Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

The biggest disappointment going into this match is that a dozen or more players that won't be available between the two sides.

I'm still expecting something interesting to happen though, it invariably does.

Saturday night (afternoon, really;)) at Ethiad with 40,000 under the roof. Sounds good to me.

Think Monfries may play a role on Waters who dominated today.

And Monfries needs to be mindful of Water's ability to pick out opposition players.

We don't want another Watson incident.

Essendon v West Coast at Etihad.

Hahaha that reminds me of that time that LeCras kicked---oh. Shit.

At least we don't play them over there when they have the umpires in their back pocket. Hams SHOULD be suspended and he will be a loss.

Neates and Newman are better than Hams. It's the fact they haven't got any games into them that's the problem.

Dempsey - Hams
Heppell/Dyson - Masten

I think they'll keep Lycett even if NicNat returns. That will give them the same structure as they had with Kennedy.

I'd play McInnes if Naitanui is playing. Better forward, chases and tackles better and we won't need Lycetts extra height. Lynch can pinch hit if need be.

But the positive is, it's pretty even. You'd prefer both sides 80% than one at 100% and the other at 60%.
Both sides will have a reasonably strong midfield group in, and a fair chunk of their talls out.
Fair chance for a random to kick a bag.

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

We got just under 49k in 2007 when the eagles were at the peak of their powers. The atmosphere that night was amazing. Hopefully we can get something similar this weekend.

Can't wait for Saturday night. Bring it on!

Two losses to the wooden spooners. Dark, dark days for the Bombers.

Who would have thought that two seasons later we'd both be sitting in the top 4 and about to play in the match of the round?

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

This is shaping up to be a huge game, should we have a Banter thread?

We'll bring the roast duck.....

Also - can you et Hirdy to do something outlandish to stir the pot again?

Maybe he could fresh air woosha before the match. Or is it our turn to do something crazy?

Essendon have a knack over 25 years of one of their star players getting of the leash and breaking our hearts.

Madden, Salmon, Lloyd and Hird have all done it. Lucas did it as well with a high degree of difficulty because we still won the game, but his efforts were enough to deny us a home prelim.

I'll get on a watson 3 goals 35 touch game

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

Expecting a big crowd the west coast fans always fly over for this one. Wonder if Hirdy will start the jacket waving again??

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

We could really set up the year if we win this week. At 5-1, we should make finals. WCE will probably be a top four side so these are the games we need to win if we want to get a top 4 spot as well.
Should be a cracker.

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

Glass is fine, hand injury was A Selwood (split webbing)

Yeah not confident at all tbh. We've had a tough few weeks and there was a lot of tired looking blokes out there today. I reckon you guys by a couple of goals.

Might re assess when the teams are announced. Woosh said basically nic was tight at the end of the Richmond game, but played it out. Kept him out this week as a precaution. So hopefully we'll have him back. Always takes it to the next level against you guys

the extra days rest certainly helps us too

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

I think we're a real chance provided Hurley and/or Crameri play, as the straighten us up....however I strongly suspect neither will.

I know West Coast have their injuries, but they still seem to have enough talent forward, mid, back and ruck to make a good fist of it, however if Cram and Hurls miss I simply fail to see how we'll line up with anything other than a disfunctional forward line.

And if Ryder also misses, then it obviously makes it even harder to picture us kicking a winning score.

We may go with a smaller forward line .....something like:

Monfries Carlisle Jetta
Dell'Ollio Ryder Davey

and if Ryder misses, I could almost see us playing Fletcher or NLM at FF.

Am I missing anyone obvious, or are we really that hard up for key forwards providing Cram and Hurls/maybe Ryder miss??

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

Would like to see hocking go to Priddis this week though I dont know what we will do about Kerr.

Enter the Nat Rat!

Seriously will be pissed off if we mismanage the rucks against West Coast again. In the last few games we've gone in with Ryder coupled with TBell or Hille. This should match up well against them but for some reason didn't manage the rotations right so we had Nic Nat jumping all over TBell or Hille and running away from the centre against them. Then Cox out bodying Ryder and being smarter with positioning around the ground. I want Ryder to test his athleticism against Nic Nat and our big bodied ruck to jump into Cox all game.

Someone posted earlier

Fletch -> resting ruck
Hooker -> Lynch
Pears -> Darling
Hardingham -> Hill
Dempsey -> small forward
Heppell/Dyson -> resting mid

I agree totally!

In the last few weeks Lonergan has been fantastic. Howlett has been solid all year and Watson is Watson. We really need a lift from Hocking, who looked like he was going to take his game to a new level in preseason games but he hasn't been good at all since his concussion. He had three embarrassing tagging efforts, admittedly against three of the best mids in the modern era, and against Brisbane me and my mate weren't sure if he was playing up until half way through the 3rd quarter.

Forward line is a quandary. Firstly we don't know who will line up and secondly we probably don't have a match up to go with Hurn for speed and strength. Admittedly with West Coast having less KPFs now his long zone breaking kicking wont be as devastating, but it will remain very damaging.

I really think these teams match up very closely. The only difference being that Essendon travel so badly and West Coast go ok in Victoria. I hope we get to play against these guys in a game at the MCG with full lists to choose from!

Re: Essendon vs West Coast (12/5)

It depends if the MRP see his role in the little brawl on the boundary line as anything more than wrestling or not.

Yup, i see it as something i'd like to let go, but something they often give a week for - very borderline with a couple of those jumper punches to the throat/chin.
