Continued in Part 2

Was at the game and thought our players were great. Heart was in my mouth every time Cameron went for a specky. He really covered a lot of ground tonight and really showed his speed. Neale is a gun and Steph fabo. Though Andrews first half was good. Was near the interchange so watched the players having a laugh for the Mexican wave. Charlie was getting a lot of work on his lower legs at one stage so hope alls good. lovely to sit and focus on our boys tonight. Feeling good about the year. Stupid Collingwood supporter behind me kept asking his mate who Neale was and spent ages telling his mate that Molloy in the womens game was Jarrod Molloys daughter. Looking forward to footy being back and all the wacky supporters that come with it.

my favourite part of the night when Hodge said something to the effect of "talk about egos on the field, but they are bigger here in the box" and then BT (i think) replied "shut up Hodgey" :D

in all seriousness, Hodgey is what i hoped Roos would be as a commentator. Roos just gets a bit too negative sometimes

Plus I think Victoria would dominate SOO. WA might be ok but SA and an Allies team would be pretty average.

A great game to watch. Showed all the skills elite players are capable of except goal kicking by the Allies team.
In the modern game coaches won't allow this style of play.
So come round 1 expect the same or similar type of game style we saw in 2019.
As Pendlebury said in an after game interview "this game would have been a nightmare for defenders".
Most importantly for all Club fans no obvious injuries for the game.

What an exhibition of our game. It was not there was no pressure, it was just the skills were so good the opposition had no chance.

Would love to see this as the intro to footy every year, with a different Australian charitable cause the beneficiary. The players would que up to play in this rather than another pre-season game.

Yes and the injuries objection would be moot given players can also be injured during a pre season game or even an intra club match

Players would be keen. Coaches might be anti if these players don’t get to play in both preseason games as they’d prefer the opportunity to practice game plan execution

Are there any/many players currently in the AFL who have done an acl and had a knee reconstruction, who are playing to the same standard as they were before doing their knee?

Daniel Rich.

Matt Suckling & Taylor Walker did their ACL in 2013 both played good footy after recovery time.
Tom Liberatore to a lesser extent
I am sure their are some others.
Returning from an ACL is hard enough, but maintaining your previous good performance would be difficult.
But it is an interesting question.

I think most seem to get back to as good as they were these days after a couple of years, but many weren't stars to begin with. If you've had a couple or more it's a different story and you can definitely see impacts on speed and agility.

Yeah, it’s the speed and agility that I am thinking about, in regards to the injury to Elijah Holland’s.

We wouldn’t have had a chance at him pre injury. But if the Port pick comes in the top 10, and he slides somewhat in the draft, is he too good to pass on.

He’s the type that would potentially round out our midfield, and give us another classy user, along with McCluggage.

What was the injury to Callum Bartlett pre draft?
ACL very early in his final year in u/18 footy, hence why he slid to our pick in the 20's.

That being said, I have no idea how highly rated he was heading into his final year of junior footy, but the talk was a top 10 pick.

Just couldn't come on despite every one really wanting him to.

Was starting to show signs the year he got Delisted I thought💭

Yeah I too thought he was stiff to not get a senior game in the end. I lived up in Brisbane for a year in two when Cal played and from memory he sort of had a bit of Corey Lyons about him; good at NEAFL level but just couldn’t force his way in.

Had pretty much lost what pace he had unfortunately.

Cal’s draft year reco came up fine; it was the second one he had when he was already with us that went awry. Geez, he was good to watch.

I though the was great early on. Then he did the knee again and even worse then he went to Carlton
