And as each week passes, Tambling just looks better and better :D:cool:

Who also hasn't signed yet, as I take it.

Its interesting, however, that it is Franklin that is generating the massive interest, which in spite of a lot of the nonsense that is talked on this site (primarily by Richmond & West Coast dills on the hill) speaks volumes for the high regard in which he is held by football departments.

The young fellow will almost certainly stay at Hawthorn, despite the usual contractual toing and froing. If he costs us a bit extra, so be it.

That could be because Richie has no intentions of leaving Tigerland. In fact all our kids look pretty happy and enthusiastic to stay at Richmond :)

If all this posturing is true, then this is a situation where I would like to see the horx show some strength, counter punch, and start hocking him around for the best deal they can get.

**** him off!

Lance Franklin = Des Headland.

If Hawthorn give Buddy the money he wants what about the other young first round draft picks will they be happy with their contracts

How does this differ from the individual contractual situations that are forged at every club in any given year?

Player X is always going to end up getting more than player Y.

Young footballers are generally just happy to be at a club and making a solid living.

Dons do not want Buddy, but they will do everyhting in its power to push up his price at Hawthorn or in particulat the Eagles who are chasing him hard and off field deals will be the clincher in getting him. Hawks can not match how the Eagles set their players up. How come no players leave the Eagles?

Actually, given the role of the player manager, it means that young Richie isn't attracting any attention from other clubs.

There is zero evidence on offer that Lance wants to leave the Hawks, its just that he is a player that is very attractive to other clubs.

the down side of proffesional footy for sure. 200 large a year is a fair offer for a kid with huge potential but really hasnt done that much.
you have to be careful shopping around 19 year olds though, it puts alot of pressure on them.

This looks like negotiation in the media. Franklin's agent, will have "leaked" that tidbit which appears in this morning's Age. Essendon get named because it is the most likely first off pre season draft pick. Don't be surprised if Franklin signs on again at Hawthorn for a bit more than the $200,000.00 allegedly offered to him.
you could be right, much like collingwood's name is always put in as being in the hunt for players. fact is all clubs would be intersted in franklin. the managers usually drive these leakes for sure.

You do realise before he was drafted that Tambling made it perfectly clear that he would love to go to essendon. He was a mad bomber and Micky Long fan as a kid and he's now coming out of contract.....we might send Longy around to have a word to the kid.;)

just wondering, is this in line with the hawks policy of offering no longer than 2 year deals? i would think you would offer lance 3. i like the concept, especially for older players ( it was spot on in the rawlings case) but for young guys it doesnt work unless all clubs are doing it. their will always be someone else to offer a young player a longer deal.

He'd be a very good pick up.

This is quite laughable. Media again lacking serious stories. Id be suprised if Essendon wernt keen. They can try all they want, they wont get him.

No year can go by without a Hawthorn player being discussed as "leaving". Unbelieveable..

They probably read bee dee's posts and thought, ill make a story about it..

Doubt Buddy will leave, but his chances of getting to Essendon for nothing are 0%. Essendon themselves know that too, after all, they were the 3rd party in the Veale deal ;)
You couldnt be more wrong if you tried.

The Veale Deal was Rawlings, North didnt have the number 1 pick in the PSD, so Rawlings couldnt just walk.

The Hawks cant force Buddy to sign a trade deal, he can walk away as he is out of contract. He signs up for the PSD and Essendon get him with 1 pick, simple.

I thought we could force him into a trade deal if we wanted to?

Well that's exactly what the Veale deal was. Hawthorn didn't want to lose Rawlings for nothing in the PSD, so found another way to get compensated, with the connivance of the Doggies. Lochlan Veale, a Box Hill seconds player, was the pawn. The "Veale deal" was an ingenious method of sending Rawlings to the Bulldogs, against his will, with Hawthorn gaining the draft pick it needed to do business with Essendon.

I personally doubt Buddy will be traded, but Hawthorn's hardline won't be pushed around trading is second to probably only Port Adelaide in the competition.
Missed this post firstly, but once again, a player can refuse to be traded, he cannot refuse if he nominates for a draft, national or PSD, all he can do is sit out.

The huge difference with this and Rawlings is that the Dons have the 1st pick, like the Dogs did, North had nothing to give.

The Veale Deal forced Rawlings into the PSD and to the Dogs. Unless Buddy accepts the deal to stay or be traded you get nothing for him
