Hey Bash, EK clearly going very well so well done as not sure I can recall a promoted club doing this well.

I might just add it wasn’t really “years” of planning as it was a pretty quick turnaround of about 2-3 years. It was based on $$ and similar to the GA model. However I will say any club planning on going up to premier will need an influx of $$$ to be competitive even if you have a good junior program. THE GA model can be sustainable BUT you also need to start the process at junior level. A great example is Marby. They had success from the GA model but built a strong base as it was crumbling as juniors would go to Abers but now they choose to stay closer to home as it’s a competitive option. SO my point being if the person with the $$ leaves (and it does happen) can that club stay in a strong position??

Pats 4th year at the club and this has been his goal since day 1. Loosing the GF his first year was probably the best thing long term because our team was not equipped well enough to go up the following year, the jump in skill is too great.

Agree with what you say Turbo and from what I see at EK, Pat is putting in as much energy (or more) to the Junior program as the Seniors at the moment. He is there all day on a Sunday working his arse off and with the new facilities will hopefully attract more juniors .

I admire all Volunteers and I think the effort Pat is putting in is great, good on him. But don't under estimate all Club Presidents & committees , more so the clubs in each division that are struggling for wins and don't have the resources & $$$$$'s that other clubs have. Pat or any other President are no admirable than any other. These men and woman are putting in just as much and more but do it just to keep the club alive without the carrot of success(immediate)...
If for nothing else good on EK for injecting another A Grade Team in the mix for finals , makes a good change from knowing that only 3 teams can win it(Abers, Keilor & Mores).... Pacco have tried but keep coming up short
$$$$ and winning is EVERYTHING in this caper , you can't have one without the other....

Agree. My point was Pat seems focused on the WHOLE club as President, not just the Senior side and this is encouraging to see. YES $$$ are everything and its impossible to succeed without in EDFL without stating the obvious. Certainly not demeaning the role of all volunteers at all clubs as they are what makes them exist. The last President at EK basically lived at the club for 9 years and was instrumental in getting the current facilities via council which should hopefully help attract juniors to ensure long term sustainability.

Can confirm, His intentions are not just seniors. He spends his whole Sunday at the club with juniors too as anyone who goes to watch would see that.

Nicholl was a great president and was instrumental in the organisation of the new building with council.

The recovery facility etc though was all Pat. Players love it and it definitely is a standout compared to other clubs facilities. Hopefully attracts some juniors like someone else above said

good on Pat for the time and effort he is putting across the club hopefully he's stays around the club for many years and builds it into a destination club .If he does this will be his legacy at EK

what a great effort from Marby Park today 7 or 8 players out from last weeks game 4 debutants Coach out with COVID and come from 25 points down at 3/4 time to win by a point. Huge last 1/4 Brando Ryan EK next week a massive challenge hopefully a few get back
Roys also had about 5-6 guys not playing... Not taking anything away from Marby but seems like both teams had multiple guys missing. Pressure is mounting down at Sewell Res and with Abers this week it gets no easier!

If they were to be relagated they would take it in there stride. Overall there efforts since being promoted have been reasonable I reckon. No 18s and limited juniors doesn’t help but there trying hard.

Hi folks
I've started attending a few matches and I'm hooked on the suburban culture. Don't have a team but gees Aberfeldie were good against Keilor last week. Didn't pick that win. Anyway I've taken some video from the game (second half only) and put it on YouTube if anyone is interested. The link is below (hope it works!).
YouTube: Aberfeldie V Keilor

Had a look at the first 5 minutes of your video so far. Well done. It's come up really well. Vision sharp, not jerky, and you feel like you're right up close to the action.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I use a small HD camcorder and by the end of the game my eyes are cross-eyed from looking through the small screen. I like to video up close to the action if possible. Hopefully my technique will improve over the next few weeks. Can't wait for next Saturday!

I agree with Stax ( which is not often 😂) , great vision.

Hey Stax, there was a comment made in a previous post about jumper clashes at Strathmore v EK. I agree and have previously stated this league is behind other leagues. We should be implementing changes such as:
1. Clubs with similar colours must have an away jumper!

2. Runners should be wearing pink not green similar to umpires!!

3- Clubs should be allowed an option to have 2 runners who rotate obviously. * I guess with grounds not overly big in size it might not be needed but the game have changed.

Thoughts??

Also bit of rain overnight and grounds deteriorating already….

Been told Ek have organised clash jumpers before round 1. After the weekend vs strathmore it would of been handy to have them last week.

100% agree clash jumpers should be compulsory.

Agree with you re the clash jumpers Turbo. I couldn’t make it to the game Saturday, but from all reports it was extremely difficult for both players and spectators to distinguish between players from either team. Strathmore and EK jumpers are pretty similarly coloured in normal circumstances. In crappy conditions like Saturday it would have been nearly impossible.

Same with the runners attire. Pink or orange worth a try to avoid confusion with umpires.

No real thoughts on rotating runners.

I agree with you RE there effort, something tells me they wouldn't be overly happy about being relegated though..

Turbo I see Ben Allen from Pacco has been BOG in 3 of there 4 games this season, such an underrated player for mine. Few new players and new coaching staff setup seem to be going along under the radar at the moment. Big test against Mores on Saturday.

Will be interesting to see. When EK changed jumpers 7 or 8 years ago they wanted to go Navy with Red and Yellow V but were told in was too similar to Burnside and it would look good. Or a Red with Blue and Yellow V would be same as SA State jumper?

Re 3 Turbo - Ruppetswood in Div 1 have 2 runners rotating in the seniors, been happening all year! must be allowed??

The other thing about this league that really irks me is coaches box’s for away teams. Clubs putting them in positions that give an unequal view of the ground as some are not on the “wing” area.
I would like to see interchange on same side with entry on & off playing arena shared. Like in the AFL, VFL and most country leagues. Just my opinion but happy to be on opposite sides as long as it’s in identical spot to home club. Not in a pocket or on the 50mt mark.

Got any examples of grounds where the opposing coaches bench is not on “wing” area as you put it ?

l agree Turbo. most grounds face north /south and opposition are looking into sun at northern end on bright days. every bench should be on same side of ground. grounds like strathmore and keilor run east /west and opposition look into sun most of the day. Also noticing very liberal interchange movements. one running on when other player is still 30/40 metres from boundary. It will cause a problem one day when either player gets involved in play whilst both on ground.
