Did we figure out what draft he is?

if he really is another top key forward prospect people are going to lose their s**t hahaha
Yeah for years we were relying on small forwards like Robbins and Johnson to now getting a new young promising one each year

He's certainly a tall lad at 199cms, his brother (the one on a volleyball scholarship with the AIS) is even taller. It'll be funny to pick up Mitchell Croft with the alternative pathways rookie deal.
Any idea on his draft range if he wasn’t linked to us ? If it was open draft would we probably take him and at what round?

Would need him to play Volleyball for another two years as per the Cat B ruling

He is for next year. Likely late first to early second round.

Harley Reid is the best KPP next year IMO. Took multiple contested intercept marks for VicCountry versus SA in the last five minutes. Crofty is in the mix but he isn’t playing the u18 level that Reid is starring in.

My memory is a bit shady. Was Terry DeKonning that bad we couldn’t get him to 100 games? We could do with either sons.
He was a plodder in the Hart era, when Royce had cleaned out the list and was trying local league players - some shone, most didn't.

Terry had a total of 3 disposals in his first 4 games! (in 1980). Amazingly after we lost the first 11 straight in 1980, De Koning was brought in in round 12, and played in 3 wins in his first 3 games. His contributions in those 3 wins were 1 kick, 1 handball, and 7 hit outs. He snagged another handball in round 22, but in a loss.

1981 and 1982 were only marginally better. His 31 career games yielded 2 goals - both kicked in his last game, which was a 146-point annihilation by Essendon in R22 in 1982. In that game, Bill Berry was first ruck, and by then De Koning was not even asked to back Berry up - our only other hit outs were 1 to Jim McAllester and 3 to Chris Burton!

I respect anyone who has ever pulled on the RW&B jumper, but it's safe to say TDK was a good honest trier. I remember he could take a decent contested mark though.

Well if Bill Berry is named in the first ruck ahead of you it probably means you aren't that good.
That 1980-82 era our rucks were an aging Bluey Hampshire, Bill Berry, Terry De Koning and a pinch-hitting Bruce Reid.

For a club with such a long line of decorated ruckmen, that was the possibly a low-water mark in our history talent-wise, between the Dempsey and Purser eras.

But, having met Bluey and Bill at the time around the club though (never met Terry), what they lacked in skill they did their best to make up for with giving it their all. They were both well aware of their limitations, mainly mobility and in Bluey's case age, but you could never accuse either of them of not busting a gut.

I think best example of what a great club man Bluey Hampshire was, was the 1989 legends game at Skinner reserve of past Footscray v Collingwood players during the fightback campaign. Well-served by Dempsey and Round in Footscray colours, Bluey offered to play in the Pies team as they were short of ruckmen.

I'm pretty sure Jax Cooney (number 16) is playing for our Under 16's today

The kid is bloody talented as a key forward, moves so well with and without the ball

had a lead up like Naughton eariler

Yes, Bluey was a rippa. Undersized compared to other ruckman and was always very competitive, even against the best.

He was generally a really nice bloke. The players loved him, playing with and for him. He never said much on field, wasn't a dirty player - but if someone whacked him or one of his smaller team-mates, Bluey caught up with them eventually. He might not flatten them, or throw a punch or an elbow, but he made sure that the next tackle or bump on the culprit was extra-hard, or he 'accidentally' leant or fell on them with his full weight! :)

Made many long-lasting friendships at both clubs, and even after losing his leg and then in his final days, there were ex-team-mates and other coaching staff from the Dogs (and Cats) who visited him and kept in touch. Another former Dogs coach was a close friend, and a previous team-mate at Geelong in Goggin had been instrumental in him coming across. The old lumbering footballing plumber was a good man to have around.

Only just realize which number is Levi West in the under 16's game

The kid is a jet, broke almost all tackles today, and has great outside speed
Kicks well on both feet

Have you got a list of jumper numbers for the noted Father Sons in today’s game?

Would be handy when watching the game later.

Sadly no access to Team list

Would expect AFL Victoria to write up a report in a few days with more details

Clubs like to keep Under 16's stuff pretty quiet to reduce player pressure etc
