Poor Shane Savage, no deserves to have to go to that shit heal of a club. McEvoy, meh it's the big body we needed but if we had traded with Brisbane for the better prospect of Longer. We would of only needed a big body for a couple of seasons, what McEvoy is 24 so minimum if body holds up is 6. Yeah addresses what we need straight away so good job but payed overs for a Goob.

Tap work = Hickey >>>>>>> McEvoy
Around the ground = McEvoy >>>>>> Hickey

Good luck to Big Ben

I'm not sure I agree, but who cares ;)

I've been a big fan of Savage's, he has all the tools to be elite. His problem has always (IMHO) been his attitude/preparation. If he can get that sorted he'll be a gun. The move to a new club, more game time, maybe entry into the leadership group (?) will be just the thing he needs.

Win-win this one.

Wright was on SEN this morning saying that we're still trying for Longer. Unlikely that we'd be able to get him now though.

Yeah listened to Wright on the AFL website his interview on trade radio, one of the keys for Longer was game time and being in the first 22. That looks a lot harder with the McEvoy trade but Wright was still saying Hawthorn was still keen. We are still interested.

Wright also talked about Hale being used in the forward line more, maybe that's where Longer fits in, said Hale was 29 and that Longer would be in the long term plan if he wanted to come. Hale will be played mainly forward now and help in the ruck. (maybe something to do with interchange caps)

Asked about Chapman, no talks going on yet and Wright went on about how we already had many forward options and how we are talented in the forward line, that Shoey was coming back and played in the forward line originally. Hmmm interesting and talked up O'Brien who we picked up from SA at pick 28 last year. Mentioned list room in regards to Chappy and I'd say its a reasonably confident no on him.

Nothing on Ellis yet, Sewell was not put on the table but by Hawthorn, was brought up by other clubs to see if Hawthorn would trade him.

Ben McEvoy played every game for the Saints this year, has played 91 games in his career and is still only 24 and is just about to enter the prime stages of his career. We could not have picked him up at the right time. He will be our number 1 ruck next year, with Hale playing the forward/second ruck. Don't underestimate McEvoy ability and atletisism around the ground an his marking is impressive as well. Couldn't be happier with this pick.

Also good luck to Shane Savage at his new club the Saints. :thumbsu:

I think this looks a win/win trade for both clubs.. Hawks get a ruckman in his prime while contending for flags and Stk get a very capable midfielder and a first rounder which is perfect for where we are at.. Big boy has elite endurance and a great set of hands.. He is a competitor but his actual ruckwork isn't that great and something he has to continue to work on.. Anyway all the best and hopefully big Macca has a great career with you guys

BIG-BOY!!!! ... Welcome to the club ... Do well son!!!!

PS - Hate to say it, we will regret giving up Savage ... Still believe this kid has the makings of a star.
Anyway, we move forward ... Good luck Shane!!!

By the way, it's not a win-win for both clubs, because that would be a win-win-win-win. Just a win for both clubs, which is a win-win.

Not aimed at anyone in particular, just getting annoyed with radio coverage.

I only noticed one "win-win for both clubs" on this thread and it came after your post. I think you primed that one, you might have opened the flood gates :)

I'm a little bit unsure on the trade. I would have really liked Longer but I'm happy to see what McEvoy can do. I thought he was pretty poor in the 2nd half of this season though, remember him getting smashed by some in the media. Hopefully that was just a blip.

I think this is a lock - Schoe forward. Why would the Hawks change their backline around? Schoe might be the long term replacement for Lake or Gibson, but they don't need to be replaced yet and Schoe is too good not to play.

Probably mess his development up though. Draft him as a forward and start developing him that way, suddenly switch him to a KPB and now switch it around again? I'd rather keep him as a backman. O'Brien should be the forward they develop and focus on. Lake was great this year for us, brilliant even, but he is going to be gone sooner rather than later. We will need Schoe then.

Love picking up these players that have ready done their development work, for a price that is probably a lot lower than when the risk was a lot higher (I.e at zero senior games).

You just can't top that kind of trading .

We will have a balancing challenge with rucks and height, but if BIG BOY can give higher output than Bailey then this is a significant trade - without it we would have a clear weakness that other clubs could expose.

Stats from the Fox Footy Analyst:
McEvoy 2011-13 -Won hitout at 37% of contests (lowest in AFL) -26% hitout-to-adv (AFL avg) -111 intercept marks (clear No.1 of ruckmen)
