Fixture Fixture 2025 discussion

Haven't doubled up against the Magpies since 2011, yet for a third straight season we'll play Richmond twice.
Since 2014 we've visited Adelaide oval 19 times (if you include 2025) to play the two local teams, yet have hosted them 8 times.

The AFL fixtures are full of little imbalances and oddities like these which should be ironed out over time, but aren't.

There was a thread ages ago, where someone had gone through and show that you can have 22 games per team and have everyone play everyone and even number of times over like 4-5 year span.

There's no excuse for these imbalances outside of money.

The AFL refuse to put a fairer fixture in place because it will draw smaller crowds.

Frustrating AF.

A lot of effort needed to undo some of the off-field mistakes we have made over the last 20 years, but starting to really rate the work Basset is doing.

Choosing his successor is going to be a pivotal moment for us. Need a strong figure who understands when and where to pick a fight
I suggest we disguise Bassat and get him to run under another name. I suggest "Homer Incognito". Failing that, I have a back up plan.

We'll disguise him as Laura Kane and sneak him into AFL HQ. No one will notice if he does a bad job, and we get the advantage of handouts to a minor club in line with what "DEI" Laura does now for Norf.

I don't know how keen he'll be on the transvestite bit (not that there's anything wrong with that!), but it's worth a shot. At least we'll have someone working for us on the inside for once.

We just have to get rid of the real Laura. All suggestions are welcome and will be considered.

When you want the truth, just follow the money. The AFL has all the integrity of a P. T. Barnum freakshow.

"Roll up, roll up, all you suckers and hand over your money. Hurry along now, don't get in the way, there are plenty more of you to fleece!"

well 3 positives straight off the bat
1.both sa teams away and only once(no wasting a home game on teams we are completely inept against)
2.our double up 6 teams are pretty fair
3.rounds 6/7/8 games should coincide with me being in australia,4/5 as well,as i fxck off out of thailand befor sonkran, but those in adelaide, will have an option to go to a game, freo the most tantalizing of them & less of a crowd of the 3 games(im not a people person)

Tough start to the year again. AT least we arent also being screwed over with short breaks.

Double ups - Richmond is a big tick. Melbourne are hard to read and playing them in Alice isnt ideal but their record there is shaky so maybe it can work in our favour. Playing GWS twice and neither and a home game suck. Need to break even in the WB/Freo/Cats games which I do think we are capable of.

Travel - 2 WA trips is rough but our record at Optus is very good. No SCG game two years in a row is a win. No games in QLD is a win on field (sorry QLD supporters). Ending the season at an empty GWS stadium is a bit flat.

2 MCG games is the bare minimum so thats alright. An away Marvel game against Collingwood is always a strange one.

Overall, more bad than good but thats expected these days.

Looks tough to me. Round 7 Lions at Marvel off a 6 day break against a 9 day break. 3 trips to Adelaide in the first five weeks. Yeah, looks like another reaming.
Not too worried about the Adelaide games tbh....Adelaide are gettable...and we don't beat Port where ever we play them. And surely can't complain too much about a plane trip to Adelaide. I personally think the draw isn't that bad....I give it a 7.5/10.

You weren't wrong!

Doubles against the Cats, Dogs, Dees, Dockers, Tigers & Giants.

The GWS double makes me laugh because we are the 'Home' team in Gather round then have to play them away in Sydney at the end of the year.

How ****ing hard is it to have the Gather Round games as one of, NEUTRAL, matches?!?

I also love that we have a home game against the Blues AT THE MCG!?!

Carlton 100% requested that change because of how well we match them at Marvel. Shit that the club accepts it because it'll be a bigger crowd.

**** off.

Hope Bassett lines them up again TBH. Might as well go full Trump psycho at this point at call out ALL of the bullshit...
considering we finished in the middle 6 bracket, our double ups could have been worse.

You're right, our 1 MCG home game being against the blues is disgusting.

for me thats the only way to see the adelaide games,we are totally useless against both clubs every time we play them no matter where, huge favour getting them once only and away

That draw is fine.

Sure the Adelaide trips to start the year aren’t ideal. But everyone is going to be Adelaide in round 5. Might work better for us having stayed the week if we so choose to. We’re always going to cop high interstate travel, that’s just our lot. Nothing too out of the ordinary except a trip to the NT, and we get the

Exposure wise it seems good. Couple of back to back Fridays. A Thursday. Let’s hope everyone turns up to Easter Sunday night, despite it not being our home game, and try make it something. Could become somewhat of a marquee match…

Either way, the fixture can only seriously be judged in hindsight. We need to win regardless. An easier draw may sneak us into the 8 but hide the true cracks. We want and need to be a premiership contender and that means beat anyone anywhere.

We must have played the most Adelaide games out of any non-Adelaide team at this point. It's ridiculous, doesn't help that we've never learnt how to play there.

Crows & Port would ask for home games against us because they are a good chance of a win and as a result draw good crowds. The extra $$$ makes the AFL giddy.

I might go the NT Game.

Not happy
Norwood

Pricks
We were never going to get drawn at Adelaide oval as we aren't going to draw the big crowds based on our 2024 form.
So we basically got what the SANFL consider as their best ground for spectators.

If you actually went to Norwood oval for gather round last year, you would have seen its just outside the CBD. The Parade at Norwood has a great atmosphere - and they are putting on a food and wine festival on the same day as our game next year. I loved the intimate nature of the oval which actually is conducive to a creating a great atmosphere if the game is good.

Norwood oval way easier to get to than the unused open-air oval at Mt Barker with its temporary stands - and we are yet to see what they do with the proposed venue in the Barossa - which was not used last year because it was deemed not up to scratch. Good luck to those teams' supporters driving up to the Barossa for an hour, only to find a huge traffic bottleneck in that the little village town in the Barossa hosting the game. I cant wait to hear how many of them miss the start of the game.

Im delighted and relieved we aren't drawn at either of those 2 other venues.
i enjoyed being at Norwood oval last year and cant wait for tickets to go on sale for gather round again.
Great result.

i didnt want adelaide oval

Collingwood are contractually obligated to host 2 home games at Marvel, one of which must be against a Victorian team.

So we always get a home game there against one of North, Bulldogs or Saints.
That contract is very frustrating. While getting to play you guys on our ground might be seen as a bonus, it would be better for our players to get another game on the MCG or for us to be getting the gate receipts of a 40k crowd instead of hosting Freo and GC where the crowd will be less than that combined.
