i'm sorry but some of these trades are ludicrous. at this stage of the season the only trades you should be contemplating are ones that fix gaping holes in your team. by gaping holes i mean you selected prestigiacomo or Ronaldinho or Gary Ablett Snr or something like that.

You only get 20 trades each season.

With the exception of long term injury trades, every trade should win both ways.

The traded out player should have peaked. (So, don't trade Trengove/Martin/any other rookie that you started out with as they have not yet peaked).

The trade-in player should have fallen to a price floor (so I don't see the point of trading in someone like Jono Brown at this stage of the season).

It's still too early to dismiss out of hand someone who is going shit (possible exception might be Tippett, sigh, but look at the way Hille and Harvey turned it around).

In a season there are probably 17,000 good two-way trades. All your job is to do is to pick 20 of them. Go off on half cocked one- way trades and you'll regret it come round 16 when you say "oh no, I could have won DT if it weren't for my injuries"

Jeez would you listen to the voice of morality here. stop the presses. close the threads. trading is bad. you are like that guy in primary school who told all the other kids to stop climbing trees because they could hurt themselves. But guess what? CLIMBING TREES IS FUN. and so is trading, so bugger off.

Hey fellow DT'ers

Weighing up a trade or two this week, could be the week of cash for me:

Hitchy>Pods AND Banner>Lucus

I could do both of these, or 1, or nothing

Opinions?

I say everyone should trade. :thumbsu: Less competition.

the shit Dream teamers' board is that way. ====>

my dream team name is "The Horribles" and i am ranked 98,000th. Is that relevant?

It is relevant because I don't think that you are in a position to criticise trading practice if you yourself are not doing so well. If you are going to direct others who trade to the "Shit Dreamteamer's" board, show us your team, show us why we shouldn't trade. Show us what gives you the right to bag out people trading.

If Ben Howlett is named I will trade Shuey to Howlett. Also considering Hitchcock to Pods.

I need some cash so will consider these trades...I'm really waiting for rounds 7-11 where my cash cows are peaking and I can make some serious upgrades...

I'm not making any trades this week as any trade of a rookie who has played 3-4 games to a rookie who has played 2 games, will IMHO still only be a stepping trade towards getting a keeper and in the long run a durable keeper is what we are after.

That said I have used 4 trades already but 3 were to fix big mistakes I made and 1 was of course Roo.

Although Pods, Rockliffe, Lucas and Colyer look attractive, none have the job security (yet) of Trengove, Scully, Martin, Hitchcock and Gumby. for me i would rather save the trade and have a rookie playing everyweek and move towards is ceiling price.
There will be many other rookies to come that will be downgrade targets.

I'm not sure how you could say that Hitchcock's job security is greater than Podsiadly, Rockliff and Lucas.

Colyer I can understand, but not the other 3.

Hitchcock has been ordinary and would surely be close to losing his spot in the Port team. Also has very limited scoring potential.

Podsiadly has been brilliant in both games and will play a heap of senior footy this year. Bomber Thompson has indicated that the Geelong forward line works really well with Pods there and won't be dropping him any time soon.

Rockliff is in the Brisbane side arguably in place of one of the injured Adcock or Buchanan, both of whom are not expected to return to the senior team for another few weeks at the very least. He was brilliant in the preseason and I can't see him getting dropped if he keeps performing solidly.

As a Carlton fan I can tell you that Lucas will play a hell of a lot of senior footy this year. His debut against Essendon was good, but he lifted to a whole new level and was brilliant against the Crows. He won't be dropped for a while yet - even with Brock, Thornton and Waite to return.

I agree with you in general terms that you should be careful trading a rookie down to other rookies, particularly with job security a major issue, but IMO you have chosen some poor examples with those names.

F Oath it's relevant. You obviously don't give a sh#t about the overall comp.

Injuries aside, I've already planned my next 2 rounds of trades. The 4 trades will change my starting 22 as follows:

Pods for Yarran
Judd for Martin
Maguire for Peterson (done via a fwd/bk substitution involving Gwilt and Phil Davis)

Why wait for potentially an additional 70 - 80 points per week? I'll still have 14 trades for upgrading Gwilt and Trengove + injuries.

When you are sitting 145th overall and in contention, then you can start preaching.

Judds BE is like 160...

wouldnt it be best to wait at least a few weeks?

I'm willing to bet a Toyota Kluger that he won't be in the top 1000 when the end of the season comes.

Some people just don't have a clue about cash cow peak price and the prime trading weeks.

Keep up the good work KidA. Hope you pick the right premiums for your upgrades.

can't wait till trengove, martin and co hit 250k + with BE of 65 - 70 come round 9 - 10...

be interesting to see who has them till then

No it's not. He's played 1 game, and his current value won't change until after round 6. I don't want to defer on Judd's potential scoring power whilst waiting for Martin (averaging 60), reaches his peak value.

righto..FF genie must be wrong.;)

Judd is more suited to Supercoach anyway...trade away for him if you like...much better fish in the sea.

with a BE of 15, if Hitchcock gets dropped this weekend...i think there is more than enough reason to cash him in to Pod or Rock.
