Hope they're not paying Archer and the other bloke they got back from Pacco then , wouldn't call them has beens as they never have done anything!!!!
Every div1 club would pay Archer. He will be difficult to hold out in this division. He should destroy div1 in all honesty. Not sure his a hasbeen as played at the top level. Agree he didn’t set the world on fire at Pacco but believe he was serviceable. But no idea how much he was on (nor do I care) to compare his output vs his payments?
Johncock goes ok and not a hasbeen as his a younger type. He should go well in div1.

Cmon mate. Junior players will go where they have friends at. Just because his dad is coaching GV doesn’t mean his kid should play there. It happens regularly. Let’s also remember coaches cone and go so juniors are seperate. Actually think GV junior program is well run looking in from outside. Never had any issues with there behavoir.
I’m sure there President or commitee speak to parents prior to season as there crowd is genuinely well behaved.
POINT TAKEN MATE . Never insinuated that the GV crowds were not behaved. Others l have had issues with over last 10 years.

He’s a junior mate, his eldest son is coaching U18s in Cairns.

Realise that, there was discussion on kids going from lower levels to play in div 1 sides to get noticed. Bewick knows the system. Hence why I raised his kid moving clubs.

Caught Keilor's practice match against South Croydon yesterday. As near as I could tell Keilor were without 14 premiership players and cruised to a 9 goal win. There's only 2 of the 14 who aren't available for Round 1 so it was an impressive performance. I am not aware of South Croydon's player availability so they may have been in a similar situation.

EDS facebook seems to indicate they won by 6 goals on Saturday against Deer Park. Is the premiership streak over for DP? Does EDS have the metal for the H&A season? Are these 2 playing another practice game this weekend?

NFL forum reporting Dempsey from GV snapped his pelvis during practice match. If true not good news for him or GV. Hasn’t had much luck at metro level. Wish him a speedy recovery!

Not great - particularly on the back of Maric also getting hurt and minimal reinforcements coming in.

Snapped pelvis, you would have to think that could be the end of his career, but that depends on the actual site of the injury.

He tried to walk and collapsed near the Bundoora bench. Was stretchered off and then an ambulance was called.

Looked like he was in a lot of pain. All the best and hopefully the outcome is better then it looked!

When is the EDFL going to go more professional. Coaching benches should be on the same side of the ground with interchange area in the middle. That’s what most other leagues do and it’s used in finals and higher level footy. EDFL needs to become more professional..

They were always separated to avoid scuffles from the coaches boxes coming together.. Probably an issue of yesteryear when that sort of violence was commonplace.

Yes mate understand that to be the reason but things need to move forward and as per usual the EDFL just stands still.

In terms of issues with the EDFL, i would have this as a long way down the priority list so is interesting its even been raised, let alone so passionately by Turbs

The most important issue is going to be the lack of umpires, as the numbers have dropped dramatically.

You have to be kidding dont you? who maintains the grounds, councils! im sure they will move all the boxes just to make the EDFL more professional, not one of your smartest comments Turbo

Wonder why with all the abuse and sh&& they cop from nuffy parents and some officals who have limited knowledge of the game. An idea for clubs should be to get some of these nuffy parents to umpire a practice match or intra club to feel the experience and they might learn something..

Oh no not the shit cheap visitors coaching benches. I just think the league needs to get more professional. The grounds are some of the worst in the state which attributes to a drop in standard and congested footy.

I will address both posts in this one. Umpires, yes they cop shit and most times they do a great job, however; there are times when they make decisions that just confound people. When your team is on the receiving end of bad decision after bad decision it frustrates you. A decision should be made to include a penalty the edfl can implement where they can enforce players instead of a weeks suspension to umpire a game or two. Clubs could do the same thing with parents that get out of hand. That way they can see what the umpires go through.
As for the grounds, yes some are the worst of all competitions in Melbourne.

Amazing, so get suspended blokes and abusive parents to umpire?

Probably a Covid casualty with after a year off many umps weighing up if the $100 they earn is really worth standing in the rain having abuse hurled at them, also well respected former AFL umpiring boss Rowan Sawres who was in charge of the EDFL umps retired which may have impacted on numbers returning.

On top of this the VFL & AFLW expansion have required additional umpires so they take the better younger umpires each year wanting to advance leaving local leagues short.

And it seems the league is doing nothing to fix it, they have lost the whole structure in the office which was set up to build and grow umpire numbers and now they have been given a pay cut "due to clubs cant afford the umpires wages". The numbers are only going to drop, in both Seniors and Juniors. Sounds like they might have to revert to club umpires in some games.

They have lost the whole senior coaching group, and the main members of the junior coaching group.

Difficult times ahead
