With our track record of "Could of have picked up........." i dont find this funny at all.
well given how adaaaam has been such a raging success why wouldn't we?
cos its a rookie spot.... hardly complain if doesn't come off.
Try cracking the joke on the Dees board.C4 is best to fill you in on that.
You know what's funny?? They could have picked up Darling!!
I hope we don't pick up Mitch Banner.....over getting spuds from Port!
I agree. but clearly the club is looking for another small forward. maric didnt come off so the next candidate must be banner i suppose. wasnt milne off the rookie list?fair enough. although perhaps better to point to the nathan foleys and dean cox's of the world when discussing the merits of the rookie list.
Have heard this too, it's simply because GCS want more than just a first round pick and we don't have anything else to offer them.
Boak isn't coming to us either, his asking price is much higher than we are prepared to give.

Not trying to blow my own trumpet here, but the C4 post about Cook was quoted from me about him and Gysberts both having a fall out
This is his review from the Port website from when he was drafted. I remember during his draft he was one a lot of Tiger fans were considering a 2nd or 3rd round pick for us (ended up going 42).
Date of birth: 5/6/90
Height: 179cm
Weight: 79kg
Club: Western Jets
Bio: A small midfielder who wins his own ball, Mitchell Banner has good disposal by hand and foot. He is a high possession winner who is good overhead for his size. Banner was a Vic Metro Under-18 representative in 2008, and hails from Werribee Junior FC.
PortAdelaideFC.com.au exclusive insight
What would you rate as the strengths of your game?
My skills on both feet, over head marking and my ability to run games out.
Do you currently play or have played any other sports? If so, at what level?
I played in representative sides for cricket and also a bit of basketball.
Who has been the biggest influence on your career and why?
My dad. He was the one who got me into footy and he’s been there to support me since the start of my career.
What do you hope to be in five years time?
An AFL footballer.
If you had to describe the Port Adelaide Football Club what would you say?
Port Adelaide is a very traditional, proud and competitive football club. I’m a big Port fan and I’d love to be able to play for them.
Jason McCartney says: Mitch went head to head with Daniel Rich in the final of the under-18s and played a really good game. Rich was pretty good as well, there's no doubt about that, but what I liked about Mitch in that game was that he wasn't over-awed by playing on a really good quality player. He went out and won a bit of the footy himself in that game.
There had been a bit of a question mark over his disposal, but he's worked really hard at it and you could see how that has improved over the course of the year.
Stats:
NAB AFL Under 18 Championships
Team Mt K HB D M HO T G
Vic Metro 5 14.2 4.2 18.4 3.4 0.0 1.8 0.8
This is also from the Port board (thanks to Macca, great write up )
Mitch had another interesting year in 2011, dominating at SANFL level and showing enough at AFL level to suggest he can have a future at the highest level.
His SANFL form was fantastic all year, averaging over 25 disposals a game playing through the midfield with stints on a forward flank. He impressed with his ability to find the football and use it well going forward, making the best players in 5 of his 9 matches with the Magpies. He played one match at AFL level early in the season, coming on as a sub against North Melbourne but unable to make an impact.
After a great run of form which saw him make the best players 4 weeks in a row, Mitch was promoted to the AFL side against St Kilda in Round 16. He would stay at AFL level for the rest of the year and impressed with his goal sense and ability to find the football across the half forward line. He was excellent against Melbourne with 18 disposals and 3 goals, and made the best players three weeks in a row from Round 20-22. His best games for the year came against Collingwood, picking up 21 disposals and 2 goals in the huge loss, whilst also picking up 24 disposals, 10 marks and 3 goals against the Bulldogs two weeks later.
There is still plenty that Mitch needs to improve to become a regular contributor at AFL level, but the base talent is there to work with. He must improve his defensive side of his game and he needs to find a yard of pace, but he has a natural ability to find a lot of the football and has plenty of nous around goals, making him an interesting prospect as a midfielder who can rest forward successfully. A strong pre season should see Mitch become a regular in 2012.

Before this thread degenerates into another Conca vs Heppell vs Caddy ..........
Happy with Knights & Chaplin talks. We have no real chance for Boak, Cloke, Goddard, etc. but no harm in asking. I get the risk with Toy and have no problems with the club making the call either way on him. The talk of Banner, Pettard and other clubs spuds has me worried. I know Dimma wants to fill the Rookie list with ready to go mature players, but Banner & Pettard and others mentioned are not AFL footballers. We spent so much effort trying to get of our spuds out the front door, only then to let other duds in the back door.
We still desperately need 2 or 3 decent back up rucks. Gus Browne & Derickx are not good enough. The club have stated they are after rucks but I haven't heard who they are targeting.
One thing I am happy to share generally, as it was not something I think I knew, is that any delisted player can be contracted directly by any club, irrespective of age, as a free agent.
Blair paid particular attention to this, as that's what would have happened with John McCarthy last year had the current rules been in place.
So let's watch those delistings.
Interesting. Although, surely we're getting to the point where other clubs discards aren't going to be a significant upgrade on our own bottom tier players? One thing I am happy to share generally, as it was not something I think I knew, is that any delisted player can be contracted directly by any club, irrespective of age, as a free agent.

I agree i reckon Pettard mite be worth a shot..could be a very handy player for us ..I disagree I think pettard can play. Banner i am not interested in...
Just had that breakfast Blair Hartley addressed.
PM me for, selected, details. Non Richmond posters, don't bother.
No bombshells, but good confirmations, both ways (yes/no)
Impressive guy.
