Sps very quiet year. Would like freo to trade down pick 3 with gws. Maybe get English as well
I wouldn't say he's been very quiet. 23.4 disposals and 5 tackles per game is still some very good production. He's so highly skilled, moves so well through traffic and is a very good athlete I can't see him slipping in the draft. In my opinion, he's very likely to have an excellent AFL career and I'd have no problem picking him at 3.

SPS quiet mainly because of him being carefully looked after he had injuries . When he took the field I think his class as with last year was clearly evident . He is not that quick , sort of see him in the Sam Mitchell style . Great in traffic, highly skilled either side but not great speed or hurt on board . Tackling is top class

SPS not tall ? Many of the stats quoted are old he is 181 cm not 179 but even that far from tall

Not sure what you're asking or responding to regarding his height?

I agree with you that his class regularly shows when he plays, but Petrevski-Seton does have elite speed, which is proven by his ability to run sub-3 seconds in the 20m sprint.

Who do you like for ports first pick? Ken after a player that should impact first year. Port board thinking mid/tall fwd though think marshall isnt going to impact right away

Also out of the pinch hitting mids; rotham, scrimshaw, venables, taranto etc who do you think has the best scope to become a full time impact midfielder?

Cheers

I think it's a really important draft for Port. It's been a while since they've had a pick this high. I personally wouldn't be too worried about 1st year impact and would just pick who I think is going to have the best career overall. I know they rate Venables a little higher than most clubs do so he could be a chance there. I'd probably take Tim Taranto if he's still on the board at that pick and he is one who could impact in his 1st year, his game is very developed and so is his body. He shouldn't take too much time too adjust to AFL.

Out of those you mention, I think Taranto is most likely to become a full time mid due to the prolific ball winning ability he showed this year (including the great contested ball winning ability) on top of the work he did forward. I would love to see a club commit to developing Rotham as a full time midfielder, I think that would raise his potential as a player and could develop into a star in the right place.

where do you see him going. If he is a second rounder, the eagles could trade their first for two second rounders and get rotham and drew.

Josh Rotham is someone who people seem to have a wide variety of opinions on (in terms of draft range). Ranging from as high as about 10, to as low as about 30. My opinion is that he's a 1st round talent with a lot of upside. I think it's most likely he gets picked up in the 10-15 range and wouldn't risk trading back from pick 12 if I really wanted him.

De Wit a chance at being drafted?
Small chance in my opinion. A bit of interest is clearly there. He's certainly a nice size for a club to work with, he's shown he can consistently take contested marks this season and has polled well in the coach's votes but going at about 55% by foot is a worry. Might need to improve that in the state leagues before an AFL club commits to him.

what about fowler and allsop from dandenong are they a chance?
Yeah I'd put both of them down as better chances than De Wit but also being no certainties. There's quite a lot of good small forwards in the mix this year so they've just got to be high enough on a club's list at the right time.

Where's Ryan Garthwaite?....Best tall defender in the Young-guns game last Friday.
He will feature in my next update out soon. Likely somewhere in the 60's. His 1-on-1 defensive work has been great but how will a slightly undersized key defender with a poor kick go in the AFL? That's been the reason I've never had him that high.

They won't be reading too much into last weeks schedule filling scratch match . A one off with lads thrown together , little or no structures , game plan and it showed . Was a collection of good individual moments rather than memorable team efforts

That is an amateurish way of looking at it. Wouldn't the game be viewed as one last chance for borderline hopefuls of pushing there name up clubs draft boards?

To be fair, it wouldn't be about the McCluggage's, SPP's, Taranto's it would be about the games of guys like Shai Bolton, Pat Kerr, Dylan Clarke who could have gone from 30+ to top 20 picks possibly.

I am an amateur as are you neither of us are paid for our opinion , you My rationale was explained plus There was much debate about the value of game and why it was being played . WA lads flying in effectively 2 days before and 5 days after a number played local final .

If your of an opinion that playing a scratch match , under altered condition such as playing time is going to impact drafting good luck to you .

So if some lads have gone up @20 spots that means an equal number drop . So they drop after 2 seasons at least of review, interviews , Academy feedback data, character checks .

In part my crap and amateur opinion has been formed by talking to players agents and a couple of local recruiters . Clearly professionals with amateur view of things .

One scratch match will have nigh on no impact. Did you watch the match? To repeat above no structure , little team play . A few hours light training together in preceding two days only

You have to have quite some ego and attitude to script to someone in this forum that their views are amateurish .

If you read many of my post I could not do a phantom draft as it would in my view be totally unfair to comment on the vast majority of those to be drafted , those outside of WA.

What I continue to struggle with is very strong and what appears to be uniformed opinion on WA boys both upside and downside . Also a lack of understanding of draft processes . Until a few years ago I knew only at a superficial level but having spent past 5 years immersed in WA footy each weekend , meeting talent scouts, recruiters , agents it is quite eye opening .

Even the latest combine results you can see how it is just a small part of the equation . The Academy make all their data available to clubs so they know much of the data driven results .

An example SPS best hands, cleanest kick I've seen in local footy for years . All "experts" agree he is top class but failed to make top ten . Just a result in the day

SPP who according to some forum scribes can't kick, his kicking is poo, rubbish, came out top in goal kicking . Again a single kick on the day decides this
