A FOOTBALL fan is recovering in hospital after a savage beating inside the MCG last night during the Carlton versus Collingwood match.
Steven Eglezos, 41, of Glenroy, was watching his team Carlton lose to Premiers Collingwood when he decided to leave early with his two teenage children.
As he walked from the Olympic Stand, he confronted a group of five men who he said were hurling abuse at two elderly ladies.
He was then brutally attacked from behind leaving him with extensive injuries including a broken jaw, several smashed teeth and temporary blindness in his right eye.
"The old ladies looked intimidated and were shaking with fear. I said to the guys, 'Show a bit of respect, it's only a game' and then I was hit on the head from behind.
"As I collapsed they all jumped on top of me, kicking and punching. My children were screaming. I feared for our lives,'' he said.

This was up behind from where I was sitting. I saw the son of the man screaming up at some guys. About 15 minutes later when the siren went finally some security guards came running up the steps looking for the attackers, the victom was being treated outside the aisle entrance with a swollen eye and blood all over his face with his kids scared and crying.

I can't believe they bashed this man, and then they just continued to watch the footy, the crowd did nothing.... would have been a terrible sight for young kids.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

I'm guessing they were Collingwood supporters? No doubt out on the terps. Regardless, big men eh!! This nonsense is unforgiveable. That no-one did anything is just as disturbing to me. I've known of people involved in hit-runs (as victims) during peak hour where no-one has bothered stopping and it is, quite honestly, heinous. It's an indictment that no-one is willing to man up in these situations (bar the man that confronted the morons in the first place) and do the right thing. A very sad situation I can only hope is not repeated.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

If they catch the morons that did this, they should be banned from AFL games, and the MCG for life.

Disgusting act, to bash a bloke in front of his two daughters.:mad:

I'm not sure mate, the victom said they were yelling at two old ladies so could be anyone, even drunk nuetrals who knows. Whats surprising is about 5,000 people turned around to see this happen and yet these thugs weren't stopped. I only noticed the crowd turn to look and I saw a teenage kid yelling and went down the stairs (I thought he was some young trouble maker turned out to be the victoms son

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Yeah, it's really not a reflection on the football club or its supporters, more on modern society. Pricks are only game to jump in when they outnumber the 'other/s'.

And to think noone called the cops? What the **** is wrong with people these days?

And this happened behind the OP right?

Really it's irrelevant. Whatever colours these thugs were wearing doesn't change the fact that it was a dog act.

You're not wrong. I'm only young but I was always taught that if I fought that it was between me and whoever there was an issue with. If my mates got in a barney - one on one - to let them settle it between themselves and whoever they had an issue with. At the end you'd buy a brew for one another and that was it. Sorted. There are too many "heroes" willing to cane a person when they are in the advantage. Gutless act.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

And this happened behind the OP right?

About 10 rows behind me somewhere, I was listening to trippleM so I missed out on the commotion and only noticed when most of the crowd turned around. All I saw was that teenage kid yelling as he went down the stairs. I was very suprised to see the security guards running up after the final siren but this was atleast 10-15 minutes after the incident happened, this was when I saw the victim being treated by the medics outside the aisle entrance.

And yes I agree with a one-on-one scuffle thing, but this looks like to be a suprise attack and of course todays tradtion of getting the group of weak mates to help you fight the individual

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

ridiculous 7.50 start time & a steamy night wouldn't have helped matters. atmosphere was pretty charged at the ground all night tbh.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

What is happening to the supporters of AFL this is esculated on what I was roasting about last week. The group of Carlton supporters last week no one said boo to as this is what can happen. Truely is a disgrace not just the bashing but the verbal abuse to elderly woman also can not be overlooked.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Who they support is completely irrelevant Collingwood/Carlton or neutral. It's a blight on people who attend games in general. Not going to chastise the OP as it's clear he didn't see the incident entirely unfurl or know what was going on until after the fact. However the people that did witness it and did nothing should be completely and utterly ashamed of themselves.

