Carrol has shown very little, Binns has shown exactly nothing as a mid (think he will be a ripper but had 0 exposure as a mid)
Williams isn’t a mid, especially coming off a prolonged absence. Even Doc does sfa when he’s in the middle (stats don’t lie)

Really wish that anyone who can football a bit wasn’t then thrown up as a candidate to be a mid - it’s a specialist position, sure there’s some extremely talented small forwards who can rotate thru & kill it, but they are the elite (Papley, Greene etc) & an exception not the standard.

Im hoping E Hollands can come in and perform - but that’s hope, hasn’t got runs on the board but I think he’s an improvement on Cunners/Fog as a rotation
I do think Carroll showed a bit last year in the middle. I think we had a midfielder out so he got his shot and did well by memory but when the midfielder returned they tried to get him as high half forward and he didn't go so well. High H F is a tough gig

Also carroll is still only 20. I still have high hopes for him

Carroll was always going to be a slow burn

$600k now or ever is too much for Ben McKay.
Yeh I get some don’t rate him highly but I doubt there is any true key defender as good as him getting less then $600k atm especially one you get for free as a FA.
I think his injuries are also some what exaggerated. I read that since coming back into the side in 2020 at round 7 or something he has only missed 10 odd games, about the exact same as Harry over three and a half years.

Why would WC offer a high 3rd and early 4th round pick for Brockman, when they have pick 1 in the PSD.

I like the idea of being civil and good to deal with, but this seems very generous by WC
Because WC don't appear to be as mercenary as 'The Family Club'.
Boy is that club's culture going south very fast.

Those 1st could of games in the middle he seemed to have time and space like he had played 50+ games. I remember telling my daughter he's a 200 game player for us. I hope I'm right
Hope you're right.. I said the same about Jon Hynes once 😣

The crazy thing is as per the AFL compensation make up thingy, Ben McKay (who is an average defender but could become an above average KPD) is worth pick 3 for his old team and Lance Franklin was valued at pick 19 when he left the Hawks
When you spell it out like that - it's just plain wrong.
The AFL def have learn to keep the value of the player separate from the club's current predicament.

Doesn't matter, those that think trade week is about improving the list are over thinking it. It is for obnoxious Egophiles to prance around and show how tough their bargaining modus operandi is. (Not looking at anyone in particular Dordoro, SOS)
Dordoro 3 FA's
Carlton 0
* Dodoro beating us convincingly as it currently stands.....

Long may they never play finals whilst that knob is driving the recruiting bus.
I believe I heard on SEN that this is his last Draft as he is stepping aside from the job

VETERAN Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro will step back from his senior role at the Bombers after this year's national draft in another major change to the club's football department.

The move comes as former West Coast and Gold Coast player Matt Rosa joins in the position of AFL Talent & Operations Manager.

I mean Ben McKay who had done precious little at the Roos, Goldstein at 35 years of age, and Gresham who Saints fans are glad to see the back of. Duursma is the main one who might offer something if he gets his touch back, assuming the deal gets done of course.
Never mind his football ability, those eyebrows would have me calling for his head

WC already offering pick 44 for a player they could get for free is acting in fantastic faith, for the Hawks to knock it back is strange.

WC should have walked away and taken him for free.

I still think the Hawks finish bottom 6 next year, so their offer for pick 1 was actually quite generous.

I would have been tempted by that

Except it gave free reign for Sydney to pillage Hawthorn on that deal
The Buddy deal? Hawks certainly stiffed - but pick 19 is better than nothing (if compensation didn't exist). AFL would probably say that's an example of free agency working as designed. Player gets to go to club of their choice. Club gets compensated at a rate commensurate to their position on the ladder. But when it's applied to the best player in the comp leaving the premier side, pick 19 doesn't seem enough.

imo,(1) I don't like compensation as a starting point; but (2) if it has to be there, then the formula is wrong; (3) the acquiring club should bear the cost, or at least some of it.

Seperate to this, why is it the AFLs job to compensate clubs when a player leaves?
The argument is that it is necessary because the AFL differs from other sports in that clubs aren't allowed to trade contracted players without their consent.
The salary cap floor also limits poorer clubs ability to transform their list.

If we accept the above 2 limiting aspects, I think they really need to get rid of Restricted Free Agency, so we don't get debacles like Ben McKay and Gresham, where unreasonable contracts are manufactured in order to get clubs better compo.
And/or, I would change compo to only 3 bands to be taken End of 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds.
FA compensation ****s over 16 clubs in every deal. That would be lessened if the picks were all moved to the end of the round.
