I can’t give thumbs down emojis as I use Tapatalk. Until now I have also been blissfully unaware, that I was probably getting bombarded with thumbs down replies to my posts. Can confirm that the board is still worth persisting with, regardless!
LOL - all this time you have been thinking people liked your physiotherapy opinions?

Thank you for your response Apex.

Can you please help me see where I am suggesting the use of the thumbs down emoji? If I have it is in error and I'd like your help to identify where I made it.

We didn't determine that the board is not worthy of the , quite the contrary we decided to take the position that we are above it.
Apologies, I misread that part of your post.

And you’ve made that decision on behalf of the community with no significant feedback outside of your own collective. You’re mods. You don’t own the board.

That’s kind of Apex’s point.

For instance a long time poster within the trade thread, a veritable cesspool of opinions come trade time, posts a ridiculous trade “idea” with no thought to it knowing full well it won’t happen. Without the dislike function three posters jump on it with “this is stupid” “not going to happen” “WTF?” are we really suggesting that’s better than a “👎”? To me that can get real nasty really quickly.

Considering the function remains available perhaps a more nuanced and targeted approach would benefit the community to a greater degree… There’s clearly abusers of that function so revoke their access? Or limit it to certain types of threads?

Thanks for your thoughts Sco.

I think we're taking a very binary view of the situation. Even in the scenario that you describe something you consider ridiculous might not be seen as such by the poster who made it and perhaps others.

How does hitting a post deemed as ridiculous by yourself with a thumbs down improve the conversation? How is that better than simply ignoring it?

If you respond to any of my posts with a simple "WTF J?" it's a flag for me to respond, and try clarify my original idea. It invites conversation infinitely more than  does.

Well I was unaware exactly how many people hated them… hopefully not many. :D

I mean, I was pretty concerned that Moore had done his ACL a few weeks back, so that probably didn’t inspire people to throw roses in my direction…

Engaging in personal abuse used to be my favorite option. But it seems like that's gone too.

you could try harvesting belly button lint

As someone with strong opinions for me it’s a nice means to make a point whilst preventing the conversation denigrating rather than improving it. Philosophically from my perspective it feels like you might just be overlooking that it’s harder for some than others to ignore stuff like that. By way of context I’m talking something like a 6 way trade that nets us Oliver and the Eagles 1st for Henry etc. I’m fully on board with really analytical and well researched posts getting “disliked” adding nothing.

Your next paragraph drills down on that difference in philosophy, IMO. Where you see that “WTF” response as a flag another might see it as a red rag. I’m inclined to take it a certain way depending on the poster. A new poster I’m less inclined to want to engage whereas a familiar handle offers different avenues. As someone that reads a lot of content on here (I’d say I’ve read almost every post in the trade thread) and uses the function sparingly it’s one less tool for me to engage effectively. I’m all for functionality that improves the user experience, but I’m not sure this is it.

FWIW I feel that Reddit is a more comparitive discussion based platform than Insta or FB and it utilises a downvote option. I would suggest the dislike/ downvote options aren’t available on social media platforms because people are primarily not posting content anonymously…

Thanks Sco. That's very well considered. I'll take it back to the team and we'll continue this over PM.

I don’t like the thumbs down myself. As others have said, there’s always other ways for people to express themselves if they feel so inclined but a thumbs down is a quick easy way to bring down the tone of the conversation. I agree, it doesn’t really contribute .

Tonight I discovered we haven't won a reserves premiership since 1976. Wonder if we'll break the drought this year? 🤔

Well, the AFL is now officially corrupt or totally incompetent. Cripps decision overturned. I just cannot believe it. He should have received at least 3 matches for that. Geelong fans should be livid!!!!!

whatever your opinion of the cripps bump or non-bump, the process was pretty interesting. Is it any wonder with lawyers involved?
We would not have had the balls to take the Carlton appeal route, nor would our lawyer have been able to speak for an hour and 45 mins about a single bump, nor would our player have get off.

I am putting my faith in the footy gods.
Because the AFL appear unable to protect the head.
So, footy gods, please deliver the Cripps blown knee at the 12 minute, 24 second mark of quarter one.

I just saw another article that says that we cant win it... wayne carey. Does anyone care? Just add him to the list. In fact, I'm not convinced that we're the best team in the competition but what do I know? Maybe someone needs to think up something new and argue that they dont know who is going to win it.

We can’t win. Carey is right.
And if the impossible does happen, it will be even sweeter to bring up these articles and ask their employers, “are your employees experts?”.

We should employ a lawyer to run on the ground & dispute non free kicks for Ginnivan.
