DT Trading Discussion 2010 (Part 5)

Need to create a DP link with my mids through a trade to a playing player (so no McNeill, unless he gets named!) to cover at least one 0 in the forwards....

Question is:

Do I go Howlett to either Davis or Dangerfield.....

Davis fallen gun, has been unreliable this season, dropped once form/injury.

Danger, lots of injuries the major concern, but looks to be getting back to some form. Might reasonably be expected to outscore Davis, and is cheaper....

Anyone??

I am considering getting Davis, mainly due to the lack of mid rookies coming along. Gysberts is tempting, but JS is the worry even tho he has had 2 good games. Davis/Danger are near certs to play every game. If not just swing in a forward DP if needed.
Next week Armstrong>Davis to sit alongside McNeil on mid bench seems a reasonable plan. Something that needs chewing over and over. Remember whoever you bring in now for you bench is pretty much staying for the season now.

Then slide him into the rucks to cover Hille. Lobbe might get a game but I havent made a trade in the Rucks all season and was always planning to bring Tippett in as my 9th forward.

Ive got 6 trades and ~100k in the bank.

These are my thoughts at the moment:

Trade out Howlett-> L.Davis and DP with Higgins to cover Higgins. Once Higgins comes back swap them back around and have Davis as cover for injuries. Means that I might cop Hille and Pods donuts this week.

Next option is to go Howlett-> Gystberts and Roberts-> L.Davis. Would mean that I have decent cover in both areas BUT only have 4 trades left for LTI's.

Next option is to go Howlett-> Gystberts and Higgins-> Chapman. Would mean I get in a decent mid player on the bench and Chappy for Higgins.

Another other options that anyone can see and thoughts would be appreciated

With 7 trades left i'm a little hesitant to go Howlett to Gysberts for no reason, but my feeling is Howlett will make way for Stanton this week so it seems an obvious trade as i want some kind of cover in the mids.

I'm steering clear of Sandi and Cox as well so have narrowed it down to Ryder, Clark, Mumford, Hmac, Jolly. Ryder being the only one that would need the Gysberts trade, the rest i can do as a straight swap.

Another option i've considered is, Gysberts, Howlett, Hitchcock to Tippett which i think has its merit with DP.

My only real curveballs would be if Howlett doesn't get dropped or if Lobbe gets named. Hitchcock getting named would also eliminate my need to bring Tippett in.

I'm in a similar spot to you (although I have ten trades) with premiums and a lack of cash.

TBH I wouldn't call Tippett the best option, but with your cash position, maybe. I'd look at Mummy, has potential to keep scoring well as he gets it around the ground.

Other than that just wait to see if the rookie elevations bring any decent downgrade targets.

Did you know you can actually spend big on your whole team and not JUST one position like your team?

Although I only have 6 trades left... I'd like to think of my team as very solid all over the park with only one upgrade left... (Gysberts may turn into a 85+ 6th mid)

You have very limited trades left so you want to maximise what you do with them. If I were you I would downgrade Hille to Mummy to free up more cash then next week upgrade Maguire to a gun. You might be stuck with Fyfe for a while which isn't such a bad thing.

Alternatively, work out the best ruck you can get for Hille to allow you tp upgrade Maguire to say Gilbert.

That is exactly what I was going to suggest you do. Webberley will play all year so you can afford to get a 77k player as your 9th defender to maximize your cash gain from a downgrade.

You have an excellent team for 12 trades remaining so if I were you I'd do Kennelly to a 77k player and Maguire to a premium.

Your only other concern is your bench cover in your midfield. So I'd look at one of these options - either look at bringing Gysberts in (which means postponing the trades I suggested above for 1 week in which you could play Webberley on the field) so you'll at least have some decent cover, or look at bringing a cheap DP link onto your mid bench so if need be, you can swing one of your DP forwards into the middle and put Gumbleton on the field.

The Midfield cover is definitely a concern and I am contemplating Gysberts but obviously want to downtrade kennelly before he comes back and with him a chance this week, might need to trade Shuey and Kennelly this week to Gysberts and Strijk, and then next week bring in Carrazzo or Gilbert. Will probably just have to ride Hille being out and hope Lobbe gets played this week

I have 8 trades and $142k. Three things need to be done fairly soon –decide what to do with Hille, upgrade Maguire and upgrade Yarran (with Rockliff/Hitchcock to follow).

What should I do this week? I was thinking that the most urgent is to decide what to do with Hille. Should I trade him straight for a Mitch Clark/Ryder/Kreuzer premium type, OR just trade Warnock for a cheap spud like Lobbe/Simpson/Skipper/Stanley or whoever will get a game for the next 2-3 weeks and can then be used as backup once Hille returns OR just cop zeros for a few weeks.

Not sure whether upgrading Maguire or Yarran is a higher priority for me. For Maguire I am thinking Gilbert, and for Yarran I am thinking one of Pav/Brown or even Waite. If it’s Brown or Waite then I’d want to get in this week due to their low B/Es.

So in summary would love some help, especially on the Hille decision, and generally on what my strategy should be!

Maguire is the least of your problems. He's averaging 75 and Webberley is adequate short term coverage.

I dont mind option 3 tbh...
normally i would say dont trade however you have 9 trades left and a complete team. You have great cover in all areas of the field. Sitting in 350th you could play trengove however you do run the risk of him having a stinker and your copping a below 60 score. I wouldnt be opposed to you trading howlett to gysberts netting you 131600k and upgrading Hill to Ryder. Ryder dominated last year in Hilles absece and has been fantastic this year again. You will still be left with Gysberts as cover for the mids and shuey who fingers crossed should return after the mid season break however im not entirely convinced as glandular fever can take a while to shake off.
