Can someone correct me , but Im sure I posted on this forum 12 or 18 months ago that Oswald and or Lynch will depart for better offers...You all disagreed , I know Im a bit late but have just been made aware that Oswald is on the move!!!!

You posted it 12 or 18 months ago? Both are premiership players now.

As mentioned previously Shooter could only play every second week due to his new job and travel impacting his ability to get to training.

Pretty hard in Premier these days to play senior footy if you can't train - doesn't matter how good a player or bloke you are.

Other than that all is well at Abers!

So you're posting to pat yourself on the back?
Awesome stuff........

I was just stating that back then I said they were not going to be there for the long haul and everyone shot me down..I was just stating the truth and Im sure that you say it got hard and he could only play every 2nd week Im sure he didn't ask for his wage to be cut????????

Realistically, who really cares?
Oswald was recruited to help win Abers an elusive flag, safe to say that it worked out well in that regard.

Hey Puff, are you expecting Abers to be dominant again this season or will Abers come back to the pack, and the season will be more even?
Will Abers play more juniors that have just come up to senior footy. I'm not saying this in a negative way, just your 18s won the premiership so do you expect a younger Abers team in 2016!

What's your practice match schedule?

Truth is - Shooter left as he couldn't commit (actually trained all pre Xmas prior to new job).

On the other hand the comp medal winner from last year is still at the club and training the house.

You don't state the facts but simply stir up crap champ!

I'd say everyone has been more active in the recruiting game than us this year.

We've lost some quality from our premiership team and we've introduced some great talent including a few of our talented juniors returning from the VFL.

It'll be a great year of footy - comp is stronger again it looks like.

The Under 19 comp in the VAFA hasn't helped our numbers for a thirds team however we're keen to persist with it.

Pacco flying???

Cheers Puff,

The thirds comp is really a waste of time IMO. Yes clubs that have a side make some extra cash, but wasn't some games cancelled or in some cases abandoned at half time because players didn't want to keep going. I'm not referring to anything untoward just they didn't feel like chasing opposition players any longer.

Pacco running along alright at the moment. They are hoping to improve again and should be up there challenging. A recent article is up on the newspaper web site.

Read the article on Deer Park poaching junior talent with $$ incentives. Very sad footy is going this way. Not a good situation and it will get messy. Bet it happens in the EDFL in a few years and it will create some hostility between clubs. I hope it doesn't but I'm guessing the AFL vic don't do anything about it. Not enough thought put into this points system.

what a load of crap saying its a waste of time. clubs make next to no money from this its to give everyone a game and bloke who would otherwise just walk away get to still be involved in clubs and creates extra good atmosphere around clubs that have a team in the 3rds

3rds comp has only been going 1 year but everyone I speak to is really positive about it. It will take a few years to really get going but it has kept a lot of boys playing footy, so that can only be a good thing. It is good for guys who would otherwise be at the tab or sinking beers on the sideline to have a kick, but it is also really good for blokes trying to break into reserves to play every week.

Well said and in most cases the 6 sides would've run at a loss each week but it provides an open age avenue for those previously lost to the game who can't make the commitment or don't want to take themselves too seriously or like many of the sides last year an introduction for a few "green" mature age players keen to try Aussie Rules.

We should all support it and spread the word. We'd welcome anyone who'd be keen on having a kick with good blokes and be part of a good community sports club.

Whether it's Doutta's, Abers, Hillside and others poaching talented players as young as 14 or 15 from smaller clubs with promises of "better development" or $$$ or whatever it's something that happens already and is a disgrace, just another blight on "local community footy" fueled by middle aged wanna be's who were never good enough when they played trying to get some footy glory in the hope they can get a mounted sherrin signed by 22 x 15/16yo on their mantle piece at home. These same squibs have no idea of "club loyalty" and will desert a club without hesitation if things don't go their own selfish way

The EDFL don't help. I know its a different argument, but trying to grow the EDFL in a already crowded area with teams affects clubs. Northern Saints and now Haddy are affected with the loss of players, not just senior players but 2's players and 18's....Saints seem to have recovered but hear Haddy is doing it a little tough. Points system not addressing hard enough the issues of local footy with players and money. How can you build stable clubs when player retention and movement is based on money and the promise "better" development elswhere. What's happened to good local footy values. Who says the values at Abers and Doutta's is better than Haddy or Northern? Just an example only people, but it's rife in this comp...Players are actually swade by this... Just my 2 bob.

Hey Joey,
I kind of agree with your views in most part but I know from experience that some clubs create there own issues from juniors up and often these memories will stay with kids for ever. It starts at the bottom levels. Some clubs appoint total idiots as coaches and then the team and supporters get out of control. Yes maybe they can't get coaches or they don't have enough courage to get rid of families, no matter how talented there kids are.
Set a good environment from 10s up and your club will see players slowly come through your doors.
If you can't get coaches to volunteer then maybe offer a "good" coach a free family membership and the odd ticket to a function here & there. They are around, its a matter of finding and enticing them.
I'm not directing this at any club as I'm sure we all have our stories and experienced something. But the strong clubs make a stand and make courageous decisions for the better of the CLUB long term.

Here's a thought. Pay a good senior player a few extra dollars to coach a junior side. It's great for the kids development, he will be neutral as has no family members, among other things. Yes it's back to the almighty $$ but it's kept inside the club and is an investment for the future.

For the record I have been previously involved in junior footy with the EDFL. If I see a player, parent or whoever doing the wrong thing I will deal it immediately. Not do as some club people say, oh I didn't see it!!, oh he wouldn't do that!! If your runner, assistant, team manager or coach don't see things well they are not doing there job and taking the easy option. Probably know about it but either promote it or are weak individuals. Grow some ba@@@ and stand up!!

The good clubs weed out the rubbish not accept it as part of there club history, reputation etc. It's 2016 now..

Anyway that's my rant over but I'm passionate about junior footy being played and run by good decent people, who you can talk to and maybe create some relationships with. Not total idiots!

PS: I haven't mentioned any clubs in my post above..

-Any news on how big McIntosh is travelling at Strathmore?
-Will he play round 1 v Keilor?
-Couple of good match ups in
Browne/Putt (K) v McIntosh/Tighe (S)
Galea (K) V Mangan (S)

That's worth attending the game to see.

I hope the Keilor Village fish & chip shop has been notified to order plenty of fish. They will make a killing..
Or will the Keilor BBQ be grilling some fish?

Fish & Chips, couple of bets at the tab, and then on the frothies. Lol

Turbs,
You are aware "certain clubs" are making massive changes for the better. You may be surprised as to the extent of those changes. Somehow though, perhaps a number of people may not really appreciate or want to appreciate those changes but still live in the past harbouring bad feelings/memories (as you say) from past injustices and bad behaviour. I am sure you aren't one of those people Turbs, you look to the present and future, not to the good ol/bad ol days.... :)
What do you think about those changes Turbs that "certain clubs" are making. Good, bad, indifferent?

I think you will find most of the pressure comes from the TAC youth side coaches who encourage kids to play at A grade clubs to help there development.
