But that's not eerily similar though. We went through a legitimate process that told us that we needed a new coach and aimed to get the best available and couldn't. We then ran a process aimed at getting the next best.
* on the other hand were saying "we are very comfortable with Rutten, he needs time" one day and then "stuff Rutten we want Clarkson " the very next day without any process. Turns out that it was just a thought bubble.
Their new president might have the shortest tenure of any afl president ever.

Looks like it's option 3..So, choices are:
1) continue with Rutton
2) mega bucks Clarkson, destroying soft cap
3) Hird and mates
We were still talking to potential new coaches before sacking the current one. I reckon Clarko was thinking are they going to treat me like this if things start going pear shaped? Could well have played a part in his decision with * and with us last year

In the end we got a coach who has worked out very well in his first year and has us playing the best football that our club has played in a decade and he has produced positive results. No regrets about missing out on Clarkson.
* best option is either to keep Rutten after what’s gone on this week or get James Hird back. Both are disasters waiting to happen and will have them pining for Clarkson.

He was listening to offers so I'd say if something offer wise blew him away he'd have taken it up.
They have probably given him a lot more money and actual power with decisions than we would most likely have offered.
