I doubt that he has come out of retirement..

Just out of interest Swanny, which bit of the above AFL media release with Fraser Gehrig's name on it do you doubt?

Do you think a St Kilda official drove his nomination into the AFL today because he wanted to sample the pie shop on the corner?

Fraser has said that he will only return to play for the Saints and no-one else. The rest of the St Kilda playing group have been informed this afternoon.

Looks like we'll take him with a late pick in the draft.

can't do that. If Dogs take him (or anyone with an earlier draft pick) then it is off to the kennel he goes or else it is over for the big G Train.

'G-Train' nominates for NAB AFL National Draft

RETIRED St Kilda full-forward Fraser Gehrig is a shock nomination for the NAB AFL National Draft after "a change of heart".

Gehrig, who will be 32 at the beginning of the 2008 season, announced his retirement just before the Round 22 clash with Richmond this season.

St Kilda CEO Archie Fraser said Gehrig approached the club and told them he had had "a change of heart" and wanted to return to the Saints.

Fraser said Gehrig contacted the club and asked what the process was for entering the Draft.

He said Gehrig understood there was no guarantee he would be selected by the Saints on Saturday. St Kilda has four selections at the Draft - picks 9, 42, 57 and 70

Gehrig has played 255 games and kicked 540 goals for the Saints and West Coast, and was among officially delisted players who nominated for the National Draft before the 2pm deadline on Wednesday.

Former West Coast premiership player Daniel Chick has also nominated for the Draft, along with a host of other delisted AFL players including Essendon trio Mark Johnson, Kepler Bradley and Richard Cole, Collingwood’s Guy Richards, Richmond’s Andrew Krakouer, West Coast’s Ashley Sampi and Fremantle’s James Walker.

Walker flew out of Perth yesterday to join the crew of Round The World race yacht westernaustralia2011.com on the leg from Durban, South Africa. The yacht is due back to Fremantle between December 16-20.

The following delisted players have nominated for Saturday's Draft:

Adelaide - John Hinge, Darren Pfeiffer.

Brisbane Lions - Marcus Allan, Patrick Garner.

Carlton - Craig Flint.

Collingwood - Guy Richards.

Essendon - Kepler Bradley, Richard Cole, Mark Johnson.

Fremantle - Clayton Collard, Ryley Dunn, Calib Mourish, James Walker.

Geelong - Stephen Owen, Matthew Spencer.

Hawthorn - Matt Little, Josh Thurgood.

Kangaroos - Blake Grima, Daniel McConnell, David Trotter, Callum Urch.

Melbourne - Ryan Ferguson, Simon Godfrey, Heath Neville.

Port Adelaide - Ryan Willits.

Richmond - Brent Hartigan, Andrew Krakouer, Carl Peterson.

St Kilda - Fraser Gehrig, Andrew McQualter, Phil Raymond, Justin Sweeney.

Sydney - Simon Phillips, Jonathan Simpkin, Luke Vogels.

West Coast - Daniel Chick, Ashley Sampi.

Western Bulldogs - Travis Baird, Damian McCormack, Tim Walsh.

Correct.

That's assuming the Dogs want to waste a draft pick on him if he refuses to play for them.

Honestly don't know why another club would bother taking him on board for one year given adjustment periods, game plans etc. etc.

Exactly. So Fraser can't just say where he wants to go and expect to get there.
This does have the potential to backfire on the Saints.

How will it backfire, he retired ???.

Either the Saints draft him and he plays for one more year, or another club drafts him with the risk he doesn't front up.

No skin of the Saints teeth either way.

He'll only play for st Kilda.. other teams can pick him up but he will end up not playing for them, you'd assume that nobody else will pick him up just to prevent st kilda from having him..

welcome back g

What about this possibility
West Cost Select him with one of the 5 top 20 picks they have as they need a full forward. Gehrig back at his old club. Decides he doesn't want to play for west coast, retires the day after getting picked.
