I wouldn't be too disappointed paying 2 x firsts for Dunkley with a 2nd coming back. We've done extremely well this trade period so take a loss for something we really need. There's a good chance is that he's not available next year either doing a Papley and staying or a Daniher and changing the team he wants to go to. Rumours for Merrett being left out of the leadership group was the players didn't vote him in as he was too demanding. Dunkley is a professional like Merrett so with a new coach in, the standards should be lifted and it should start with the leadership group. Merrett and Dunkley should form a major part of that group. Pay it, get him in and have the nett outcome of this period being Dunkley, Wright, Caldwell in for Daniher, Saad and Fantasia.

And Shane Woewodin won a brownlow.

16 rounds of footy ain't worth 2 x 1st round picks.

Was Woewodin being played in the ruck the year after?

Band 1 compo for Daniher ✅

Pick 8 for Saad ✅

Land Caldwell ✅

Land Wright ✅

Sweet deal for Fantasia ✅

Land Dunkley ❌

5/6, not bad. And got three Top 10 picks this year.

Pass for Adrian.

Essendon won the period. Traded out players who didn't want to be there and got great value. Caldwell was good value. Saad was good value. Hind good value. Got absolute overs on Fantasia and were compensated very nicely for Daniher. Probs land Dunkley next year anyway but stuck fat and now have 3 top 10 picks. Dodoro did sensationally.

You my friend, must be the most positive poster on BigFooty. Not only did you just say Dodoro did sensationally, you’re also putting a positive spin on Collingwood’s efforts.

Kudos for being a bright light in the sea of sewage that is most of the posts on this forum.

Solid B.
Dunkley was worth a couple of top 10s with a 2nd back next year.
Dogs played the period nicely.

I hadn't followed Caldwell much so keen to see how he goes with us. Opportunity aplenty
Wright was necessary & a good age profile.

Nah, he wasn't. The club made a good offer and did the right thing walking away.

Players that are multiple AAs or best and fairest winners are worth two top 10's. Dunkley hasn't done either.

he's 23 though.
And at 22 had an AA squad nomination off a run of games that were exactly what we need.
we'd have been getting those AA years from him.

but im cool with the 3 picks (just take reid, o'driscoll and perkins :p )

I honestly believe Dodoro did sensationally with the hand he was dealt. Also, for all the flack he is given for being hard to deal with, Sam Power and Stephen Wells would have to be up there as well.

Life is too short to be negative as well

Surely you'd try and trade up and get O'Driscoll and McDonald as they played at the same club.

I agree. One of the best results seen in the trade period.

You can be annoyed with Dodoro, but he always acts in the best interests of his club.

The receive a fantastic haul for the players leaving, with each deal being overs.

Got Caldwell for the right cost, and didn't blink on the Dunkley deal.

It's a pass. But that's it. I'm glad we got 3x top 10 picks, and with the list sizes being the way they are I really hope we trade two of them to get to pick 2 as that's probably the best strategy for me.

im in the camp of not dropping 2 eggs in the one KP basket when it comes to drafting.
If it was Dunkley, sure.

We have Stewart, Hooker, Stringer & Wright for now
Jones was brought in last year (who Dodoro rated top 10 ;) ) & we'll get Eyre as an NGA. Add to that Bryan (who is more ruck, but will need a 2nd role and i think fwd is his bag when not rucking...not entirely sure)

With that all said, we have apparently been talking to McDonald.
So i wouldn't be surprised if it's O'Driscoll & McDonald.

No matter how you look at it three top eight picks and Caldwell is a great start to a rebuild. Got Wright for nothing and he’ll either be an 8 year KPP or a mature aged battering ram for a few years, both of which are essential for a rebuild.

I like Dunkley but they would’ve had to overpay for him, they’re probably better off building through the draft for a few years.

Given how many players wanted out they’ve put themselves in a good position to launch a rebuild.

Was very respectful to Dogs too.

It's a solid trade period, Dunkley for what was offered would have been a very good outcome, but for 2 x Top-10's would have seriously compromised our ability to fill the list.

I'd hope we're looking to make some moves here with our picks to move some currency in to next year given we might only have 4 list spots and there's 2 x NGA players already.

or go delist happy.
might be too late to rescind the Gleeson offer. but Laverde, Phillips, Townsend & Gleeson could free us up to split picks, throw some darts in the top 20 and see what lands over the next 2-3 years.

How many of the 4 do we expect to see make it through to 2022?

I don't think we can rescind the Gleeson offer, it was tied in to his contract so he'd have to refuse it (or have asked for a trade).

I'd think Laverde would also be retained. Townsend & Philips probably pending list sizes / who's around as DFA's.

latter 3 go to my point
Do we expect any more from them other than what's been seen?
And do they make it to 2022?

vs. you grab some kids and give them a shot.
They may not make it either, but the chance is there.

Well we know we’ve got 2 x NGA’s coming in, I think personally Phillips should stay another 12 months as we need an AFL ready back-up.

If it’s Townsend or a very speculative late draft pick you’d probably take Townsend and fill his slot from the 2021 draft instead.

Thats troubling if true.
It’s not a straight vote, it’s actually more of a rating system and imo is half the problem with our leadership group changing all the time.

They seem to pick five arbitrary values, which change each year, and then grade each other against that. So everyone grades everyone. Coaches take that and whoever is highest in all categories is typically Heppell and then it’s a crapshoot after that, resulting in the revolving door leadership group.

Supposedly Merrett just missed out because the criteria changed, and if rumours are true the changed category was something about team defence or defensive mindset.

Dodoro and Essendon had a great period all things considered. They didn't cave on the dunkley deal when it would've been easy to and were on the better side of the saad, fantasia and Caldwell deals.

Sadly, that's about all Dodoro usually wins

Thats as equally troubling. If they want a rating system thats fine (i guess) but you need consistency. I would hope at a minimum they arent just saying values without providing a context.

Like not just going: communication; ability; determination; courage; and commitment for example. But really explaining to the players what those attributes encapsulate and why the club values them.
