I loathe when someone mentions "chocolates", as in, the Hawks took home the chocolates or Sydney should get the chocolates. I think i hear it every week moreso on radio.

Why the F**k are teams bringing home chocolates and why the F**k would they care about playing for Chocolates, And what type of chocolates are they anyway? Are we talking about Red Tulip Easter eggs or a whittakers hazelnut slab?

And what about games in Brisbane and Perth? These so called chocolates would melt and be rendered useless anyway

Benny Hudson seems to keep the chocolates cool. Watch any of his coaching interviews.

Versing. Never ever heard this term growing up, but the kids say it all the time. 'We are versing the Hawks this week'. Makes my ears bleed.

And Derwayne - 'It doesn't get any better than that'. Well yes Derwayne, it does. About 50 times a game according to you
It sounds like something 5 year olds say, that has somehow progressed to teenagers/young adults. Bizarre.

"It's great for the competition to have [team x] doing so well...." especially when it is sprouted by the top brass of the organisation. Obviously team x usually refers to one of the "big clubs".

Just reeks of the competition having lost it's integrity.

I remember Demetriou coming out after the first weekend of finals in '12 or '13 and saying that the fact that Geelong and Collingwood lost was not good for the comp and would result in big losses in revenue. With all his meddling in the Essendon saga, swept Tippet-gate and Melbourne-tanking under the carpet, is it hard to fathom that he could have swayed results during his tenure to maximise profits? You look at the state of umpiring now and when he was in charge, and some of the decisions make you go hmmmm.

Another fine example of why the game is breaking records at the box offices whilst the state of the game continues to decline.

Regardless of whether he did sway results or not it was an alarming comment for a head of an organisation to make but went unnoticed.

What do you mean when you say 'swept Tippett-gate under the carpet'?

I agree with the rest of your assertions

Well, $300k fine to you guys was a drop in the ocean.

Suspensions to Trigg and the other 2, what effect did that have really? Was pretty lame.

Tippet misses only half a year of footy. Do you think he really cared? Can't see that as a measure to stop him from doing it again.

The only real penalty was the loss of the first 2 draft picks which by Carlton standards was meek.

Personally I don't think the AFL could have gone too hard on the Crows seeing that they signed off on Judd getting payments outside the salary cap. How can you have one rule for one player and another rule for the rest of the comp? I wouldn't be surprised if the penalty was "negotiated" between the Crows and AFL (similar to the negotiations between the AFL, Essendon and Hird) with the Crows threatening to challenge and use Judd as ammunition in court hearings if the AFL came down too hard on them.

Anyhoo, I don't want to derail the thread into a Tippetgate s-fight so will be happy to leave it at your next response.

It was first two draft picks for two consecutive drafts, and considering the offense was, by Carlton standrards, meek, it was probably fair enough - I mean the crows didnt even break their salary cap -

But yes that's for another thread

Shake and bake.
It's almost like any two words that rhyme or can be said together quickly are popular amongst the commentary team.

Shake and bake
Mix and match
Duck and weave
Game of two halves
Good team on paper

With regards to cricket the channel 9 commentary team normally come up with some awful ones. I have a personal dislike for 'jagged off the deck'.

Sacrosanct.

As in "the head is sacrosanct." (After this week it's obviously not.)

Thanks to the AFL it's now the biggest word that bogans know… a pity there's no other context for them to use it in.

Bit like when coppers use the word "de-camp" in TV interviews. "The suspect de-camped from the scene in a North-Westerly direction."

No-one uses word like this in everyday life.

Picky but I hate

"he takes the ball at its highest point"

To me the highest point of the ball is about 10m off the ground in the middle of the kick and the player is actually

"taking the ball at HIS highest point"

Firstly, yes. To all of the above.

On the international stream, the way one of the dumb-arse ex-players - usually "duck" or "Lingy" - makes some comment after a goal is kicked while the umpires bring the ball back to the middle.

Then, presumably, after a tap on the shoulder, they repeat the same frigging thing once the "with ads" version of the coverage is back from the break.

Sometimes it happens three times in a match! I mean, FFS, either remember to wait, or think of something new to say. How hard can it be?
