I'm sorry but if you didn't see significant talk about West Coast's injuries then idk what you were watching/reading - and where are these pre-emptive excuses from? Media is too busy criticising our bench etiquette to be worried about that

All I saw was us being described as a 'rabble' and 'smell of Fitzroy' when we had 25 blokes on the track for weeks on end.

Robbo on 360 said words the effect of 'Carlton winning this week will be a Miracle, a win for the ages if they manage it'. You're playing last year's spooners who you rolled by 100 last time you played them.

To be clear, your injuries are absolutely an excuse, especially if you lose this week. They still haven't gotten close to ours last year though (nor have Richmond's).

Our injuries however were nothing more than a passing mention though before 'but they can't keep trotting that out' in the media.

Difference of course between our issues and the Blues is the injuries turned us from being a poor side to a horrific side. It could turn yours from being a finals side to one that misses.

You are still a chance this week though. Any side playing us is still a chance.

Oh for sure West Coast had as bad an injury run I have ever seen. Completely nullified your ability to even compete week on week - especially because it was such an extended run of games impacted.

Our injury issues aren't just restricted to this week or this year even. Been a massive issue for as long a decade plus and although a lot of it was just bad luck it was also related to list management and S+C.

Yes, you are always a chance in any game but considering our form has been off on top of the injuries it will take a mighty effort.

that drum has been banged all year and it's been tiresome
The effect of injuries has been discussed. What has been tiresome is the pretence in normal discussions from some people that it has no effect on a team's performance.

Yeah it's definitely a weird media thing.

Everything works on a graded scale as far as assessing impact on team performance. It's fine for people to say a) Carlton's injury list has been horrific all season or b) It hasn't actually been that bad (but is this week). A few on here seem to think the latter is an attempt censoring discussion. It's not. It's simply people disagreeing. Just like some people might say Carlton were well beaten by Hawthorn primarily due to the injuries, while some may think they were in the process of being outplayed anyway.

If people were less sensitive they could simply contest people's opinions instead of screeching "stop saying injuries don't affect performance!". That's just lazy strawmanning, and something carlton_99 in particular specialises in around these topics.

Once again you play the man - this time by tagging me into a discussion that has nothing to do with me and making a cheap and childish comment.

I am comfortable with my discussions around injuries because when it comes to Carlton I always provide an explanation for my view and not non-specific and irrelevant rubbish like "all teams have injuries". I also don't try and minimise the impact of opposition injuries (like some) because I am aware that fans that support that team would know a lot more about their impact than me.

I have always been consistent that injuries are never the sole reason for a poor performance but they can have a significant impact especially in certain contexts.

Yes that would be the normal way to talk about it.

Stick to that.

If we play half decently we should win given everything thats happened to them. Their injured outs are huge, and we're at full strength at home, so no excuses to be thrashed. Curnow probably not playing, and even if he dos he wont be 100%. The one thing I worry about is they'll be desperate... don't know if I can trust us just yet, hope it's at least competitive unless they're the ones not competing. Tipping them tentatively, but would love a win, be just gravy on a good 3 weeks.
We should have been "desperate" for the past month and yet we got walked over each time.

Yeah Carlton and Essendon just seem to lack the attitude of the Pies last year and Hawks this year. I think the pressure gets to them and they crumble. To use a tennis comparison, it's why say Djokovic has some out on top in most clutch moments whereas say Zverev usually chokes.

40% of the list is injured. Now actually forced to officially debut a player or two as we need to replace 6 minimum from the last game and have 5 only available who have played an AFL game (and one was sub in their only game and played half a quarter).
Yep, I'm not counting Binns as having played a game, he'll come in for sure.

Harley Reid to secure both mark and goal of the year in this game!

Yeah, until you're fielding actual VFL players for AFL games, don't bother bringing it up with WCE fans.

We've sat through 2 nights of Robbo on VFL 360 comparing Carlton vs WCE this weekend akin to the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae, one of the greatest wins of all time, etc.

WCE got a graph on On The Couch for about 10 seconds and that was all the talk we got.

Having said that, I absolutely empathise with the situation Carlton are going through right now, it ****ing sucks.

This is West Coast last real hit out for the year. Home crowd, Gaff last game, a win not affecting their draft pick etc etc.
West Coast should be smelling the blood in the water and going in for the kill. Next week in Geelong is an automatic loss.. this will be the game they want to win.
