And was told to give the position back and complied. After Hamilton had exceeded track limits at the same spot 29 times, which at a conservative estimate of 0.1s time gain equals 2.9s of on track advantage before he was told to pull his head in (which only happened because Red Bull told Max to start doing it).

The classic of that race was that Hamilton had been doing it all race ... knew he'd been doing it all race, and as soon as Max overtook him at that spot, he was on the radio bleating "wah wah ... he overtook me off the track ... wah wah".
I agree Hamilton went off the track. But perez over took him off the track on the inside and never gave it back. An verstappeb overtook him off the track on the last lap and obviously didn't give it back as well.

Are we talking about a different race? Hamilton won the race I'm referring to.

And I think his behaviour in that race sums him up perfectly. He breaks the rules all race and plays innocent when the team get on the radio and tells him to stop. And as soon as another driver breaks rules at the same spot, he gets on the radio and bleats about it.

Yeah I'm talking about the finale. Every driver complains too much as well. But yes Hamilton complains more than most. And again all drivers go off track that's why I hate cement off runs. Put some grass or gravel or dirt down.

Dude, the biggest "track limits" winner in the last race was Hamilton again. Are you forgetting the first lap incident where Verstappen got him and he just took to the run-off area and cut the second half of the chicane completely? Max was about .25s behind at the start of that series of corners, and was out of DRS range at the end of it ...

Anyway, I agree, you'd think track limits isn't that hard to fix. Grass is a no-go, you saw what that did at Silverstone when Max had a ... what, 20g (?) impact with the tyre wall. But gravel is definitely something that worked well in the past. I'd love to know why they went away from it. I wonder if it's another safety thing, with drivers getting hit by stones thrown up from cars in front, when gravel gets dragged on to the track?

Regardless, they just need to say "you cannot leave the track, unless forced off to avoid a collision". This review/adjustment of track limits before each race is a farce.

That opens up a whole other can of worms. What is realistically avoiding a collision? You just know that would get exploited big time.

Yeah, but it's a can of worms that already exists and has to be taken into account.

My point is that the limit at all tracks and all corners should be fixed and enforced, no wishy-washy "at this race turns 3, 11 and 14 will be watched for track limit violations ..."

Huh? None of that actually happened in the real world.
