Geez.

Half this thread sounds like toddlers crying over not getting new shiny toys, when we have an equivalent, or better version of the toy already.

Take * for example. If they get all of McKay, Goldstein, Grisham and Duursma. Does it even improve them? Goldstein is a backup ruck, are you going to play both of Draper and goldy? Unlikely. Duursma has been fringe at PA for the last two seasons. Hasn’t been the same player since the injuries started and he and Grisham are what they have a lot of already. The only plus is McKay and he has spent a lot of time not playing with injuries so there is a fairly big risk there.
It looks to me they are all in on trying to win the off season cup again.

Personally I’m wrapped Essendon are getting these B-C grade players and paying them handsomely. They will clog up their salary cap for the foreseeable future and keep them from prying out any of our key players when they come out of contract. Also it will ensure that Essendon never properly bottom out so they’ll be stuck in no man’s land with a list not capable of winning a flag for even longer. Same goes for St Kilda. Our list in contrast to both (and many) is in the sweet spot in terms of talent and age. I don’t think we have to do anything too drastic creative from here to win a flag and even if we do need a few pieces they are more around the edges rather than overpaying for Ben McKay or Jade Gresham or even Lachie Schultz. I can sense really good things are around the corner for us.

Hawks received picked 19 for Buddy.

How the * is Ben worth pick 3 compo pick!

What a farce!

It's a circus... nothing we don't already know.

We live in a world where policy and procedure overcome common sense.

It's quite obvious that there should be other factors to consider when making these decisions such as:

Number of games played
Career coaches votes
B&F finishes
Any other indicators that reflect the quality/contribution of the player and the on field impact they've had

I wouldn't be surprised if this is all part of the plan to merge them with Tassie...

Compo picks are stupid full stop.

But if they are going to exist, it should be based on the current club's contract offer - not what the receiving club offers.

You should be compensated for what you lose, not what for the other club is gaining. If you don't rate the player, why are you getting paid for losing them?

In theory you could be about to delist a player and get compensation for losing them... That's the insanity.

Overpaying for high-profile, never-quite-filled-potential type players with injury histories?

Because you have cap space to spend somewhere and can't attract genuine superstars?

Sounds like Carlton of 3-4 years ago.

And that's not a good place to be... Unless it's *, and then it's a GREAT place to be!!!

With everything going on I would hope that we are at least having conversations with names like Duursma, Henry, Brockman to see exactly where they are at. You never know
isn't the Brockman request about family & support, has super young twins or something like that.

The general sentiment I still agree with, even if not for any reality of it happening but to at least put some more pressure on the nominated clubs, try and increase the trade/contract value, etc.

The FOMO sentiments on here reminds me of how a couple of years ago plenty on here were convinced that Brander was potentially the solution to all of our problems .
I don't remember that but I do remember all the out of proportion insistence that we simply must draft Zac Fisher. I know he did more for us than Brander did where he was but all the same, different types seem to get treated differently when they don't tun out to be the players we hoped/thought they would be.

Getting a Ben McKay on a decent sized contract is a great get if he stays healthy. He'd only clog their list if he can't stay on the park.

Quality KPPs get paid well and usually have a high cost. The fact that they got him without using a draft pick is a big win.

Compare this to our acquisition of Williams for example.

Brander was a list clogger at the eagles who went on to be a list clogger at the giants before being delisted.

In between many thought that he should be our list clogger

Austin works quietly and tries to subtly improve areas that we have weaknesses in (e.g. Acres, Hollands, Cerra, Saad) . Helped by some of SOS 's better decisions our list management team have seen us go from 13th to 9th to 3rd in the last three years.

I'm happy to continue to back them in.

Austin has also said they are open to anything that might happen. You never know
Exactly and Austin should be opportunistic it would be negligent otherwise, its early yet, just getting a little fidgety.
I'd have a go at snaring Ginnivan at 185/80kg for low price, talented and fairly durable we must take advantage of having quite exceptional tall forwards in Charlie and Harry, this is rare and a clear advantage, some magic at their feet would make a difference. Motlop & Durdin are talented but still young and inexperienced, Owies is Ok not convinced long term.

I remember the few but not the many.

North now have 2, 3, 14 and 20. Surely, the Blues are trying to get some sort of upgrade with Fisher deal?

Pick 16 for 14 and 42?
Have you got this the other way round? Doesn't it make more sense to be Pick 14 for 16 + 42? I'm a few pages behind so sorry if someone else has pointed it out already.

Our first pick as it currently stands is Pick 17 and then our next is Pick 69. Norf have Pick 15 and Pick 44.

I honestly couldn't care less that Ben McKay is heading off to *, it's the compo pick that Norf will receive.

These compo picks are totally flawed as is the system.

Needs a total overhaul!
