They will go and get Reid, who is pretty special.

Be interesting. I wouldn't. I saw Reid live when playing for Blues Reserves. Very good but I wouldn't rate him above Duursma

Personally I would take Duursma & McKercher or Watson over just Reid. Add those two to Wardlaw Sheezel etc and that is a gun midfiled for the next decade. Not including LDU Simpkin Phillips Thomas

That is an amazing group with Zurharr & Larkey up forward. It's like GWS all over again

I'd rather add quality using 3 players picked in the teens/twenties rather than 1 top ten player

If our list was developing I might agree. Given where we are I don't. The Top 10 is where you get the stars that step straight in

Then we add Hollands, another pick and some smart mature players like last year. IMO that's depth

Just my opinion

Kangaroo's have 2, 3, 15, 17 and 18. Bloody Hell

If they go to the draft with this added to the young talent they have it's a whole of club changer.

We've seen first hand that bringing in a stack of young, high draft picks doesn't necessarily mean you bounce back quickly - or even slowly. A lot of pressure on North now to get this draft right, and by all reports it's not an easy draft to do that. If they get the wrong players, or fudge their development, or fail to build a strong competitive culture early, this could easily represent a massive false dawn for them.

“To have two selections inside the top 25 of the draft as it currently stands gives us a number of options as we work through the remainder of the trade period and into the national draft,” Austin said.
To me this is a very here nor there comment.

If one of the picks was pick 30, he could the same thing

Im not across the talent in the draft but my general understanding is that it's pots luck after the top 10.

To validate these picks I'd like to see them contribute to an upgrade some how

I reckon the club recruitment team is actually across the talent
I'm sure they are which is why i said I have no knowledge outside what I've read

Generally when you have no standouts outside the early picks, you are hoping your pick turns into a player.

I'd prefer to have better odds and trade up if plausible. It just seems logical.

The one standout difference for me when it comes to Austin vs SOS drafting;

Austin always picks smalls and mids who are tough and can tackle.

What,he picks players to win finals.Sos can gagf.Austin will shape this team to win a flag nothing surer.

Sps/Dow/Fish/Setterfield/Lob all slight bodies players all gone.

Your 100% correct.

I see Austin as the type of List Manager that is about relationships with other clubs and improving our list over time, not in one hit. Sometimes you take a little less to win later and sometimes it's one little step back to go forward on another deal. He did an awesome job last year and I expect the same this year. Bigger picture
Beatson complimented rawlings in dealing with north and then made a comment about how important it is to do fair trades is you want stay successful in this game.

Wonder who is was having a go at ....mmmm

They have the mature talent around them plus Clarkson

Cats rejecting pick 24 for Esava... Mackie is seriously close to surpassing the great Dodo for being the biggest campaigner out there
Was a bit of a figjam as a player. Could play but wanted everyone to know that he could.

I wouldn't have picked him as a potential list manager but (supposedly) smarter minds than me made the decision to give him the job.

Could we have played hard ball and kept 17 and just do it for 25??
Possibly, but the upside seems minor, and the fact we didn't bother probably says more about the draft itself. Our recruiters clearly aren't losing sleep over going from 17 to 21 in this draft.

We either move the 25 on for Hollands, or have two swings at it in the mid-range rather than one. I'm happy either way tbh.

I reckon the club recruitment team is actually across the talent
For sure. Commentators saying throw a blanket over 11-30 prospects, but no doubt there are some that our team is especially keen on and rate highly. And by now they would have some idea of how much interest they have from other teams.

No issue with the Fisher trade, Austin doing his job of improving our list.

Mackie has the prerequisite to join Dodoro, Silvagni and Bell......a ginormous "look at me" ego.
