kick 30-40 goals which might be enough. Being in the leadership group might sway MC to give him the nod on the odd occasion when it's borderline who to choose as KPF.

Schache is a conundrum too. If he gets enough games he too could easily kick 30+ but on JLT form I suspect he won't get his chance for a few weeks and will only make his way slowly.

I think Dunkley will lead the way with goals.
We need a greater contribution of goals from our mids. Most importantly conversion rates to increase from last year.

He's gone downhill since he cut off the dreads :(

If Dunkley is our leading goal kicker at years end , we are in more trouble than I thought !

unfortunately he’s looked rusty since his fantastic Grand Final.
He has. He missed most of the first half of last year and that preseason so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He’s never been all that quick and has relied on smarts which you don’t lose over night. I’m hoping he can get a run at it this year.

Who’s your tip King???

I was hopeful Shache would kick 30 odd this year. But from what we have seen pre season he may struggle to play too many games.
I think Dickson will if he gets himself fit , otherwise Redpath.
Cupboard is pretty bare fronk !
