That’s exactly why we went for a key position defender tonight. I think the forwardline is pretty set with Frampton, Fog and Himmelberg coming through; got Jones, McHenry, Crouches in the mids, but we looked a bit light in developing young defenders before tonight.

With a couple of quality mids still available I’m sure we will be very happy with someone like Robertson at pick 24.

There weren't any of those in this draft aside from Brodie Kemp who had just done an ACL, and Tom Green who was a GWS academy player

That was the least impressed I've seen a draftee look in a long time. That said, he could be a bit of a downer all the time

Rory Sloane cried when he was drafted to us. Might be a good sign.

There were none of those sorts of players either. Half backs, wingmen, questionable kicks, sure. No rolled gold mid though

That said though, whilst I have my doubts that McAsey will end up the best player we could have picked at 6, he seems a very safe selection. Meets a long term need, should have a high enough talent level that he should anchor our defensive unit for a decade, has a very easy path into the best 22 (To the point he's a likely round 1 debut).

I'm happy with that pick.

Still, I wouldn't be upset if we prioritised kicking skills.
