44 million redevelopment

but good luck navigating the bottle neck

the towns called Lyndoch Zzzed
"and we are yet to see what they do with the proposed venue in the Barossa - which was not used last year because it was deemed not up to scratch. Good luck to those teams' supporters driving up to the Barossa for an hour, only to find a huge traffic bottleneck in that the little village town in the Barossa hosting the game. I cant wait to hear how many of them miss the start of the game."

just LOL

You weren't wrong!

Doubles against the Cats, Dogs, Dees, Dockers, Tigers & Giants.

The GWS double makes me laugh because we are the 'Home' team in Gather round then have to play them away in Sydney at the end of the year.

How ****ing hard is it to have the Gather Round games as one of, NEUTRAL, matches?!?

I also love that we have a home game against the Blues AT THE MCG!?!

Carlton 100% requested that change because of how well we match them at Marvel. Shit that the club accepts it because it'll be a bigger crowd.

**** off.

Hope Bassett lines them up again TBH. Might as well go full Trump psycho at this point at call out ALL of the bullshit...
Your Carlton theory is way off the mark. We request an MCG home game v a big Melbourne Club every year. Last two years it was Ess/Coll, this year its Carlton. We actually want 3-4 MCG home games but until we have more drawing power there they'll only fixture us there v big clubs.

How is playing GWS away a hard draw....they have what 3,000 polite fans wondering where they are ffs. If we are any good we shouldn't be worried about that road trip.

Totally agree with Robbo there, I'm just going by his headline and first paragraph though, I'm not paying to read his full article.

I don't think our fixture is all that bad, we have had worse, but it's clear us making finals isn't a priority for the AFL like Carlton.

And what’s your point exactly ?

Somehow that $44m shortens the 1 hour drive and the traffic and parking nightmare that will be there for unsuspecting gather round visitors?

And while you are at , why don’t you tell us how much they spent on the white elephant oval at Mt Barker ? Im glad we don’t have to drive up the freeway to sit in their temporary stands.

We know that they are spending money redeveloping Lyndoch oval. The SA premier wanted footy in the Barossa last year. My point is that outside of Adelaide Oval , we got the next best option . I’m not exactly sure what your point is.

We were never going to get drawn at Adelaide oval as we aren't going to draw the big crowds based on our 2024 form.
So we basically got what the SANFL consider as their best ground for spectators.

If you actually went to Norwood oval for gather round last year, you would have seen its just outside the CBD. The Parade at Norwood has a great atmosphere - and they are putting on a food and wine festival on the same day as our game next year. I loved the intimate nature of the oval which actually is conducive to a creating a great atmosphere if the game is good.

Norwood oval way easier to get to than the unused open-air oval at Mt Barker with its temporary stands - and we are yet to see what they do with the proposed venue in the Barossa - which was not used last year because it was deemed not up to scratch. Good luck to those teams' supporters driving up to the Barossa for an hour, only to find a huge traffic bottleneck in that the little village town in the Barossa hosting the game. Im delighted and relieved we aren't drawn at either of those 2 other venues.
i enjoyed being at Norwood oval last year and cant wait for tickets to go on sale for gather round again.
Great result.

Cheers for the post.

Realistically at that time, how far away from Adelaide Oval is the Norwood Oval?

I went with a group of mates the first year of Gather Round and thankfully we played at the AO that year. We’re heading in again next year and am hoping to do all AO and Norwood Oval games. But they haven’t left us much room town wise to get from one oval to the other.

If we must play in the weird Gothic town that is Adelaide, at least it's over by round 5. I went to the game against Richmond at Norwood last year and it was a good experience.

The ground itself was like an old suburban ground of the VFL in the 80s. Windy Hill, Whitten Oval, and Arden Street came to mind.

We should treat it like any other away game. At least we have played there before, so we know what to expect. A crowd around 10,000 will be a bonus and make the atmosphere great. Go sainters! Anywhere, anytime, anyone!

Everyone above us on ladder this year is a problem, and everyone below us can be a problem. We need to get our sh&t happening in 2025 against those who beat us this year. We should pickup at least three or fours more wins next season, otherwise Lyon gets the boot IMO

It's that we play them twice but don't get a home game.

The Gather Round games should be the only time those teams play each other, apart from the SA teams having a possible away game later in the year.

That the SA teams effectively get an extra home game because of the round was already discussed last year but if it's also taking home games away from other clubs then then it's even worse management!

That will happen because of gather round

Getting Adelaide in Adelaide first? Oh Adelaide fans must be licking their lips like a cat looking at the fridge and hearing the tapping of human feet in a nearby hallway at 7 in the morning.

Although I confess, I think we would be super fragile and nervous even against North (edit: OK, any team BUT North or Richmond) at Marvel first round.

That’s because this is Ross Lyon’s defining season. Like a 3 match cricket series. We won the first, lost the second and now it’s the decider.

(Adelaide have clobbered us in Adelaide twice under RTB already, and notably, when Adelaide were pretty bad.)

And EDIT#2
Check out the match report vs Adelaide Rnd 18
Utterly miserable
The nadir of the new RTB…just wanted to use the word ‘nadir’ cos I don’t know how it’s pronounced, but you get the drift ..by this stage, our spirits are a pancake run over by a pancake truck!
Hill missing
It showed just how bad we are
Owens and Membrey 8 possessions - between them!!
Higgins and Butler 1 behind - between them

I think some decisions were made.

Carlton, Pies and Essendon better be shit next year, only way I'm tuning into their designated priority Thurs/Fri timeslot. Blues ****ing 7 Thurs/Fri games between R1 and R10. Can't escape the campaigners. Earned they say.
At least it gives you someone to barrack against ... will enjoy watching Blues players get injured and seeing their sooking supporters cry

Shocker Gold Coast got a great fixture again. The AFL is running out of ways to lock them into the finals. Maybe the AFL just needs to give them a spot in the 8 and the rest of the teams can compete for the other 7 spots in the 8.

Also, Great to see Essendon and Collingwood rewarded for their excellent 2024 seasons with heavy prime time fixtures.

Living interstate I will be in Melbourne on the 7th taking an international flight out of the country.

I have the opportunity to see my my first St Kilda home game since 2010.

We will be playing Hawthorn at Marvel at an unknown date and time.

3 marvel games that weekend including North vs dogs and dons vs Suns. So a good chance 1 of these games will be a Thursday or Friday night.

The week before (Rd 17) we play Freo presumably on a Saturday or Sunday.

Marvel the week after ( Rd 18)

What day will St kilda play in round 17?
Take your bets.

Ps. Rolling fixtures suck.

Looks tough to me. Round 7 Lions at Marvel off a 6 day break against a 9 day break. 3 trips to Adelaide in the first five weeks. Yeah, looks like another reaming.
9 days is a long break at the beginning of the season.
Too long maybe? Hopefully.

considering we finished in the middle 6 bracket, our double ups could have been worse.

You're right, our 1 MCG home game being against the blues is disgusting.
Last year it was against the Pies.
We’ll get big $$$ for it.

Nah, this is Adelaide Oval games:

138: Port Adelaide
133: Adelaide
22: Richmond
21: Geelong
19: Melbourne, Hawthorn
18: GWS, St Kilda, West Coast
16: Western Bulldogs
15: Essendon, Fremantle
14: Brisbane, Sydney
13: Collingwood
11: Gold Coast, North Melbourne
9: Carlton

No idea why Carlton are so low tbh.
Because sholitloads of Blues fans go to home games in Victoria?
