James Hird is no quitter but his position has become untenable. The club has deteriated from a top 8 side to the laughing stock of the AFL. They desperately need a fresh start and the only way this can happen is with a clean out of the office holders currently at the club. How can Essendon possibly hope to progress forward when Paul Little, who idiotically extended Hirds contract with a fat pay rise, remains in charge. His decision to fight the AFL and ASADA has proved disasterous. He, Hird and Reid should be marched out the door at first opportunity. It dosent even matter if that is fair or not.

Is that the same Eddie Betts who played for Carlton????

Don't forget how damn good he was at Carlton too though.

His 2013 makes people forget how good he was before. 38, 42, 50, 48 goals in 4 consecutive years, considering he was only 22 in the year he kicked 38, as well as making a big name for himself with his tackling. Was also a gun player.

Now he's gone through some tough times as an AFL player, got rid of some of his weaknesses, and is a more all-rounded player yes, but the talent was always there.

As if he had a choice with the extension - Hird wasn't going to step aside for his suspension and would have sued the club, the league and probably Little himself if they'd have 'cut him loose' as Paul put it.

Hird had them over a barrel at the time and clearer took his 'punishment' on the condition that he was guaranteed a new contract.
