Top shelf non troll analysis
They never had a true 8 point lead either. It was 5 points when the games were evened up.
Doesn't suit that narrative though.
Sure Jan GIF

For the record, I really have no history of trolling. I just call it as I see it. They capitulated when they were in a very winnable position.

I'll come back to this post at the end of the season. They were only on track to win because they had the best start to a season ever if I remember correctly.
84 points isn't a capitulated season

Jatz you been on the koolaid lately mate? Some bizarre stuff coming from you for a while now.

I don't think we bottled it last season. Nobody expected us to be there at the start of the season, we performed well above expectations, and fell short right near the end, yet still finished ahead of where everyone - including our own fanbase - thought we would finish.

Arsenal had 1 bad spell for the season and it last 3 games. That's it. That's all it took for City to strike.

Yep, they are relentless and ruthless.

Though, we are giving ourselves a good reputation to have those qualities with how well we have been doing.

Let me get this straight.
Just want to be clear.

In the Leicester season, similarly as you state for yourselves last season not being expected nor were we that year, we were bottle jobs finishing 3rd in a 2nd horse race.

The games at West Ham and Chelsea used as games where we "bottled" the title. The only North London club to hit the top of the table that season was Arsenal funnily enough.

Yet 22/23 where the gunners were top for 93% of the season isn't bottling it.

Makes so much sense.

No one has suggested that?
Got my wires crossed, sorry.

Not sure what Spurs season has to do with this? I don't know if I ever said they bottled it (may have, don't genuinely remember)/

Sure, I'll post it again for you.

Not necessarily you personally, who can remember. But collectively that was and is still the sentiment.
It doesn't add up.

But we weren't talking about the start of the season.

We were talking about when you had a 5 point lead in April and then went and drew 3 games in a row, all from winning positions and one against the side in 20th.

You're looking at it holistically, rather than the chance you actually had to win the title and squandered.

I don't think that is bottling it when you consider how strong City at the turn of every year. It is almost an impossible task to win against a side that won 15 (?) straight games in the league.

You need everything to go your way.

See you're reflecting on City again, rather than how Arsenal ultimately threw it away themselves.

The whole point of the conversation is Arsenal. You were 2-0 up at Anfield and drew. You were 2-0 up against West Ham (and missed a penalty to go 3-0 up) and drew. You drew 2-2 with Southampton, who finished on 25 points for the season.

I would very much hope your players/manager don't have the mentality you lot do. If City are so untouchable, may as well just give up before each season.

I guess its bottling to some and not to others. IMO you did last season as you had it in your hands late on but fumbled it.

Each to their own.
It was a bottle job but it didn't have viral moment that really cemented it in everyone's mind like Gerrard's slip, Fergie's face when hearing news of Aguero's goal, the Stamford Bridge fights(we only bottled 2nd place that season though)

I often rewatch the Fergie one. Sunderland fans cheering as City score being how they find out will forever be amusing

My favourite bottle job with viral moment is Newcastle giving up a 12 point lead to lose the title to Man U, accompanied by Kevin Keegan's rant.

Rafael Benitez had his own “I will love it.” moment.

Depends on the definition of 'bottling it' but in the title run-in when you surrender 2 x 2 goal leads it's at least a case of pressure impacting performance/ability to close out matches.

But on the basis of stats Arsenal seemed to get a lot of lucky results last season where they didn't create much/play well and won - whereas this season again on the basis of stats they seem to create alot.

So last season as a casual observer the expectation was that they would drop points because unconvincing victories can only last so long before your luck runs out and you drop points.

So maybe they didn't bottle it. Maybe it was just a flattering points tally last season where points total outweighed performance nearing the end of the season.

The second half of their season has been immense, but I would say their first half of their season fitted into that mould of scraping through with unconvincing wins. They had a slump in December which I predicted would last a bit longer, but they've been unstoppable since January.

moomba has definitely bookmarked this one.
Might have watched it once or twice.

To be fair, we weren't too far from the bottle job of the century only a few minutes before that.
