Science is for cucks. When I am President all player decisions will be based on gut feel. That's how real clubs work. And also, I'm bringing back/repurposing that waterslide idea at Princes Park that David Smorgon had back in the day. But I'm going to make it a roller-coaster. With Wiggo coming on board as the driver. He's the best qualified train driver who understands the carlton way. If you don't support me you aren't a real supporter.
I will only vote for the candidate who offers to rewrite the laws of physics to benefit Carlton players.

Yea? Well I will hire the team that found the Titanic and get them to locate and recover the Blues Hovercraft, restore it back to glory, get Sauce to pilot it, get Elon to strap some rockets onto it, and send it to Mars to place down a Carlton flag and claim the entire planet on behalf of the club. All incoming players will get financial incentives for Mars plots of land like Geelong has done with their players for 2 decades.

Sayers at least sounds like he's up to speed. But fair dinkum what are we doing here? And how on gods earh can we expect to play finals next year with a brand new coach? Even if it was Clarko. I just can't see that happening. It's going to have to be the mutha of all pre seasons for us to come out and be solidly competitive off the bat. Seems like Ross Lyons is the red hot fave which quite frankly really really irks me. I don't know what it is. I think he had a clue for a while there, particularly when he was at the saints but now I can just see this becoming Malthouse all over again. I actually think Buckley would be a better bet. Or even Voss. At least has been there and done it.

The Media have piled on as you'd expect but in the end it's a cut throat biz and Teague just coudnt get the job done. There was a golden opportunity there for him too. But that early loss to the pies, the norf and GC losses and the power smashing were just too much. If the group was truly united a finals position was there for taking, it really was, and we'd be having a totally different conversation right now. Even 2-3 wins would've got it done for Teague. The chance was there...but he and the playing group blew it.

And that's what it comes down to. You MUST make it happen. DO or DO NOT there is no try.

I do agree with most in that the playing list is still tidy enough to be in the 8. I mean look at the bombers.? We've got 2 guys in the AA squad (should've be 3) and all in all we've got some really good young blokes coming thru. The tweak i would make would be makng weeto captain. Cripps needs less weight on his shoulders in every sense. IN a fitness sense and in a responsibilty sense. As for the Doc a the leadership role has gone past him aside from his health issues (absolutely wish him all the best there).

But for mine, we need a coach who's an out and out leader. We're begging for it. The players are begging for it. We need some hardness and we need the blues 'fork you' attitude back. It's been missing for too long. Listening to Sayers I heard a bit of that.

IMO...
Sayers has now made the hard decisions and followed the reviews findings.

He now needs to bring the whole club back together as ONE...
  • We are a small organisation 155 people. All areas of the business should be working together towards a common purpose.
  • Create a whole club purpose, managers to set their way of operating around the purpose.
  • President to the ground staff should be approachable and available to other areas of the business (No more players on a pedestal)
  • Create an open safe environment where people can voice their opinions without being scared to do so.
  • Lead the AFL in this area of one club.

Care to share the story?

Coach takes the fall ... scapegoat/hung out to dry - whatever you want to call it ... no acknowledgement from board for their role in what can only be labelled repeated poor decisions. Rinse and repeat.

As an aside, Clarkson showed more class towards David Teague than anyone at Carlton.

Does anyone seriously believe Teague wasn’t finished 6 weeks ago, possibly earlier?

The review is Sayers tool to implement a range of changes he’s basically already determined.

Cant shoot everyone at once because he hasn’t lined up all the replacements.

could work out, could fail.

You think he went to the Reviewers and I want these 25+ recommendations.

I think he had a fair idea what key outcomes would be.

But he wants improvements and the team to get better so it wouldn't surprise me that there were a few unexpected findings.

Seems like he's going to be a bit more of a media presence than MLG

Key issue is this is actually Liddle's job. Every single one of these points. Thus why he needs to go.

Sayers took responsibility for Teague's appointment. Rewatch the presser.

How many directors on the board remain from Bolton and Teague appointments?

I don't think our statements are all that far apart, Gav.

1000% agree with this. I'm not confident that's what will happen, but that's what needs to happen.

We already seem to be following the familiar pattern of skipping process, bringing in big-name, strong-personalities which has led to us having a tense, fractious and disjointed organisation. Williams appointed into a role that seems way beyond anything we've seen from him before, for instance. The seemingly inevitable appointment of Ross Lyon. Egos and loud voices everywhere.

It's no surprise that Teague and Bolton - younger, quieter, less-alpha characters - got chewed up and spat out and proved ineffective in the CFC environment. There's a pretty consistent pattern of young players not developing well, too, as favourite sons and "established stars" seem to survive no matter what they do.

It will take tremendous leadership from Sayers to out-muscle all the other loud-voices in the organisation whilst also allowing that collaborative, constructive, open culture that's needed for the team to actually perform better.

I have my fingers crossed. I am not optimistic, though. I don't yet feel the club has really learned what's needed, nor got the will to change. Debbie Downer, I know, but it's just all been said and seen so many times before.

My view is that the people who usually recover (coaches) get sacked to make a statement & the people who can hurt the one doing the sacking "leave to pursue other opportunities"

For all we know Liddle & Lloyd could be working through a long notice period & go in the off season. That doesn't mean they haven't been punted, they will just get the ninja death instead of the public execution.

IMO... Sayers seems like the President that could achieve it, looks a strong leader...

Watching him yesterday, Sayers strikes me as one who thinks, and perhaps knows, he is the smartest person 'in the room'. Andrew Demetriou was the same.

From experience in business, these types of leaders do have a knack of putting people in their place or having people defer to them and so hopefully Sayers can unite the board behind his leadership. Funnily enough the younger John Elliott was similar before he became a drunken old buffoon !!

I agree we need leadership. We need people inside the club who are willing to follow a leader, too.

I do wonder whether we need to see more people thrown out of the club for not toe-ing the line - whether that be a player or other position within the club. Get on board or GTFO. Might need a few heads on spikes to show we're serious.

It seems we always have so many egos and individuals doing their own thing there's a massive lack of cohesion, cooperation, collaboration, congruency and all those other good c-words.

Start with Mathieson, please.

I was willing to give him time.. but now I am concerned.
