There is VERY little chance he will be at Hawthorn next year.

Disappointing for Hawks fans.

Your manager doesn't come out and say things like that unless he is moving clubs.

i was thinking the exact same thing....the feeling i get is that his manager has released this and is hopeing more clubs take interest aswell....
hey may want to go home already.
would any WA clubs go for him? if any i'd say the eagles

What a shame. Seriously who would actually want to play for the Dons these days? Is he afraid he's not gonna get a game elsewhere?

he better not come play for us, apparantly all the eagles players were telling him on the weekend to sign up with hawthorn because we dont want him, haha.

It's a pretty odd decision to go from Hawthorn to Essendon, I could understand if he were coming back home, but to go to another Victorian side that IMO is in a much worse position than Hawthorn strikes me as odd.

Unless he's doing it for the $$$

and FWIW i hope he doesn't come to the Eagles.

Does anyone not think that he may actually have a decent manager, who is trying to get the best deal for his client, regardless of which club it is?

Yeah that is exactly what he is doing.

He'll earn more if Franklin earns more, couldn't give a rats who he played for really.

Pick 1 should do it

Yep in the PSD.

Essendon can hold Hawthorn over a barrel if Buddy wants to go to Essendon.

Either he goes in the pre season draft (you get nothing) or they give you a pick in the 3rd or 4th round depending how generous they're feeling.

on a serious note, wat would he be worth? a late 1st round? providing essendon dont win for the rest of the season do they qualify for the priority pick at the end on the 1st round? or weren't they crap enough last year?

The concern to Hawthorn is managing the salary cap, it depends how vital Franklin sits with the 10 or so other first round draft picks that have been recruited over the last 2 drafts.

This was my concern with such a heavy influx of young talent.

Having said that, letting one slip to Essendon of all teams would hurt a hell of a lot.

But Franklin does. No one has heard from Franklin. It's been his manager doing all the talking so far. Lance probably does want to stay at Hawthorn, but he wants to get as much for it as possible (and who doesn't want to earn as much as possible?).

He stays at Hawthorn, gets the extra 50k a year...and the bumbers are still up sh*t creek

fine by me

is he worth that extra 50K tho?
he has only played one good game this year and that was against us.
his other games he has had very little if any influence on the game at all

True, but we can't afford to over value him. We have gone down a rebuilding process where we have drafted an unprecedented amount of top quality youth (1st round draft picks) over such a short period of time = difficulty when all the contracts come up for renewal at the same time

Essendon may have offered him a contract, but this is a good way to jack up Hawthorns offer. If Buddys manager comes out publicly and claims more clubs are offering for him, it will force Hawthorn to jack up their offer. If he is this young and he wants to leave allready even to another Victorian club, he must have a real ego problem and will be a pest at another club.
