Could see this for the first test:-

Khawaja
Head
Labuschange
Smith
McSweeney/Konstas
Webster
Carey
Starc
Lyon
Boland
Kuhnemann

Second test:-

Kwahaja
Head
Labuschange
Smith
McSweeney/Konstas
Webster
Connelly
Carey
Boland/Starc (only playing 1 quick)
Lyon
Kuhnemann
I like the idea of using different players in each test.

1st Test
1 Head
2 Konstas
3 Labuschagne
4 Smith
5 McSweeney
6 Webster
7 Carey
8 Starc
9 Lyon
10 Kuhnemann
11 Boland

2 main spinners & 4 part-time spinners should be plenty.

2nd test swap Lyon for Murphy as both needed to bowl plenty of overs. Would also bring in Connolly in the 2nd test.

There's some real pillock posts in this thread.

Sure, we hold every bilateral trophy, we're the world champs, we run the entire world.

But flogs are BORED and want to make wholesale changes for no reason at all.

We need a cricket board for people that aren't deadshits. A discussion forum of the gentleman's game should be the best of BF when we're talking test cricket, there are too many impatient flogs who have no concept of how hard cricket is, how good you have to be to get this far, and how you deserve every opportunity that you've earned.

They'll go with Uzzie not Konstas IMO, but otherwise I reckon that's the side that will roll out.

I doubt Lyon would get swapped out at this stage of his career.

Given we have already made the ICC World Championship & needing to turnover our team over the next couple of years... we should be using it as an opportunity to try new players.

We should absolutely be giving Murphy more opportunities, given we may need him to takeover Lyon soon, so imo should get at least 1 test.

Also, Konstas not Khawaja is the future, so should play at least 1 test to appreciate subcontinent conditions.

What we could or should do and what we will do are two different things. Whether we like it or not the results say our selectors do a decent job.

I said at the time Marsh should have been replaced by Webster for the 2nd Adelaide Test, given he couldn't bowl.

The selectors waited til the final test. Had they failed to make that change, we likely would have drawn the series. Bumrah getting injured may have saved us too.

The big issue with continuing with Marsh is it put an extra workload on the other bowlers. Hazelwood broke down & Starc struggled towards the end too.

Yes we may have won the series, but we got a little lucky & by no means did the selectors get everything right.

We have a very old team & we need to make changes over the next couple of years & this tour is a great opportunity to try some new things.

ummm why ?

they are there for literally 2 weeks.

whatever XI they play in the 1st test, they'll run with again - unless injury or an admission that we got the XI wrong in the first test.

They may not have gotten everything right but i think they did a solid job. Made the tough but correct choice with Konstas before the MCG. Probably should have pulled the trigger earlier with Webster but did it in the end.

Saying we were a little lucky is interesting. We were probably better weather away from a 4-1 series win despite losing 4 of the 5 tosses.

Tail looks bloody shaky now that Starc is an average bat

Starc
Lyon
Murphy
Kuhnemann

or if we play 2 seamers

Starc
Lyon
Boland
Kuhnemann

Don't particularly like how bad the tail is when we are prone to collapses in spinning conditions, can't really do much about it though

yeah not ideal - but at the end of the day, they get paid to take wickets.

if our top 7 do their job, it shouldn't be an issue.

only way to strengthen the batting is to play connolly at 8 as the 3rd spinner or dare i say, we play abbott.

This tour is meaningless re WTC so excellent chance to see the next gen in sub cont conditions. Konstas and Sween should definitely play the Test/Tests, Connolly possibly only white ball. I see his inclusion being to soak up the experience of hanging with the world champs on tour.

Lyon
Boland
Kuhnemann
I see three #11s. Aussie cricket badly needs a genuine slow bowling all rounder in the vein of Jadeja, Ashwin, any others? Look how many runs Lyon has left in the rooms not being able to contribute anything more than handy runs over all the time he has been our prime spinner. Warnie too tho he was a better bat.

Yep, it's not surprising though. This website is full of AFL fans who have the mentality drilled into them of constantly rejuvenating the side with youth, giving the first round draft picks opportunities early etc etc.

This was Agar's job but he couldn't bowl with the red ball

Might be Connolly's job now but he is probably more of a part timer like Head, atleast he brings something different to Lyon (and Murphy in future)

Yeah nah. They're a bit like rocking horse shit really. We seem to be doing OK without one.

I still contend you'll win more games than lose with 6 blokes that can bat well, a bloke that can wicketkeep and 4 blokes that can bowl well.

One or two of the blokes that can bat well can get through 10 - 15 overs between them and you're gold.

As long as none of the 11 are passengers a team will do well. Searching for a unicorn isn't really gunna work if you only keep finding horses with a toilet roll glued to the top of their muzzle. Sometimes you just have to stop looking, if they're there it'll be obvious.

It's not meaningless at all when the last series win in proper Asian conditions was in 2011 (excluding the roads in Pakistan).

Absolutely.

And we want to play in all conditions, and we have an obligation as a senior cricketing nation to play in other nations than the big 2.

It's a great thing, and a great tour for our players and our hosts.
