Wow, okay. Then where is the line drawn then? If a player walks out on the club (but has been around for fewer than 7 years) and forces a delisting (isn't traded) can he then go anywhere?
This makes no sense. A player cannot force a delisting. The club chooses whether or not to delist a player.

Didn't Luke Ball force St Kilda to delist him? That is the situation I am referring to.

Anyway, I have just read the rules on the AFL website, and recognise I was under the wrong impression. I was surprised to find that delisted players (regardless of tenure) are unrestricted free agents, but that is what it says.

Apologies to those whose word I questioned on this.

Ball walked, hence the tension of the night of the ND a few years ago.

Incidentally, my favourite night of all time on Bigfooty. Was just the best.

Yeah, well that is what I though. Delisted players don't become Free Agents. Only players eligible for Free Agency become free agents. So back to my point, Cook isn't a Free Agent, despite being delisted.

Millsy29 is saying that players with fewer than 7 years DO become Free Agents. Millsy, can you clarify?
Here is the quote from the AFL website:

A player has served seven seasons or fewer of AFL football at one club, and has been delisted by his club.
The player is a free agent and is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
The player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
The player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice.
His original club, which chose to delist him, does not receive any compensation pick for the loss of the player.

Yep, got it. Cheers.

This was on Twitter Tonight:

We are into Robbie Warnock and Stef Martin
problem with Warnock is that he is too one dimensional which makes him a waste of a pickup if Jolly decides to go on. Martin on the other would stand a good chance of playing in a side with Jolly as the second ruck/ forward. I've watched him a few times in the VFL and he looks a jet, have no idea we he doesn't get much of a run at Melbourne

I think we are in Need of a Forward/Ruck to play the leigh Brown role, my preferences would be Martin, Pedersen, Lynch depending on what they would cost.

I also think we need to inject some pace and class skills. A player who comes to mind that I think could be developed is Cruize Garlett from North. He's currently a fringe player and has shown glimpses of excellent footy, If we could land him cheap I think he could be someone to look at to play an outside runner/link-up man/Goal Sneak, seems to find alot of the pill in the VFL as well.

Apparantly, Myers, Gumbledon and Monfries have told Essendon they are leaving. I would love a fit Gumbledon, he has a great mark and isn't a bad kick at goal as well.

Heard Monfries is off to Melbourne reckon the other 2 will go back home to WA most Likely

Jonathan Giles has rejected a contract extension from GWS and is likley to move.

They have linked him to Adelaide but he could go anywhere I guess, god I hope we try and get him he would be great for us and he is only 24.

WOW! Really?
Would've thought he'd stay, considering they gave him a second chance at AFL.
Kind of owes it to them.

Yeah, so did I but I guess he doesn't want to spend time in a team that will be bottom for the next 2-3 years.

The website this news is on is sportnewsfirst.com.au.

Maybe he bolted after Choco left?

I think we need to take a look at him.

Like Myers as well. That kid has a serious kick on him.
