Francis is basically a Goddard clone in every way. Good intercept mark. Great kick. Big bodied. Competitive as all hell. Will turn out to be a midfielder.

Lacks midfield ability big time. He has no idea where to position himself around stoppages, where to run and how to read the tap.

Tend to agree. In general play I think he's fine, but at stoppages he's very reliant on the lads around him winning the ball.

But given his size & skills, it's possible that after a couple of seasons playing as a defender he could gradually move into the centre. It'd be a learning curve but I think he's capable of eventually figuring it out.

Weidemans also already well over 90 kegs himself. Im not sure he really needs that much body development he has the frame that will get him to 100kg + no worries and id say wed be able to add kilos on him pretty quick just depends how big we want to make him if we draft him.

Hes a really nice size and a guy thata a really good kick at goal might be exactly whats required to go with Daniher who i think will have no problem finding the pill but whether he can kick them will be the question.

I think we already have our Curnow in Langford. Whether we can have 2? Im unsure

A future forward line of 200cm Daniher deep as the relieving ruck, with a leading strong duked, accurate kick for goal 30 out 196cm Weideman and a 192? Mobile can play almost as a leadup key forward Langford is a pretty ideal forward setup.

Ceglar/Hale - Daniher
Roughead - Weideman
Gunston - Langford

Sinclair - Daniher
Kennedy - Weideman
Darling - Langford

Weidemann is not a good kick for goal - that's one of his knocks

In terms of talent for me it'd be:

1. Weitering
2. Francis
3. Schache
4. Mills
5. Hopper
6. Kennedy
7. Curnow
8. Milera
9. Parish
10. Oliver

Also I have a feeling that Melbourne want a long term partner for Hogan. They have plenty of quality in the midfield and you can piece together a backline later so that's my gut instinct. They think that Essendon will take the forward they want.

I could be completely wrong of course, but let me ask some draft peoples here. If Parish and Francis are available as well as one of Curnow or Weiderman, would you take the mid and flanker?

Big ask though, if he had the midfield game he'd go 1. He'd be what everyone thought Gibbs was going to be in 06, which is basically the ultimate footballer. It'd be great for him and for whoever gets him if he does make that transition but you could definitely argue he'd be most effective if he's the one receiving the clearance rather than winning it.

I know I'd rather have Howlett and Bird ferreting the ball out the back for Francis to zing it forward with laser precision than have Francis in and under trying to get the handball out to Howlett and Bird.

They traded up for Parish. Pure and simple.

Best available means Francis and parish for mine.

Comparing Jack watts to Aaron Francis is like comparing Indecent Obsession to ACDC or Jordan McMahon to Mark Ricciuto.

Watts was a soft forward who took all his marks on the lead in space with very little physical contact. A soft Brighton grammar boy. Francis is a competitive beast who holds no fear for his safety, back into packs, flys for marks and takes the hits. Francis is AFL ready immediately.

Certainly. And you're right that it's a big ask, but I just think given how competitive he is along with his size, that he's capable of doing that job to some extent as well. You'd definitely rather that he be the one using the ball on the outside, but if that's all his midfield input is, then it'll be easier for opposition teams to tag him out of a game.

This is all an elongated way of me saying I want him.

You know he spent a fair chunk of his time in the Champs in the midfield right? They wouldn't play him there if he didn't have the ability.

Yes and he looked out of place around stoppages, relying on others to feed him the ball so that he could do some damage. If you can't generate your own ball then it's going to be difficult playing an inside mid role at AFL level. He's a natural defender with elite rebounding skills, leave him there.

Fair enough, he'll probably learn how to use is body, etc. in the VFL if we got him. Either way his versatility is at the point where we could put him at either end and be confident he'd come up with the goods.

Problem is that it will take 2-3 years of development before he is ready to be able to be apart of a midfield group at AFL level. I wouldn't be taking him at 4/5 with the intention of making him a full time midfielder. 3rd tall defender that can pinch hit in the midfield and up forward would be his ideal role.

The style of player he is why would you want him to be an inside mid? It wouldn't make sense for mine. To me if he get's thrown into the middle he will play the quarterback role with his good decision making/skills.
