Fit WCE or Geelong?

Moron Alert. Geelongs midfield depth better than ours? HAHAHAHAHAH Sorry mate, fully fit, we will smash every midfield.

Cousins - Bartel
Judd - Ablett Jnr
Kerr - Corey
Fletcher - J Selwood
Embley - Chapman
Braun - Wojcinski
Stenglein - Ling/Rooke
Selwood - Enright/Hunt
Priddis - Kelly
Rosa - Stokes
Cox - Ottens

Cats top few not quite as celebrated (yet) but it's not as clear cut as people are making out. More than happy to take a fit and firing WC on to be honest would be great to see.

Matching up the teams, we've comprehensively beaten West Coast in Geelong in recent years while the games at Subi have been pretty tight wins to West Coast. Both are obviously very good teams, but I think we match up too well against the Eagles and would take victory more often than not. Given our style of pressure play I think we play the perfect game to put West Coast's "handball happy" style to the sword as the Eagles tend to be prone to extreme pressure and rely on the highest work-rate in the league to get their wins.

What happened last year down at Cat Park? A comprehensive victory???? You idiot. You guys had basically the team you have today squander a 50 pt lead to WC on your home turf. And yes highest work rate in the league gets you success. Win a GF and play good consistent finals footy then come and talk.

I thought Wojinski, Enright & Hunt are defenders, while Chappy & Stokes are forwards?

Not a comprehensive victory at all but 05 and 07 certainly were. Was looking a bit the same till our lack of fitness and confidence showed up (as it did time and time again). I give credit to WC they did lift sensationally but we have been able to beat WC midfield outside of this game. I'm not saying we're better but we do obviously match up ok.

No.

All of those Eagles players are fully-fledged midfielders.

How many players do you think can play in the midfield at the ONE time during a game? Where do they rest or play when they are not following the ball? On the wings/half forward/half back flanks of course as indeed a lot of those Geelong players do.

Geelong have statisticly the number 1 midfield ,defense and forward line in the afl this year.Something west coast certainly did not have.

Geelong dont have 1 weakness at all this year where as last year people were often questioning wc forward line which is a bit of a weak link.It is clear cut that geelongs best is better.

That one's kinda out of context, we were a team inable to sustain decent footy for more than a half due to a lack of fitness. The Cats ran out of puff late in the second and could really only put in another 10 mins of footy in the third before throwing in the towel. I wouldn't really be reading too much into that game as it was the equivalent of putting a marathon runner and a fat kid into a marathon. The difference this year is that the fat kid's been slimmed down into a lean marathon runner as well.

Pretty much, in Rooke and Ling we've got the "two way" midfielders to go with Cousins and Judd, and shut them out of the game, and then we've got enough class to beat the rest. Perhaps while we're talking injuries being a cause for poor form we can mention that we lost both Rooke (who was carving up Kerr until half time) and Harley for the second half of that match.

Hopefully though, I'll be able to come back and talk to you on the 29th of September :)

Wouldn't this be a cracker of a game at the MCG? Shattered it's not gonna happen and hopefully it will occur in the future. I'm talking about a 100% fit Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Embley, Cox taking on Bartel, Corey, Ablett Enright, Selwood etc. Who would you back in this match? Would be extremely fast paced and exciting. I'd probly back in WCE, just. Thoughts?

^Correct me if I'm wrong, but it can actually happen in the prelim final?

edit: i didn't see the 'FULLY fit' wce part lol

Geelong so far this year vs WC 2006 I agree Geelong 2007 is better but that is not the comparison. It is a current fit WC team vs Geelong atm. Many players have improved from WC this year but they aren't at the same level of Judd, Cousins and Kerr but are still in the side.

Champ you have won ONE grand final against Sydney. Hardly going to be looked back on as one of the great sides like Hawthorn (89-91) or Brisbane (01-03). I know you will say thats one more than we have but to say you would have "tons more depth" is just garbage - you would have beaten Port on Friday night if your depth was as strong as you would like it to appear. 30 injuries is an absolute exaggeration - name them?

You WC fans just can't seem to accept that your team may not be quite as good as you would like them to be. You have won ONE flag, in probably a soft year.

In 3 weeks we will have won ONE flag. I'm tipping we will go on and be more successful than your team in the coming years.

Soft year, short memory. The Crows were basically unbackable with 3 rounds to go and probably had as good a season as geelong have had this year. Things can change quickly and the Cats can go down just as quickly as they came up. Its happened to teams before and it will happen again. Lets just wait until you actually win something before you start mouthing off.

One point that has been missed when comparing the two teams is the intangible elements.

Things like mental and physical toughness, heart and courage. WC is the toughest team in the league by the length of the Flemmington straight.

Imagine if Geelong had to deal with external factors like WC has done this year. They would of finished bottom 6 while the Eagles are still punching on. Add to this Eagles heavy travell schedule vs Geelongs cushy draw.

Geelongs record of imploding is well known. The Eagles under Worsfold just never give up.

Eagles would win a GF between these sides in a canter...

A lot of those Geelong players are mainly forwards or running defenders, while every single WC player you mentioned is a genuine midfielder. Apart from Selwood who plays more on small fowards these days.

Fully fit WC against this Cats side - will be very close and high intensity, we'll have to wait untill next year however

Geelongs forwardline is overrated though. Mooney is a good CHF, and they have some brilliant small forwards, but Nathan Ablett is one of the worst full forwards in the leauge.

Too bad you're not as sharp in these comments as Del Piero was on the pitch ay? Without 'physical toughness, heart and courage' Geelong would not be where they are now. We have had no 'cushy' draw whatsoever and just belted a team in what was supposed to be a home final for us at our opponents ground. We have won ALL of our interstate games this year and ALL but one comfortably. West Coast players are more than used to travel it is not an issue for them.

We are talking 'fully fit' right? Just about all those WC players youd think would still get a game and even if more of a 'genuine' midfielder guys like Braun, Embley, Rosa have to play somewhere when Cousins, Kerr, Judd, etc are following.

And how can a forward line that has been as explosive as ours and scored so much be overrated? If Nathan Ablett is indeed one of the worst ffs in the league then that must mean the rest of the forwards have been even more effective in carrying him all year?

There is clearly no way then to judge that fairly.

this geelong side looks mentaly tough to me,i dont no what geelong side you are watching.

A fit West Coast vs Geelong in the GF. That is a mouth watering scenario.

We all know that WCE at their best are without doubt worthy of playing in the big dance, obviously. Up against Geelong who have taken all before them.

I would take Geelong in a close one as they are even at every post, and their defence is one of the strongest and most disciplined i've seen.

Lets hope we get to see this sometime next season. Hopefully Judd and Cousins stick around.

Seriously Delusional comparing Cats toughness to WC.
Gee it was only a couple weeks ago Choco got inside your heads and you choked.
You guys have had a dream season. Put up with the crap we have and your club would of self destructed. NO DOUBT
Please stop embarrassing yourself. There is a reason your club has not won a premiership in 40 years. And why our club has won 3 since starting even though Most experts estimate its 15-20 % harder for the Eagles to win compared to a Vic side..

I know.

But all of those Eagles players are midfielders.

Some of the Geelong players you mentioned are blokes who can sometimes play in the the middle.

why are wc mentaly tougher than the cats?

so every single loss is a choke than we have only choked 4 times this year which is less then wc have ever choked in 1 year.

whats this about it being 20% harder for wc to win the flag?ALL OF THE EXPERTS say you have a huge advantage becaue you are a sate that only supports 2 sides which means you have alot more money to spend on looking after your players.
