News Fev sought Pies Trade

I think you need to read the articles in today paper. Nixon got the ball rolling on the Wednesday with Henderson.

Perhaps Fev's close relationship with Eddie played a part in him only kicking 1 goal against us this season.
It don't matter when the ball got rolling... it's what Brissie was willing to do. Carlton's could've easily used Collingwood's interest to get a better deal... They say henderson...we say no we want more... before pies... Brissie say "take it or leave it"... after pies.... we say "ok...anyone got collingwood's number"... Brissie say "ok ok pick 12 aswell"

You can actually hear the full interview Eddie did with Fev on the MMM website. He certainly sounded pretty upset about leaving, and it was clear he hadn't expected it. He said pretty much the entire team had contacted him since being traded, and he would really miss the club and thought we'd go very well in 2010.

When Eddie said to him he can now be like 90% of the population by hating the Blues, he responded with "No, I could never hate the Blues". Early days though I guess.

Well that sounds good then. I remember Fev as having passion for the team and I would hate to think he was just a paid employee when all is said and done. I hope he never puts the club down.

I just can't reconcile myself to him pleading to go to Collingwood and Eddie having that much influence over him.

So you're the eskimo that bought the ice. ;)

Makes me sick too, ODN. Used to love the bloke, and would back him to the hilt, but I'm losing respect for him with every day that passes.

Pissed me off royally that he just told people he 'nominated' the Pies and Saints, who did he think he was? He would've gone where we told him or not played AFL at all (IMO). Least of all, we would've sent him to our arch-enemies, especially as the week wore on and his value wained, significantly.

Looking back, every contest, every attempt screamed "ME ME ME ME ME". Diving for free kicks more and more frequently as matches progressed, death-stares to team-mates if passes missed him by a millimetre.

Team-mates who more often than not would hit him on the tit - Especially when if they did hit him, he'd probably spray them (this year at least).

Refusing to shake hands with his own teammates at times - Not sure what this was about. The list goes on, and on.

I think it was time to move on.

collingwood could never pull off a big deal like that.
They want the world but are willing to give up F#%K all.
Over rate there players waaaaaaaaayyyy too much.

I'm not about to go down that route. After all Judd nominated Carlton. It is just knowing that the Collingwood president had influence over Fev while he was still at Carlton, that kind of grinds my gears a little bit.

I would like to point out that Fev only said that he wanted to go to Collingwood when it appeared the move to Brisbane wasn't going to happen, by no means did he imply that the Pies was his first choice of club. You can accuse Fev of a lot of things, but not that IMHO.

I think in that instance, nominating a team was best for the Eagles, gave them scope and direction, and was also a team that had enough young talent to part with some, and attractive draft picks. Collingwood and Saints, on the other hand wasn't exactly good for us. Two teams that are 'challenging' and wouldn't want to pass off mid- or top- tier talent.

As for you CP, you're talking sense - It appears Fev called the Pies to resurrect his playing career, not as a matter of preference.

I guess this shows he really wanted to go as much as Carlton wanted him to go, Glad Carlton wouldn't deal with Collingwood.

I think the more likely point is that the relationship between Fev and Carlton had become untenable. Burnt too many bridges, so at least he was smart enough to know he had to get out as much as the club wanted him out.

Think you're getting a little confused mate. He was told he wouldn't be coming back no matter what happened. He really wanted to play AFL again, as much as Carlton really wanted him to go.

Geez that would be hard to take...We're going to pay you out of your contract and sack you so you will have to wait until the draft before another club is prepared to throw more money at you!!!

(unless we were going to wait until after all of the drafts before we did the payout/sack).

Meh, it doesn't suprise or bother me that much to be honest. What is he supposed to do? He's the best FF in the game, he wants to stay in melbourne, seems pretty normal that he would want to go to a club that can (a) pay him; and (b) provide the exposure/opportunities his talents demand.

I know he ****ed us over a bit, but I don't think that means he has to sit back and spend the last 4 years of his career in purgatory.

all i have to say is suck shit pies, u were never going to get the man who would win you a flag, i couldnt be happier that fev is playing for the lions rather than those scumbags

While he still had a contract with us he could nominate where wanted to go (from whoever was happy to take him) or even stay with us. He could've done what Aker threatened with Brisbane if he wanted and said if Carlton didn't trade him to the Pies he'd honor his contract at the Blues. Legally, with his contract, couldn't be sacked so we'd have to pay out a fortune to do that and crush our Cap. Fortunately he was reasonably flexible with his club choice and happy moving the Qld. Be thankful for that. Thing you're pi$$ed off and looking way into things that just aren't there.

Good interview. Went through it nicely in the way it led up to him being at the Lions. Said how it was and how initially wanted to go to the Pies or Saints but was certainly happy to go to Qld. Only pushed the Pies button when Brisbane looked like falling through on the last day but the Lions come through again half an hour later.

Would have to look damn hard to find anything wrong with what he said.

We didn't want to deal with the Pies...lol!!!!

FEV QUOTE:
"i wanted to stay in Melbourne".

Leaving all his mates, family,Crown etc i cant help but think Fev may go wayward up in QLD.I hope he doesn't for him and his family sake.
Time will tell.

"Initially". Don't leave that out. Then when Brisbane come up he was happy to go to Qld.

Only the media are supposed to take things out of context, not us.

I think that after 2 weeks on the gold coast he realised that they have Jupiter's Casino up there and it was suddenly a very attractive proposition...

So it was a win-win situation for everyone involved... and by extension not at all involved...

Brisbane wins coz they got Fev
Carlton wins coz they got hendo and pick 12
Fev wins (or loses depending on the cards he is dealt) because he can continue with his poker addiction
And the casino definitely wins... more of Fev's money than Fev wins of theirs :)

who is a cynic around here :D

Pissed off at why he made it public like he had some sort of say in the matter. I'm sure all of the clubs knew where he wanted to go.

I'm sure we could've torn up his contract if we had wanted to - that would've been degrading for the Fev, but more than anything, would put the club at a disadvantage in terms of leverage in the trade. Any work contract has behavioural clauses - disgraceful conduct at a work function can get you fired in any walk of life.

But that doesn't help our club as a whole, and as much as Fev would have been able to go to either Saints or Pies as he wanted it wouldn't bode well for his character and might take a toll on his mental state as well.

Would have to look damn hard to find anything wrong with what he said.

I think you're reading my post thinking I'm responding to his latest on-air interview. It was in relation to one of his first, in fact.

Just like to talk about a comment made by McGuire during the Fev interview. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned it.

When the proposed deal with Brisbane looked like falling over on Friday morning, McGuire entered the fray. In his words he was hoping to get a "quick kill". So who knows what he would have offerred Carlton at this stage ?

Collingwood just don't understand the notion that you need to give quality in order to get quality. I think both teams have done well out of this trade. I think you have a future star in Hendo. Who knows what pick 12 will bring as well.

FWIW, as a Lions supporter, It doesn't bother what Fev said about wanting to go to either Collingwood or St Kilda. When the ball is bounced in 2010, Fev will be fully committed to the Lions.

I'm glad that most Carlton supporter's have a preferance for Fev to be at the Lions rather than the Pies. Maybe some of you will still follow him with some good wishes.

McGuire confirmed the Pies' interest: "We were into it, but they (Carlton) wouldn't deal.''
Can't understand why not.........pick 30 and Stanley would have been fantastic.
