Anyone know how Kyan Eagleton is going? The SA school footy league are bare with the info the put out.

With our recent track record of father-sons, particularly as young Cooney sounds like he might be one too, I expect young Eagleton will grow to be a KPP!

Within a few years, we'll have a list full of KPP-size father-sons. Landsberger and Zimmerman were ensuring the players' dietary intakes over decades would produce a never-ending production line of father-son giants! Zimmerman is still there - expect Caleb Daniel to eventually produce off-spring that are 200cm+ and Tim English's kids will be nudging 250!

And I suspect they were sneaking drugs into their tucker that made them produce an abundance of Y chromosome sperm cells.

It's not just a coincidence either.

Landsberger and Zimmerman were running an experimental breeding program for years in a secret area two levels below ground at VUWO. Some of the unsuccessful ones are still down there, but a few have escaped to other clubs over the years:

So the secret is out; we really have been running a clandestine genetic engineering department.

Been catching up on a lot of Nab replays, seen all of Croft’s games he's played in now. I thought I would give a few of my thoughts.

He doesn’t get involved much at this stage, but there’s a lot to like at the same time. Looks to have good speed and agility for a big guy and has a decent work rate. Hard to tell how good his field kicking is since he doesn’t get much of the ball and a lot of it’s under heavy pressure, but looks good at putting teammates into space with a handball. He’s very skinny, looked like the skinniest kid out there in pretty much all of the games. Despite his frame he doesn’t go to ground easily and is reasonably quick to get back on to it once the ball hits the deck and he’s quite good at ground level for a big guy. He does provide a good contest aerially and can be quite brave under a high ball (saw him take 2 pretty big hits). Unfortunately he just doesn’t clunk many marks, at least at this stage. He also doesn’t have much of a leap on him.

In conclusion, he does have a fair way to go to get drafted for next year. But there is plenty to work with and has plenty of time. I think he might go ok in defence as he is competitive, mobile and recovers well after the initial contest also.

Definitely sounds more like a defender from your write up, which would be a good thing for us. What’s his current height at?

So probably only a 4th or 5th rounder, right?! 😆

He played his first senior game last Saturday at his junior club Marby.

I wasn’t there, but heard he held is own and did pretty well. Was in the best players.

As you say, there’s not much of him, but at only 17 he’ll have a fair bit of filling out to do. Is also considerably taller than his old man.

In all seriousness, he's looking like a very late pick or not picked up at all at this stage.

The positive is he has a fair bit going for him and a lot of upside to come.

Thanks.

Unfortunately (for our drafting capital) many of these father/son prospects seem to grow a leg as they get closer to drafting age, and rise through the rankings.

On the flip (positive) side, their rankings turn out to be largely justified as they mature and force their way into the senior team - Liber, Wallis (disregarding the past season and a bit), West, Zaine Cordy (not so much Ayce), Hunter, hopefully Darcy.

Hopefully young Croft tracks in a similar fashion, then of course there's young Eagleton, 2 more Wests, Cooney and a seemingly never-ending production line. We just need to ensure we get any half-decent player to 100 games!
(Although we've missed out on the Reid boys, and also now the De Konings, plus Matt Hannebery, Ryan O'Keefe and a few others, but managed to nab Liam Picken, Josh Dunkley, Ed Richards, Patrick Bowden, Callan Ward and Liam Jones, so swings and roundabouts with the family connections!)

The apple didnt fall far from the tree there

I hope his hamstrings are better than his old man. Matthew Croft should've been a gun but just had ongoing soft tissue injuries. I think its why he ended up at full back. His natural position was Wing but he just couldn't run without getting injured. Probably needed an Easton Wood style rebuild of his running style and quad strengthening but a different era.

I honestly can't remember anything about Matthew other then he was bald. I guess I was too young. I probably should've mentioned Jordan has a great head of hair.
He had a magnificent head of hair when he came to us as a forward, but after a career of playing in the footscray defence, he finished bald

He was seated a few pews down at the St Kilda game. I can confirm that his head is at the ..as a badger stage. When he played his 50th, he'd already played 50 games in the twos and 50 missed to injuries. Symmetry. He was a reliable full back, cagey and alert, could play a shut down role on the best of them or be moved forward and kick goals. Who could forget his retirement game against North with Simon Garlick ? Croft had played all/most of the season at Werribee, played at full forward and kicked 5 goals. A couple of articles appeared in the press accusing the Club was tanking for early draft picks by playing Garlick and Croft in the twos and losing games. Early 2000s, I used to go to a gym which had a framed photograph of the U18 Vic Country 1989 squad, including Croft, Chris Grant and Ben Sexton.

Did Steven "Billy" Kolyniuk really call his son Billy (perhaps William) ? If this becomes a trend, the father-son brigade might include Astro Naughton, Bubba Smith, JJ Johannisen, Red Richards. What's wrong with our developing society ? Whatever happened to nicknames that tell us something about the player rather than a play on their birth names ? What happened to the trend of Turtle (Grant), Sockeye (Salmon), Bluey (Hampshire), Pudden (Chalmers), Sugarfoot (Zeuschner) Chooka (Merrington) ?
