Was a big bald Matty Croft fan. He would be bloody awesome right now in the side with Keath and Gardy.

Seemed like such a mongrel on the field but gentleman off it.

Hope his kid is half as good. We’re ridiculously spoiled for father-sons
Never really thought of Matty Croft as a mongrel onfield, although certainly a fierce competitor.

I would've said his main cohort in many an undersized backline, Steve Kretiuk, was the guy opposition players really had to watch

Most of my memories of him are late in his career when he made the odd accidental spoil punch to the head and always seemed to look grumpy

We had the chance to draft the twins but didn't. They must not have been as good as Rhylee or their younger brother
Both Twins are having great local years
Might see them at Footscray next year

It really is remarkable how many quality father sons we’ve had when you see how few actually turn out. Every. Single. Time. We hear about a new one coming through it’s always “Yeah but have you heard about his younger brother?? He’s 10x better” young Libba & the West twins were meant to be the 2nd coming of god compared to the older boys.

Now the Crofts & Darcy. Reality is most of those guys end up going undrafted or unsighted completely - so it is amazing how many quality AFL players we keep churning out

Watching Issy Grant in the AFLW, does anyone have info on her brother Oliver?

I find he's playing in the Ballarat Junior League and is named in the bests basically every week, which indicates to me he's probably a mid? Any more info than that?

Long drive from Willi to Ballarat every week!

Better game from Croft today, probably his best for the season. Even with his team getting smashed and eliminated out of the finals, he kicked 3 goals and laid a few good tackles. Kicked one from a holding the ball after a couple efforts. His 2nd came from a good lead out in space and his 3rd came from a free kick after he tried to take a hanger then quickly got back up and was tackled without the ball. Shifter was commentating and mentioned that he's a good size at 199cm and an elite runner.

199cm elite runner … sounds like he belongs on a wing to me.

Yeah but this kid could be anything! Even as good as Schache!
Maybe we should ask him to do preseason in defence, start next year on the wing, then be a KPF for a few weeks, start rucking mid way through the year and then even try his hand as a ruck-rover. The confused kid will be quitting for volleyball before draft day.

Croft did look more confident in this game. He seems mobile enough, but it’s hard to tell from the one camera setup how much running he’s doing.

3 goals takes him to 9 goals in 9 games for the season.

Two of his goals came from free kicks, one from a tackle winning a HTB and the other from being tackled without the ball in a groundball contest after a marking attempt. Looked relatively nimble in the bit of play with the HTB.

Still pretty lean, as you’d expect for a bottom ager his height.

He’s a good mover yeah? How’s his marking?

Club should put in a sneaky word & move him to CHB next year 😈

Overall his marking is not great for a key position player which is why I think he would be better down back. His marking is fine on a lead and when the ball is kicked to his advantage he is able to protect the ball well. In a pack situation or in a genuine one on one I can't recall him marking one thus far.

EDIT: Also doesn't mark the ball at it's highest point.

He doesn’t have his dads 1v1 ability. I hope it’s there somewhere inside him and his dad helps him develop it.

In saying that, it’s hard to do much when you are a stick.

I was at his last game ( Garlics as well ) where he kicked 5 goals from memory ! He absolutely dominated the 3 Q .
All the best for Junior Croft as he continues his development .
