Analysis Father Son Selections

Did Steven "Billy" Kolyniuk really call his son Billy (perhaps William) ? If this becomes a trend, the father-son brigade might include Astro Naughton, Bubba Smith, JJ Johannisen, Red Richards. What's wrong with our developing society ? Whatever happened to nicknames that tell us something about the player rather than a play on their birth names ? What happened to the trend of Turtle (Grant), Sockeye (Salmon), Bluey (Hampshire), Pudden (Chalmers), Sugarfoot (Zeuschner) Chooka (Merrington) ?

We've got Truck if that counts

Easy to forget Crofty was pick 2 in the 1989 national draft.

We’ve had great value from our father sons. Ayce cost a bit but most of the others have been total bargains. Sam unfortunately came at something like market value, albeit we had just played in a GF.

I spoke to someone in our recruiting team at the end of 2020 and they had remembered Sam as a third tall back maybe with a bit of potential, only for him to walk in after the season roughly as tall as English.

If Croft is tracking the same way it’s time for him to find a passion for rowing for a year and sit footy out ffs.

Paid market value in theory but the fact we could bank up late picks for Jamarra/Darcy is a huge bargain. In reality you’d never be able to trade a bunch of picks for pick 1/2!

All true, and particularly given the form line for a lot of less known junior talent was blurred by lockdowns anyway.

Shame Sam didn’t tank it down to pick 60 all the same.

He’s not tracking remotely close to how Jamarra was his bottom age year, but he could still go full Darcy next year I guess. I’ve only just started checking out the NAB League replays. Watched his 3 goal game and he’d have to improve a fair bit over the next 12 months to push up toward the top half of the draft next year.

Cook ? A play on his birth name. A good get but what about Truck ? It had to have been Alan Mannix or Jordan McMahon.
Groenewegen :)

The heavily intoxicated Groenewegen, on a flight to Hawaii, grabbed the hosties' flight microphone and uttered the words: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is Captain Groenewegen speaking ... we are currently cruising at 10,000 metres. I hope you are enjoying the flight because it will be your last, we're going down".

Of course. Wasn't there a story about Brian Royal and "Shorty" Daniels commandeering wheel chairs for a pre boarding race ? The players were put off the plane somewhere in Asia. Some party, eh ?

I have a secret to tell you, F32, it's just for you and you must promise not to tell anyone. I strongly counsel anyone against trying to replicate Captain's practical joke. I know a bloke who tried it around the same time, inspired by the mischief of it. In the organisation in which he was then working, senior management and a number of interested colleagues were all airborne heading interstate for a conference. Our bloke though it would be a fun idea to get hold of the public announcement intercom mike, late Friday afternoon but pre-drinks, he doesn't even have that excuse, announce the crash of the plane and propose "reforms" in the workplace. Unbeknown to our practical joker, the first husband of a colleague had been killed in a plane crash.

Yeah maybe ok in the movies but not in real life

please do not do that jimmy fallon GIF

I honestly can't remember anything about Matthew other then he was bald. I guess I was too young. I probably should've mentioned Jordan has a great head of hair.

Croft was a terrific player.

Try and find the game against North in which their vice captain Stevens was returning after his head was nearly cut off with a falling window pain. Before the first bounce, good bloke Rohan Smith runs up and shakes Stevens hand.

It was a great game, with many lead changes but now there are only seconds left and the Dogs are less than a goal in front.

North get the the ball, break out and bomb it forward into Pagans Paddock where Carey and Croft stand together in the goal square.

If Carey marks, it's a sure goal after the siren and North win.

The ball hangs in the air and Croft marks. Siren goes, Dogs win.

Croft was a very good fullback.

I'm on board with you on Croft's service. He was certainly well worth his spot in that final year but narry a complaint. Your account of Smith's tribute to Stevens, wasn't he or one of the other North players with him that night, perhaps Carey, a part owner of that pub ? Gee, we've had some really good people play for our Club.

Do we know how old Willson and Max are?

Willson is 15s, he would love a growth spurt like his older brother because right now he is tiny compared to his teammates

Thank you - just did some digging myself seems as though Max would be 12/13 if that’s the case. You’d think they would get to similar height to Luke at a minimum.
