Francis similar to Goddard/Gibbs with much better agility and explosiviness. As a midfielder hed play a similar role to these guys probably best suited as a quarterback type, from there he will drift forward and back at his own will.

I still have my concerns. Will he develop an AFL engine? He isnt big enough to be a key tall or back. Are we happy to spend such a high pick on a 3rd tall then? Doesnt he have the same characteristics as Lachie Plowman? Probably yes.

I think taking both Curnow and Francis is silly. Both could end up being undersized forward/defenders and not have the midfield ability whether its nous and endurance on Francis or nous and skill with Curnow.

I think we're preferring Weideman as he provides another aerial presence with Daniher, which is more beneficial to Joe as it means he won't be getting double or triple teamed. Curnow's style can create more space for Daniher to lead into, but our smaller blokes should be doing that anyway.

Like with Francis, I don't believe Curnow will be able to become a full time midfielder. They both lack the nous required around stoppages.
I think we're better off with a ruckman deep, JD at CHF and a 3rd tall which will give us enough aerial power while not compromising too much on mobility. I'm also happy to sacrifice a 3rd tall forward and play Edwards and Goddard forward with Watson, Laverde and Langford rotating through there as 190cm mids. Which is why I want Francis and Curnow now. Curnow can play mostly VFL next year while we have that cover up forward and Francis can play back. If Francis is good enough and Gwilt goes OK then it can also be an opportunity to swing Hurley or Hooker forward on occasion too.

I only want those two swung forward for a specific reason. Hurls is not to play power forward. We send Hooker forward if we need someone to Clunk a few deep. We send Hurley forward if we need someone to have a physical presence AND get on their bike from half forward.

Also if Daniher is being double teamed, which he won't for a while because most experienced KPDs out body him quite easily, then we send him super deep, dragging them with him and hit up our medium forwards.

Even if Francis is a defender (only), he seems to project as a top player.

With our lack of 3rd tall defenders in recent history, don't mind it at all actually.

If he can move into the midfield rotation, great! If not, so be it.

Would be happy with Francis an one of Curnow or Weidemann (if Parish isgone of course)

Comparing Jack watts to Aaron Francis is like comparing Indecent Obsession to ACDC or Jordan McMahon to Mark Ricciuto.

Watts was a soft forward who took all his marks on the lead in space with very little physical contact. A soft Brighton grammar boy. Francis is a competitive beast who holds no fear for his safety, back into packs, flys for marks and takes the hits. Francis is AFL ready immediately.
Not true.

I recall Goddard saying on AFL 360 how the first kick from defense is often the most important in the modern game. Even if Francis develops into 'only a 3rd tall defender', it still might be a good result. He has intercept marking, can play tall and small and has elite kicking skills so he can win the ball and set up our scoring runs with his long dangerous kicking for the next 10+ years. Francis could even be a medium sized swing man, go forward and have an impact - he kicked 4.5 in one carnival game IIRC.

They traded up for Parish. Pure and simple.

It cuts one of two ways, either that way, or they've traded up for a specific tall, and are potentially now armed with the knowledge of who the suns want.
If you accept that Weitering and Schache are the top two in some combo, then Parish at 3 probably means the leftover key forward at 7 if they're that way inclined. Their choice of Curnow/Wiedeman at 3 means we have to leave the one they don't pick + Parish and Francis behind, GC probably still stick to their guns and Melbourne are left to pick up either Parish/Francis/Wiedeman anyway.

I think the 2nd scenario works better for the dees, but they obviously both work.

His physique looks like NOB's at the moment. But if he fills out, he'll be an absolute animal in the center. I'm set on Francis and Curnow for our early picks so no to Oliver.
