"The AFL has confirmed to The Age that only "guaranteed money" will be considered when the league computes what a club shall be given as compensation for a departing free agent."

That is a novel idea from the AFL.

Essendon, though, have already flagged they want significant compensation. So they will probably say pick eight is only the starting point and make an ambit claim for a player such as Charlie Curnow as part of the deal.

Yeah righto Gleeson

Did I seriously just read this?

The next question is:
what is Adam Saad worth? A trade for Saad to Carlton should be fairly straightforward. Saad arrived at the Bombers from Gold Coast for a second-round pick and has become a better player since then.

Adam Saad wants to join the Blues.

Carlton's first draft pick is currently No.8 (it will go to at least nine after Ugle-Hagan). They must be prepared to part with that pick and that should get the deal done after offering Saad a five-year deal on significant money. Essendon, though, have already flagged they want significant compensation. So they will probably say pick eight is only the starting point and make an ambit claim for a player such as Charlie Curnow as part of the deal. Which, ironically enough were it to happen, would also mean that after Daniher goes, they would be replacing one injury-plagued, talented key forward who doesn't play with another one.

So, what's the salary cap again?

The more they do shit like this, the more the clubs are able to shape contracts only ensuring a certain amount of money as 'guaranteed'. All of a sudden, a club is paying 95% of the cap - according to their definitions - but in actuality is paying 115% of the cap with okay of head office.

At least, until the media gets wind of it.

Firstly, Carlton's first pick is pick 7, due to a points based penalty to Fremantle from last year. So, wrong. Secondly, the word is ambitious. Thirdly, Charlie Curnow is worth more than Saad; it would cost both Saad and Essendon's first to hit ballpark for him. So, wrong. Thirdly, Daniher is injury plagued; Curnow had an injury which required surgery, then said surgery allegedly went badly, requiring further surgery. So, wrong.

Is it really that hard to write something that is factual? Really?

Michael Gleeson and The Age, really do themselves no credit with garbage like that.

This is pure Essendon fanboy stuff - something I thought they got rid off when they parted ways with Rohan Connolly.

Wtf, that is complete and utter tripe. The Age is but a shadow of its former self and getting worse

Not even the most one eyed died in the wool deadshit drip of an Essendon supporter would even think that was close to reality

From a supposed expert, this is a shocker. There’s just so much wrong with this. I feel like we are being gaslit with Saad’s worth.

Dodo is not even the worst problem Essendon have right now

Seen several red flags raised on Ben Rutten already. He has a massive Scott Watters at St Kilda aura all over him :)

Coaching Succession Plans so far have not been very successful, and Truck Rutten looks like being the worst of the lot :)

Some Bombers fans are saying this feels worse than 2016.
