Craigieburn may have to play some younger 19's but I'm not sure that is a good idea. Not sure they would be up to it. They would have had one boy but he is at the Cannons, he may play some games throughout the year for them but as for the rest not sure they would be up to it. The boys would get hurt with the pace and strength of the senior players from the other teams.
As for a combined team between GV and Craigieburn, its not a bad idea but which jumper would they wear. If they don't then there will be 4 byes for the other teams through the season.
EDFL have some issues to worry about.

Cannot believe how the tipsters have dropped off Abers - be very aware they have had quality juniors who will get game time this year and mixed in with the senior players they have kept I still have them playing finals.
Big wraps on EDS but jury still out as they have no recognised ruckman and are any of the recruits over 6"3? Round 1 v Keilor might tell us where they are at.

Hey Mel, don't agree entirely as if younger guys are playing ones and they are coping hidings each week it won't be good. They will need to be top end talent to survive in premier at 18-19 years of age.
On the flip side I'm all for playing some younger guys but they must deserve & warrant their spot, not be given a game purely on the quality of players available.

I really hope CB can compete and stay competitive otherwise can't imagine to many people getting along to games out there or away games.

Why couldn't they attract a high profile coach they were after?? Something doesn't seem right to me Mel..

At the end if the day they will probably be left with no option but to play those young ones and really it's probably only going to be 4 or 5. Possibly a year too early, but it's a great opportunity for them to gain some valuable experience. I don't subscribe to the theory about playing against older blokes having watched plenty of kids doing just that and doing well. Granted though Premier will be much quicker and harder than div 2.

The coaching debate has been done to death. Should've signed Pete back up half way through last season and they most likely retain the bulk of the players who I think may have been capable of winning enough games to stay up.

Is Keilor playing a practice match today? If so what time?

Keilor Vs Sunbury Kangaroos at Keilor Park Sports Ground. Stadium Dr Keilor Park.

18s @ 9am
Res @ 11am
Seniors @ 1

I watched a couple of qtrs of this match today. Keilor obviously too good. Mick was still hard on skills execution and thought the boys looked very fit and hard at it. Cavka looked great and extremely fit!. Galea looked like he was going up a level with his attack in the ball.
They will play very deep into finals

Cheers mate. Hard to gauge as the opposition would be equivalent to bottom of half of EDFL div1 and maybe even div2 standard.. Good for a run around though.

Must agree, I thought Cavca looked very fit, has polished skills and maybe early crowe however I feel the AFL may not have passsed him by and think he may get another chance if stays healthy and on the park. Was very impressed with Keilor's run and carry and ball movement from down back and also yes Galea's attack on the ball and marking skills were outstanding.

Galea class above , Cavka class above - Blues will finish top 3 regardless of the departures..

Crazyburn & West Coburg to fight it out for Relegation

Let's see if Doutta's can handle the pressure of expectation in what will be Wally's last year.

Pacco - Anything less than a finals victory and they might as well close the door, spent truck loads over the past few years to walk away from the 1st final disappointed. I'd like to see some success there for the old time supporters

Avondale - Who knows but enough quality to compete and win enough to not worry about relegation

Marby - There's a few talking them up, but again if you're not playing finals then you're just making up the numbers. If they don't make finals then 2017 is a failure - no excuses this year!

Abers - I don't rate Potter and that was clearly justified in the last 6 weeks of the season 2016. He was humiliated by Mighty Mick. So with Departures at Abers, Potter has his chance to prove me wrong and actually produce something as a coach(without the best list in the comp), top 3 or Abers looking for a new coach.. Looking at the club , best list for the last 4 years and only 1 flag = FAILED

Mores - Would want to finish top 2

Jets - Interesting to see how the new coach goes, juries out but they have been so consistent for so long

WOW.......EDFL Raises Under 19 Age Group to Under 19.5 for 2017

Now how does this impact the Reserves at some clubs?

Depending on the size of the club - yes.

I think at the bigger clubs who are wanting thirds side it may impact them as the kids who didn't want to commit to reserves and just play in the "clubbies" are now eligible to play another year again in the now "under 19.5s"

Hello Gents
Probably once a fortnight reader, first time poster here.

Was reading up on the last couple of weeks posts and saw the one about preseason list evaluation.
I pop down every now and watch Marby play as I'm a local and watch the boys run around and am very close with a few of the people that run the back of house stuff and ex players

From what I can gather from the boys chatter about preseason and the EDFL clearances website is

IN: Kokkinakis, Keogh, Martinello, Baravi, Saad and you may as well add Marcus White to that list as he's only managed 2 games in 2 years but is a quality footballer and they're probably it as your "1s" recruits. (Feel as though Saad may be stretch though)
Plus an array of players who it's are too unknown (well to us anyway, I'm sure coaching staff have an idea of their 22) which will only strengthen the 2s ultimately helping the club move forward - I believe the seconds had 10 wins last year?

OUTS: T. Lee and I'm unaware of any other MASSIVE out's

Unfortunately, I don't enough about the 18s to report anything on that front.

The club are confident of playing finals and will be disappointed with anything less.
They've gone from 2 and 1/2 wins to 7 to last year 10 and with the general age of the list being under 25 they're confident in more natural improvement as well as targeting the areas they felt they slackened in last year (forward/mid).

Haven't gotten down to preseason to watch yet but from what I'm hearing the vibe is up and numbers are soaring.
Coaching staff believe they have a solid 30-32 players who could be playing ones football.
Castello really has done a marvelous job since taking over and the playing group really responds to him.

Anyway, I probably won't be on here again for another couple of weeks but look forward to catching up on everything then.

Cheers.

Left out another big in for Marby this year - Nick Linton - VFL listed last season
Midfield is shaping up very well for the Marby

His ex Strathmore junior so worth high points and guessing he is asking for reasonable coin as well. How do you think he will go, as played mostly reserves with Coburg mate..Not convinced his an elite EDFL midfielder..

Played 14 games last year in the 1s down at Coburg last year from what the internet tells you.
In saying that agree that he won't be "elite"
But he will be more than solid, no doubt about that..

Just meant it more in as they've now recruited 3 solid mids (Keogh/Martinello/Linton) as well as what they had.

Looks to be big impact on abers/kelior with a lot of elite talent moving on to seniors
Kelior ( curmi, bonello , anotvski)
Abers( stone , rasinac , hickmomt)
With much of preseason over though will top age 19s want to play 19s after training with seniors.Numbers being a big issue at abers especially after departure of key premiership players in neicho MacDonald davey barba Robinson????

Potter taking side to finals in recent years would have to mean soemthing in terms of an extended contract ??

How is it a failure for Marby if they don't make finals? Because 'know it alls ' on here talk up their chances? They're still a very young side.

Playing at Marby to play with his brother and Marby has been his feeder club for 4 years.

Sporting pulse tells me he has played predominantly senior footy for the past three years (has had injuries past two) so i would say he will be a very handy addition to Marby's side.

So will be a 5 pointer if his played a certain number of senior vfl games..