Saying this here as I don't believe in all honesty that any decent person would have done it regardless of club affiliation.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Five rock apes abuse two old ladies and then get stuck into a man with two kids. Real heroic stuff. Give me 5 minutes alone in a room with any one of them and let's see how tough they really are.

You'd just like to see them identified, stick their faces in the paper to shame them and have them barred from attending any AFL matches in the future.

Rock apes is a good description. Those poor kids will be damaged by seeing their old man bashed like this...they'll never get that image out of their minds.

It's very hard to imagine the psyche you'd need to have, to be one of five guys viciously attacking a dad in front of his two kids, because he did no more than have the guts to chip them for abusing a couple of older ladies.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

It is absolutely irrelevant what club they were following, they are absolute dogs who deserve nothing less than a couple of swift kicks/baseball bats to the head.
Seriously what an absolutely mongrel thing to do, bash a bloke because he told them to pull their head in and stop abusing a couple of elderly women.

Weak as f****n piss, society is seriously f***ed with these rats that we call youths (I assume it was a group of youths) and are meant to be the future, I am ashamed to be apart of this age group to be honest.

Anyone that was there (I wasn't) could/should have stepped in to help this poor guy.
I understand the OP not stepping in as he had no idea of what was going on, but what about the people that were sitting RIGHT fu**ing there? They should be ashamed of themselves aswell really.

It is just rediculous, someone should just beat the shit out of them and see how they like it, they deserve it.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Sadly nobody wants to be the first one to step in. Guaranteed if one bloke had the balls to run in and fight for the poor bloke, plenty of the public would've followed. Everyone just assumes someone else will do it.

Honestly flabbergasted that not one person ended up stepping in though. Doesn't reflect that well on society.

Yeah, that's one of my main points, I just can't believe that EVERY SINGLE PERSON that must have been LITERALLY right there, just let it go.

It's disgraceful in my opinion.

I can tell you the psyche. Lack of discipline in their lives, both self and imposed, mixed with a cocktail of booze and/or drugs. I'm sick of this sort of crap in society, and it's getting worse because we do nothing to stop nor punish it.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Digusting act, and I really hope these guys were just bandwagon supporters and not members of our great club. Stuff like this really damages the reputation the rest of us try to build. Hopefully the police come down on them and treat them to the full extent of the law (knowing this won't happen, would love to see the MCG ban them for life and Collingwood ban them from any form of membership.)

As much as this frustrates me as a supporter of the club and how I have outlined the points above, the bigger issue is how this once again demonstrates the alcohol fuelled violence culture of Melbourne. Most of us can go out and overindulge on drinks and then you get clowns like this this not only verbally harass vulnerable people, but also physically assault a person trying to help these people.

As a passionate Magpie I would love to apologise on behalf of our club.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Reading this story makes me sick to my stomach. I seriously hope that those scum bags get what they deserve! The thing that scares me the most is that my own father would be the sort of person that would tell those thugs to pull their heads in as well, those poor kids would not be able to get those images out of their heads. The fact that alot of people just stood by and watched this happen is scary while the security took nearly 50 years to do anything!

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

It's disgusting this sort of thing is still happening, let alone inside the stadium with kids around. These type of people should receive life time bans from attending matches, they're not wanted.

As for nobody stepping in, I guess people are too scared to be attacked themselves, especially against a group of people. You would think security would have been there quicker though. Hopefully they were caught on camera.

Re: Footy fan bashed at MCG

Bunch of w@nkers. Most likely band wagoners.
I go every week and I have 3 kids with me.
The last think I would want is pricks like that attacking me for no reason.
I along with the rest of my family are AFL Members and most people in that section are well behaved. I go to matches because I enjoy the game. I hate Carlton, but would never physically attack another supporter.
I would have these pricks locked up and banned for life from attending another match.
