from a non biased eagles supporter.

maguire is much much better than rivers. rivers doesnt play CHB proper, he sort of zones off alot more. maguire plays his man, and gets the footy.

i would back maguire to shut down any tall forward better than rivers.

Thornton gets the best forward each week, no ifs no buts. Rivers doesn't. That job goes to Nicholson. Maguire is a better player than Rivers IMO, sure Rivers can play but one-on-one I'd take Maguire over Rivers.

However, to be honest, as they're all 21 or under, then I'd say in a few years time the AA backline might look like

B - xxx, Thornton, xxx
HB - Rivers, Maguire, xxx

They are the best 3 key defenders in the comp under the age of 22 who would be one of the first 5 picked each week for their respective sides.

And how many games did Lockett miss with injury and suspension?

Whilst players can't help injury, they can certainly avoid suspension if they play fairly.

Dunstall was by far a fairer player than Lockett, and therefore Lockett should receive no sympathy/favours when being compared to Dunstall because he missed games due to suspension.

i admit every club has a player that the other 15 hate, but the supporters of that particular club love.

for instance at essendon thier fans love andrew welsh but i hate the guy with a passion. similarly a lot of people dislike michael osborne from hawthorn but he's one of my favourite players.

welsh will be a real top line defender if he isnt already classified as one

Seven of those blokes are already 'top liners.'

Judd, Hasleby, Brown, Fevola, Goodes, Pavlich and Riewoldt.

Well obviously they still will be in the future then....... as none of them are older than 23, and not one of them have reached their full potential yet. :)

Dunno if he's been mentioned, but young Brett Ebert from Port looks a likely. Hadn't seen alot of him until today. Beautiful thumping kick, is quick, and has good goal awareness. Good pick up by the Power.

The stats suggest that you are the fool.;)

I would be thinking BUMPS and PUNCHING the ball away would have maguire quite ahead. Those stats are even but what are the CONTESTED MARKS??

Show us some real stats these are midfielder stats.

I'd actually say he lacks a yard of pace, myself. Only other weakness is a lack of size, but yes, will be an excellent AFL footballer.

Unlike many kids, his skills are great and he knows how to find the footy.

maquire is a more man on man CHB than rivers for sure

just because rivers zones off more that doesnt mean he doesnt play CHB properly, he just plays it differently to maquire.

also rivers is very rarly beaten in the air....nearly always finds a way to spoil it

Maguire vs Rivers

I saw both players today, and after earlier reading this thread I paid particular attention. Although one was playing against Brisbane and the other against Carlton, I thought Maguire was much better.
Having said that though, McPharlin's 10x better than both of them if we're talking about the best young CHB.
