There's a lot I don't like but "shake and bake" is great to hear.

Dwayne is often popularising exciting new phrases and I'm always pleased when he is commentating a Roos game. One of the best in the business.
Dwayne is representative of EVERYTHING wrong with commentary. When a total flog can even out flog even himself...

I hate:

"He's a jet" argh "Jet" cant f**** stand that saying.

"Oh they're out here"

Also hate anything that comes out of Dwayne Russell's mouth:
"Chaos ball"
"He can be the hero"
"Makes it someone else's problem"
"Gold class"
"If you've just joined us..........."
"Phenomenal"

Skinny side and fat side. I dont even know what sport that was taken from but in the context of our game it is simply moronic.

It was taken from basketball. Another derivation is "strong side and weak side". Very relevant to basketball tactics, but not in Aussie Rules as you've identified. Most of the annoying sayings have been taken from other sports because they sound "cool", not because they have any relevance to football. "Shake and bake" is a classic example. It's used to describe a particular play in basketball. Not the slightest bit relevant to footy either.

I guess it is just an admission that none of the modern commentators come close to Lou Richards who was responsible for introducing so much of the football lingo, as well as a huge number of brilliantly funny and apt nicknames.

Commetti never bothered with the stupid foreign sporting terms did he? Ive noticed Bruce is now using them.

The interesting thing is it's not just footy who is trying to develop an entirely new language. I was heavily into basketball for many years (coach and player) and about 10 years ago lost interest in the sport. Last year I began watching NBA again, and for the first month or so I had no idea what they were talking about. I'm sure if someone had been away from footy for 10 years and started watching again, they would have no idea what the commentators were on about.
