Just reading the Age Footy liftout, and Wallsy and Cohnolly pick us at 15 and 16th respectively..Cazza Wilson says 14th and my favourite middle-manager coach of the modern era - Grant Thommo - says 11th (though he reckons the Aints will finish top!)..heh...Mike Sheehan - for those that don't want the fruitbat-yuppy-pinko-leftie perspective of the Age - picked us as spooners, so at least we know there's no Andrew Bolt inspired 'bias' or conspiracy.

Oh well if the expert are correct, at least we can expect a #1 draft pick and a wooden spoon to shove up Mikes Sheehans clacker, and maybe Pagan getting a golden handshake if we finish between 15-16...

But I'd still prefer to see us win more than we lose this year.

Give pick 1 to the Eagles for Judd (and give them 'Brains' too) as he wont ever leave for nothing. Pick 1 is fair.
Use pick 2 on the next best kid...

Keep our options open for the PSD

And a premiership inside of 4 years.

I view this as extremely positive news for 2 reasons:

1. The "Footy Media" have shown repeatedly their terrible knowledge of the game, and they usually get it wrong.

2. Not having any expectations, puts pressure on our opposition.

A nice development. :)

This had crossed my mind to. The elusive PP. - They would get pick 2 though as I don't think a PP can be traded.

Didn't these guys tip the Swans to finish last/bottom 4 in 2005?

The Age also reckons Gibbs is the most hyped draft pick in the history of the AFL!

They may well be right, the point is that he is not over-hyped, with many recruiters identifying him as one of the best junior prospects in a long time.

And also stop using 'god's' name in vain (hint, see your first post in this thread) :p :D

Trent Cotchin, come on, one more classy mid and we'll be killing it in a few years ;)

I'm also hoping for Trent Cotchin next year although hopefully it won't require another bottom three finish to get him. We could do with another skilled, classy, goal kicking midfielder.

In terms of what has been discussed in regards to our finsih.

Blues to make the eight.

I can't see us finishing bottom again.

But i can't see us any higher than maybe 10th with a good run.

We haven't enough developed talent to provide depth at this stage so any injuries to key players will hurt us.

I think the key difference between this season and the previous ones is that we will be in with a chance of winning the match in a higher % of games even if we don't eventually win them.

agree with you here. We will be way more competitive then last year but if we have a few injuries throughout the year we are in a bit of trouble. hopefully we will in 5-9 games this year. can't see us finishing higher than 10th either.

prove me wrong carlton:D:thumbsu:

It's only fair that we start favourites for the spoon. Afterall, we have won the previous 2. But then, there's a big positive vibe around the club atm (Pratt and the NAB victory) that I think some experts are carelessly ignoring.

They just need more convincing I reckon. :)

Same people who predict Roos as spooners year in year out. Not really concerned with what they have to say, hopefully we'll finish between 10th and 12th, which is a realistic target.

why would we want to finish between 10th and 12th. i mean, sure we win a few more matches but we dont make finals and we get the 6th or 7th pick, its probably the worst position to finish in.

One more year of playing the Flints, the Hartletts the Griggs the Bowers and the Austins etc...nnot only would help season those kids but would guarantee us TEN YEARS of glory... if we can hold our nerve for this year and play kids instead of blokes going nowhere long term. (Lance and Kouta mostly)

We finish last or second last, that'd be 5 out of 6 years in the bottom two. We've got to improve. I don't think we're good enough (or more accurately, experienced enough) yet to finish top 8, and so I think we can reasonably expect to finish out of the top 8 but miss out on the bottom four. We'll go into next year with more confidence, will help out off-field with greater memberships / FTA TV exposure etc. Wanting to finish bottom 2 rather than 10 - 12th is the wrong mentality. Besides, how many teams jump straight from last to the top 8?

Matty Kruezer it is :)

I could sure do with another injection of young highly rated talent into the club :)

I agree C4.
We don't need anymore mids, we've got enough on our list at the moment. Plus, good ruckman don't come around as often as good mids.

Wont happen. Kangaroos will win the spoon and Essendon Brisbane and Richmond will all end lower.

Only time will tell but its a bit unfair on the player to expect to much in the first year.

Maybe you should think, or at the very least research before giving us your pearls of wisdom.

Essendon can't finish any lower than last year if the Kangas win the spoon.

BTW, you left a club out of your sliders and suprise surprise, it's who you support.

I agree C4.

We definitely need another class midfielder like a Ball, Cooney or Judd who have enough speed to break open a pack and kick a running goal like Craig Bradley used to do. I don't know how good Kreuzer, Bellchambers and McEvoy are or where they'll be drafted, but we won't finish last this year and we should hedge our bets on getting a ruck in the second round or later.

Veszpremi or Gilly's boy Cotchin will do if they have skill and can kick a goal. :)

We should play Kouta and Whitnall(as the third forward) in every game and go for as many wins as possible this year.

Stuff the priority pick!

We need to start winnng again now that Pratt has rejuvenated the club off field and I don't want to see another spoon for a long, long time. We have enough young talent on the list to build around and you can build a great list by canny recruiting without needing to bottom out. The Dockers, Crows and Swans haven't bottomed out yet all of those teams are contenders for the flag.

Lets hope Pratt pinches a few recruiters or spends more on recruiting by putting them on Visy's payroll. :D
